Does anyone know if there are higher resolution textures in the box version ?
The ground textures are just awful and very little flora and grass etc ( at least in starting areas ). It is turning me off to the game a bit.
Also, not seein much by the way of environment shadows either...
hrrm..

I agree with the terrain textures not being so great. I found myself re-checking the video options 2x times already because i thought that for a reason the settings weren't on max anymore. *edit: I just checked some screenshots i made. On all the screens, so to say "static", the game looks very good and gives a great impression...but actually in game and in motion, somehow it lacks a bit i think. I'm nNot shure if what i just wrote makes any sense..but it's also 3 in the morning here. |

I haven't seen everywhere, but only some areas wil have slightly better ground texture. If you played Asmodian, the chance of you seeing alot of grass would be... low. Well, if graphic textures makes the game what it is, I wouldn't have played quite a large number of games. I think what you were talking about are more along the lines of realistic ground? I mean, I don't think Aion really took that realism approach since the day it was designed. If it was designed for realism, the character mesh would have been simiulating real skin and pores and blemish. Weapon and armor would look quite different, maybe a bit wrinklier, a bit rustier, dirtier looking, etc. Basically, I am not sure Aion's graphic design was meant to give very realistic high def. grounds to begin with.
Basically, I am not sure Aion's graphic design was meant to give very realistic high def. grounds to begin with.
They where. Yes some of the ground textures are very fugly. They where high/normal resolution once but for some reason the reduced them by like 1/5 of their normal size. Mainly rock textures. There are some custom patches that patrially resize them but ibviously they are not allowed officially. It seem like they did that for stability issiues. They COULD look fine wihtout any real work just a few changes if they want to. I just hope they will increase them again in the future and revamp the world similar to Lineage Updates. Nielsen game ratings - Jan 2012 Top-Games: World of Warcraft played 2x more than LOL; WoW played 6 times more than Aion |

I believe in the process trying to stabilized the servers during the open beta some of the quick fixes where to nuke the ground textures and such. I say this b/c in the closed beta the ground looked more than fine to me. A matter of fact they were awesome. Veritas Vos Liberabit- The truth will set you free. |

I only played one CBT weekend and that was Elyos. I'm somewhat disappointed that the Asmodian side is really pretty. I thought it was going to be dark and gloomy. Not a gamebreaker, but a disappointment. WoW is the new MUD. |

LOL I would have to agree the game is a bit too cutsy, although I think the Mau look pretty cool. Yeah the ground textures are not the greatest in this game. I think they are trying to compromise in order to get the huge rvr battles going at a reasonable frame rate. |

What turned me off from Aion within the first hour of playing it like a month ago was, The terrain looking worse than WoW's, the childish pokemon looking monsters, and the ground textures being so awful.. What I did like was the combat system and player models. I really hope they at least fix the ground textures and tune up the terrain graphics such as the trees and structures I've seen so far.. I thought this game was supposed to look gorgeous. So far it looks half gorgeous and half sloppy. Which is a turn off for me. Rallithon Oakthornn |

Actually I didn't notice real changes from CB to OB, I am actually looking at the ground right now, and they look pretty much the same as CB. I mean as far as Veteron area's grounds goes at least, if you know an area where it is easier to compare let me know, this is rather interesting. It is everything all turn all the way up on my computer BTW. |

Glad to hear this was present at one point. LOTRO beta was similar ( not sure if it was closed or open ) but we started with low rez textures for terrain. Hopefully they do what lotro did and make them downloadable at release ( or maybe available on the media )

The funny thing about this experience is that the graphics reminded me of Wow so much, i started to think back how cohesive and wonderful the art was ( although styled ). It hit me so much so i almost went back to start a new wow character haha.. Going to try to login again and see if i can play through it and get past the "ground" issue. The funny thing i also noticed is alot of the videos / screens and such are at far distance. If you look far away at mountains and such, it does look great. It just fails close up... Some of the rock textures looked like something really really old. Sad thing is my puter is running it way over 60fps and being a new game would love to see more eye candy options, like flora / grass etc. -allegira |
