The grass is always greener the last place you pooped. |
Now that warhammer is dead (and if you argue that it is not dead, you must concede that it is lying in a gutter bleeding to death), do you think we can get Mythic to develop DAOC2? Dark Age of Camelot was one of the best MMO's i have ever played, but the only game i have ever seen ruined with a single ex-pac. Lets see DAOC2 with no ex-pacs !!

Not very likely. See, Mythic is now part of EA. EA will dictate what they do, and EA decided to cannibalize the company in order to move their experienced staff to Bioware for The Old Republic. EA doesnt give second chances to failures, and Mythic is no longer able/in a position to independantly seek investment and support for a new game. WAR was their shot. They missed it. Unless some phenomenally talented and utterly convincing designer leftover in the staff of Mythic that isnt yet integrated into ToR is able to convince EA that building on the DAOC name with a new, casual-friendly, cheap, fast, easy concept with half a team is doable. But do you really think that sort of game is DAOC 2 ? See, the problem is for niche products (and DAOC 2 would be one if it wishes to follow DAOC in spirit) is that they only really get money if the guy with the fat bank account trusts you. WAR is a great example of a game that has probably destroyed any kind of trust in Mythics abilities to make a good game. Thus, at best, they ll get stuck with a "sure thing" next ... but its actually better business to just minimize losses and use their assets somewhere else. Sad, but I honestly dont think DAOC 2 by Mythic would have a shot at glory anyways. |

I doubt we'll ever see DAOC2 because if WAR goes down the drain I think that'll be the end of Mythic as a company.
Edit:They seem to be some rumours going around that the EU DAOC servers may be shut down in the near future. |

EA/Mythic been milking WAR for 4 months now, they fired just about every CSR, dev force is gone, gee I wonder if they have more cheap 3D artist than programmers at this point in time. Mythic is dead. RIP |

Honestly? I think Warhammer online was a sequal to DAOC. Obviously not in the sense of lore, setting and other things like that but in terms of content, gameplay offering and more. I think this was the next gen DAOC just with a different coat of paint. thats my opinion. |

war has an expansion in the works, its been patched frequently, many ppl, myself included still sub to it. I dont understand how u can conclud its dead. Its certainly struggling however ill grant you that.
But war isnt likely to be truly going anywhere anytime soon. |

If they made such a horrible Warhammer, which they did, why would I want them making anything at all ? |

You know it doesn't have to be Mythic, any compent developer could create a true sucessor to DAoC. The lore was borrowed from other legends. True 3 realm RvR in a fantasy setting, how hard can it be? |

Hopefully with the current servers merges things will start to go up from here. Populations is very important to this game, once the servers start to flourish, we may yet see a slow revival by War...

I've been playing War from release and yes its dieing whatever you think.
But funny enough ive been playing DOAC for the last week on trial, i was playing EQ1 for nearly 8 yrs during the time when DOAC was at its peak and have to say its still a damn good game, me and my best friend just laugh at how MMOs have just completly regressed. We had more fun running away from mobs cause we were so scared of dieing than anytime in War or any other game since EQ/SWG.
What has happened, its almost sad ?

Agree, especially the mobs in War. Never see a more retard version. Might as well commit suicide when they see me coming. Will game workshop take back their ip?

this, certainly my server has been banging as of late, lots of rvr and constant sc pops.
I find this thread somewhat presumptious, If youve moved on from war because your not enjoying it, thats fine. But to me its been the most fun ive had in any mmo ive played. Im not ready to move on :P , bc i still enjoy the game.

Originally posted by Illthala Pay attention to what's happening. Servers are almost gone. Of course the few still playing (as I am) are concentrated on the few servers which remain. You are deluding yourself if you think the game isn't dying. You are going to find yourself forced to 'move on' whether you want to or not.

The problem is that the pre-wow MMO fans are now a niche group. Any of the games we enjoyed pre-wow, EQ, DAOC, UO, FFXI, SWG(pre-NGE) are not the norm anymore. Devs veiw us as a small group, they dont want to invest a lot of cash to target us. They want the big bucks so they target the post-wow crowd. As a true MMO fan it sux, but from a buisness point of veiw its very understandable. Elder scrolls online: Voice your concerns here :http://www.zenimax.com/contact.php |
