I just got my open beta key from Fileplanet. When I used it to make an account over at NCSoft's website, it told me that I had just made a beta account for the European beta. I live in Canada. Seemed like a "wtf" moment for me.

Anyone else have this issue?

That's great! i live in Hungary (Central Europe)

And File Planet told me the next: "Your access to the closed beta event has been denied due to Country restrictions."

Honestly, though, I don't care if it is a North American or European beta that I got, as long as it works. I'm concerned that they might block my IP from playing the Euro beta...plus, I assume that I have to download a new client?

I am just assuming that everyone is getting the same message/europe message that we are.  Probably just an error on fileplanet's end of things.  I'd be surprised if we wouldn't be on the NA open beta server on Sunday.  Also you will need the 1.5 client so not sure what you have currently.

I've got the 1.5 client, which I am pretty sure is the NA version... but I have assumed that, like most MMOs, the servers require their respective NA or Euro-specific clients.

Same client for both territories.  Just change the setting in the launcher.  And restart the launcher if its trying to install into a folder with the wrong name (wont make a difference though - purely cosmetic)

Thanks for that info. Good to know that I won't have to download another 9 GB client!

After checking Twitter (yeah, I know) a bit, it looks like this beta key issue is affecting others as well. I wonder how this weird little mix up happened? :P

An update:

Those of you who received a European beta key, go back to Fileplanet and request another key. You should receive a new, North American beta key. This just worked for me.

Yeah, that's pretty much what happened, it seems.

So american users can get european keys, but europeans can't visit the site "has been denied due to country restrictions" for a key. lol, thats fucked up.

I just upgraded my existing fileplanet account in order to get a Aion OB key. I made the payment with paypal. Now it says it will renew the subscription automaticly? WTF!? And in order to stop this, I have to cancel. But I read somewhere I will lose my  fileplanet points if I cancel. Mmh. My English isn't good, so they aren't being clear enough. Seems unprofessional.

 If any NA people accidentally got a EU key, would you be kind enough to pass it over to me? I've been trying Fileplanet all day (it's 2:30AM and the site's still not letting me get an EU key) and I'd be very appreciative for the chance to play.

Apologies for "begging" I just usually have poor luck when it comes to getting keys to games I'm eagerly anticipating and I thought I'd at least not let these keys go to waste

I could use an EU beta key too if someone else from NA got both keys and don't need the EU one :)

  I am in the UK but have not yet received an open beta key, GAME.CO.UK has failed to send me any keys at all for preordering and gamespot wont let me in as I am in the EU.

If anyone has a spare key for the EU version feel free to pass it my way.

I've also got two keys (one for EU, one for NA).  I was surprised I was able to re-request a key with the same FP login after I got the EU one.  I thought the open beta was NA only?

Anyway, I already registered the key with NCSoft.  I then made another NCSoft account (different email addy) and used the second key.  This one just said Aion beta (instead of Aion EU closed beta).
