I support both themepark and sandbox MMOs. I'm playing the game of real life, internet, and debating on forums. hehehe Seriously though I'm playing Oblivion, Neverwinter Nights 2, and Xbox360 games like Viking: Battle for Asgrad while waiting. I'm waiting for a time when I can feel more free in pursuing exploration both in group and solo. When min/maxers aren't making me feel oppressed in that manner. I want exploration king again. Ask not, "How quickly can you reach this objective?/Do you know the area?" but instead ask, "Do you feel like exploring this area?"/"When do you feel like exploring this area?" Oblivion, Morrowind, Fable 2, Neverwinter Nights 2 toolset, Guild Wars, and WoW occasionally. I play most of my sandbox games on my Xbox 360 and I haven't played a sandbox MMO I've liked since Star Wars Galaxies.
The truth is I'm not really interested in sandbox MMOs anymore. Games like Darkfall, Mortal Online, and Shadowbane(previously) are too hardcore PvP oriented for me to enjoy long-term. I'd much rather play a sandbox game that's more of a cross between a virtual world like Second Life and casual pve, crafting, city-building, and a friendly, roleplay-oriented community like SWG had. |

I am playing Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. While not technically a sand box, it has the best class diversity and exploration environment of any other MMO I have played. And with three spheres of content (adventuring, crafting, diplomacy), there is more than enough to keep one entertained for at least a year or two. |

Not subbed to any MMO right now, nothing on the horizon for my sandbox taste in the MMORPG genre for me. Though I love many of hte feature's EVE has but for me it aint a sandbox, but a game that has many sandbox type of feature's. I loved SWG but also with that game it had many sandbox aspects but still was not really a sandbox. If I had a PS3 I would play LittleBigPlanet, that's to me a sandbox game. Overall get my sandbox fix more from games that offer things that fit well in a sandbox scene, but have not seen a sandbox in the way I feel sandbox games could be, other then games offering sandbox like feature's, as a example I love the freedom in games like GTA4/Fallout3/SaintRow2 and the like. A sandbox game to me is where you create allot more then only a character and not limited towards a almost 80% combat game. And like I said there are some games I consider to have feature's that fit well in the sandbox catergory, but still they arn't to me, which is my personal view on how I see it which is does not have to be a fact for everyone but pure my own opinion. ------------------------------------------------------------ |

EVE. Looking forward to Aion tomorrow, but it's not a sandbox so I expect to be disappointed, if that makes any sense.

I played darkfall for about 2 days. I was disappointed. I am playing EVE mostly. I'm looking forward to Mortal online. |

EVE Online, this game just has so many paths to explore it blows my mind. Its all about setting your own goals and working to achieve them whether its manufacturing, trading, scavanging, PvPing, mining, mission running, heading a corporation your imagination is the only limit. So the scope of EVE keeps me playing unlike Darkfall that had a much more limited scope and all I saw myself doing was grind grind grind or cheat cheat cheat to keep up with others to be effective in battle, shame really. I also play DDO and I'm going to try Aion but in my mind a expansive sandbox is a much better concept than a thempark game though I enjoy them to.

Im in CBT for Dawntide, and having fun with it. I played DAarkfall for a little while after release, and got bored with it. I'm doing almost pure crafting in Dawntide right now, and having fun doing it, I've never really been one for crafting either. |

I wanted to try a sandbox type game but they all seem to be either pvp orientated(Darkfall,FE) or terrible graphics(wurm,UO) I know EVE is probably the most famous sandbox but I don't really dig the whole spaceship thing. But obviously those are just the 4 or 5 I know about. Surely there are other sandbox games out there? Can someone list a few more please? |

I would like to reiterate that Fallen Earth is not a sandbox. It just has the part of sandboxes in which you have to "Create your own fun" because it just isn't there naturally.
Saga of Ryzom is hands down the best sandbox I have played. If some company took it and changed the stylized graffics I'd so be there. |

Extensive as in, the game is crafting centric? Yes. Extensive as in you have any control of the outcome? No. Standard gather materials, combine, get product. It does have a very large variety of materials that are required though. |

Ryzom is a great game and Pve centric which is rare in a sandbox game. Op, Right now I'm playing UO. Yep, I know it's old. With the last expansion this game is in the best shape its been in for quite sometime. Looks like I'll be subbing to three mmos until DF and FE work out the kinks and MO,ER release. UO, EvE, Ryzom, DF, FE and two more games on the horizon as a sandbox fan I'm very excited. PLaying: EvE, Ryzom Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum |

At the moment I'm playing Eve. Not a fan of fantasy really but I do miss my "body" in Eve. Looking forward to the walking around stations expansion (yea I know eta = who knows when) Also a big Superhero fan was playing Champions online for open beta and pre-start up to last weekend. but my retail copy hasn't arrived yet so I'm having withdrawl symptoms there. (I know it's not really sandbox but I do like to have lots of options)
As for up coming games. Unfortunatly SWG killed the SW fan within me so I'm actually planning on steering well clear of that one. although I'm looking forward to Star trek online and Jump Gate Evolution. Few old guildies in Mortal Online atm too and although I'm not a huge fantasy fan I may sign up if the reports are good. (tried Darkfall but it left a bad taste behind.) |
