They decided to installs GameGuard on your HDD. So, unless I decide to shell out money for a separate gaming rig or waste my time partitioning my HDD; I'm not going to pay for this crap. Play a role! Shadowclan |

No cuz i wont buy it. You can have ppl watching what u google and what u watch on youtube. Maybe that is cool if your a Chinaman, but it's not cool if you live in a "free country". Play a role! Shadowclan |

You win some and you lose some. Many users complain of how many cheaters/bots are in any MMO game. This could be there way of increasing GameGuard security to prevent cheats/bots/hacks to bypass it. |

I searched the GD for rootkit and nothing came up, sorry. But, I'll bring it up again because people should know when they are treated like criminals for no other reason then buying a game. Play a role! Shadowclan |

Hardly a cause for real concern, many MMO's use Gameguard. Just because it operates similarly to a rootkit doesn't mean that it will cause problems on your machine. If it did, then major companies such as NCSoft wouldn't use it.
Edit: And by the way, even in a free country there are rules. You aren't being treated like a criminal when precautionary measures are taken to reduce the ability to cheat. Honestly, if you are so upset about this, I am glad you aren't getting the game because I want everyone to cooperate with Aion's rules. Hacking in a pvp game = not fun f or the nonhackers. |

What Gameguard does is monitors your entire memory range to scan for cheats and terminate any application that is in their database as a cheat. They used to have a lot of problems with compatibility with other programs but most of that is fixed. If you are worried about invasions of privacy I would be more concerned with Blizzard's Warden than GG.

Rootkit, Gameguard, Firewall, Anti-virus, Virus, how they work and how to configure them. Might want to read it over somewhere online. If this is troll attempt, then pretend I did not say anything, since it is meaningless. My rig can run any game with Gameguard and still does fine, in fact my asshat friend is playing on my OBT account because he did not bother to learn how to setup his rig properly. Which is severely cutting into my OBT time for the past 8 or 9 hours. I've lost track. Sorry to have lost you in Aion, good bye (AOL voice). |

Rootkit stays in memory from boot to shutdown... GG stays only when you actually run the game. It's like a temp parental lock for the game, not a 24/7 CCTV watcher :D |

Are you kidding me? Are people really that paranoid??? For the Templars... |

I'm no hacker I promise you. In fact a guild I belong to forbids such acts. I just think its as wrong to assume everyone is a criminal. And if a ever decided that the game was not worth playing it is a pain to uninstall the rootkit, and I'm not that tech savvy, forget about the majority of people who don't even realize what GameGuard is. Well the people who don't know would never even notice the DLL that stays behind and does nothing when the game isn't running, so they probably wouldn't mind.

Yeah, people who doesn't actually read up in detail about Gameguard and rootkit seem to think they are equal to each other. Gameguard only use the method SIMILAR to rootkit to hide the processes. Actual rootkit is aiming to take over the computer, while Gameguard is active while gaming to prevent use of certain programs and hacks. Even though people already learned how to hack it to remove or disable it in order to bot since GG actually get in the way when it is active. Gameguard does still have useless left over files embeded somewhere when uninstalled, but those are inactive and does nothing except existing. Which for some can be an eyesore I suppose. I do think Gameguard need to come out with an super easy patch or interface for people to use, I already configed my rig to not be affected by GG (which I owe my error less OBT to). However, those without much information on the matter or simply too lazy need a better way it seems. Even I feel lazy at times. |
