I am an ex-WoW player and Retirie of LOTRO.
I want to know how this game is.

Is it worth the monthly fee?

If I like WoW and such will I enjoy this?

Does it require a powerful PC? I consider my PC semi-Powerful though I'm thinking of upgrading it.

Hows the community and economy? Are players helpful,Ect?

The game will make use of a high end system, but should run for you if you could run LoTRO.

Is it worth the monthly fee? It depends on what you are looking for. There are plenty of things to do in EQ2, on top of questing.

The community seemed helpful to me and the economy never felt like anything was too far out of reach.

If you want a game that has plenty of options to keep you with content even past top level, EQ2 will be good for you. They are about to add a system where you can set your level lower so you can gain XP from lower quests/dungeons.

There are heritage quests, which are throwbacks to EQ1 with rewards being items from EQ1 that you can display in your house.

There are a ton of titles you can earn.

Crafting is massive, lots of recipies and crafting is a mini-game.

Housing has an insane amount of options.

You can do lore and legend quests which teach your character about an enemy type and allow you a spell/skill that does extra damage to that type.

You can learn languages of enemies by studying items they drop.

You can do writs for a city to raise your (and your guilds) experience.

There are downsides to EQ2. Most agree armor is bland and ugly, all the choices of what to do can be overwhelming at first, the complexity of the game can be hard to pick up, almost too many classes.

I'm sure I'm forgetting plenty, but it's late and I'm tired. I would certainly recommend an EQ2 trial to someone who has never played, I'd say it's worth looking at.

I agree with skeaser for the most part.  As far as the armor in concerned, as you level up it actually looks better than the random stuff you get in a game like WoW (sorry, I just dont like giant purple shoulder armor that hovers over your shoulders).  You have an appearance tab at level 20 that lets you look however you want.  If you actually crank up the textures, you will see that the armor is very detailed.  Now at higher levels, I do think the gear sets in EQ2 could look a lot better.

To add to the conversation:

EQ2 has a very unique mentoring system that allows higher levels to mentor down to your level and increase your XP while allowing the person that is mentoring to gain experience and possibly go through parts of the game they haven't played yet.  This is huge, and I have yet so see something match this in any other game.  WoW-you just get pay a high level to run you through an instance while you loot...boring IMO.

EQ2 has a broker system where you just put your items up for sale for set price, not an auction.  I prefer this over an AH, although I can see where the AH has it's perks.

One perk for me is that you can move your character in mid air after you jump.  LOTRO does this too, but WoW doesn't and it's just a personal preference of mine.

Storage isn't an issue like it is in LOTRO.  If you're a pack rat, you will still be OK in EQ2.

I have to say the housing system/guild hall system is by far the best in any game.  (especially considering the LOTRO community doesnt really take advantage of the neighborhood system it has, even on the most populated RP server)

Community in EQ2 is mature and helpful.  Of course we all know the majority of WoW is the polar opposite, and LOTRO is getting worse as time goes on (although good Kins are still abundant in LOTRO).

Crafting is actually engaging.  This is good for me because sometimes I don't want to go kill stuff, but at the same time I sitll want be engaged.  In WoW, you just get materials and click a button.  In LOTRO it's a little better, but you essentially the same.

The amount of content in EQ2 is amazing.  Norrath is by far the most "mystical" and the best "fantasy" world you can experience today.

Grouping in EQ2 is action packed and very fun.  I can say the same for WoW and LOTRO, but EQ2 is number one in the category IMO, although I'm not sure exactly why...it just is.

The only bad things I can say about EQ2 is that the community is slowly getting smaller as the game gets older.  With that being said, you can still find plenty of helpful, dedicated guilds in this game.  Just like EQ1, if you really enjoy EQ2, you will still be able to play it with other people for years to come.  Also, the game is heavily zone/instanced based.  This bothers some people but not me.

I've gone through the loop of mmo's and I keep coming back to this one. This game is excellent and deserves to be played. Top notch PVE experience. Whatever you do , don't waste your money on Aion it's korean based wow trash. I managed to blow 75 bucks on it and wasted every penny of it.

Current MMO: EQ2/Rift
Waiting for: FF14(to be good)
