Whether you like Aion or not i dont think anyone who played in CB can deny that the game is very polished and looks and runs very well. Hopefully other devs are paying attention. Does anyone think it will push companies to stop releasing half finished and buggy games?

There's already been a game with much polish and high standards on the market for almost 5 years now, yet we're still getting releases like Darkfall. Don't get your hopes too high.

I think you aren't interpreting the data correctly. It's an import. It was already a full fledged game and they just westernized it.

So really, it's not some great feat.

^^This^^

The game has already been through lengthy development and alpha/beta stages, and it had been live in Asia for several months before the close beta for the Western localization even started... Granted though, the game is in great shape, but it's not like it hasn't had more than enough time to get to this stage in development.

Still though, (if) it holds its subscription numbers here in the west, this could send a good message to other devs. Get your game out in a polished quality, and if its not crap it might just be a success (depending on how you define success ofc)

But the game your speaking of wasnt so poished when it released. And yes i know its been out in Asia for nearly a year my point  was that im hoping others will try and release poished games instead of broken and buggy messes. Im not going to play Aion but do appreciate the quality of the game.

Actuallyyyyyy, for fear that I might sound like an Aion Fanboy. I'll just say that the Korean CB's and launch were pretty polished, well compared to AoC and WAR it was very polished.

AoC and War have been out longer than Aion in the east, and they are no where near as polished as Aion. I hope it does succeed and kills War And AoC, that will send the message the OP is talking about.

I doubt it.  LotR had a rather impressive launch in comparison to most other games.  As you can see since then other companies still succeed in coming up with some spectacularly shitty launches.

1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Yes your right, funny i would forget about the LOTRO launch as its the game i play most of the time. Oh well i guess my system of waiting a few months for them to iron out the bugs is a good one to continue with. I do the same with single player PC games as well.

I would hope it would send a message out to devs, but you would think they knew what should be the standard by now.  Releasing a polished game should have been the standard for all of them since inception.  This genre is hurting.  It seems most of these companies are only looking for fast money, not putting out quality games.

In the theatre world we call this "Out of Town Tryouts"

If that's what it takes to get a polished game released-do it!

I really don't think you want to promote MMOs being developed in Asia or other countries. Even with its westernization it still has a distinct style.

Quite honestly WAR performed flawlessly for my from very early beta. Of course everyone's mileage may vary.

---

I honestly think that MMOs will release in a polished state when they become standard on consoles. I don't think people on consoles will put up with as much crud as PC users do.

If the fanboys and suckers would stop buying CEs and lifetime subs for game which haven't even released yet, the companies would be a little more careful to release quality games.

MMO players seem to be an incredibly gullible lot.

This kind of discrimination for asian games always comes from an american, its fantastic... Then you ppl wonder why the entire world despises you as a people, because even if most americans are not like this, this are the type of attitudes we take as examples

Not exactly discrimination. The quality of the majority of games coming from Asia is poor to say the least. There is also a large cultural divide on how MMOs should be designed, played, and payed for.

I can also safely say that the quality of MMO's made in the US is poor, really really poor, and I dare you to present me a US made game, except for WoW, thats had some decent success according to todays standards. (10 years ago 50k subs were a success)

All in all, i can safely assume that there are more players worldwide playing asian games than american nowadays.

There where plenty of articles and podcasts/ect about how polished aion was even back when it was in the korean "Closed beta". So they've taken a polished game and polished/expanded it further in the last year.

But almost anyone will tell you, aions "initial" release was a much more polished game than WoW was when it first launched. The only in your face downturn to aion in it's current state is how small the world seems.

I thought after anarchy online released that companies would know how detrimental it is to release an unfinished game... i thought wrong.

Theres nothing racist about it.  Why shouldnt games made in asia have a distinct asian style to them?  You wouldnt want every game to have this distinction though, or any one style for that matter, it would lessen diversity in the game market.
