As the title says! Cryptic did a fantastic patch today in wich they swing the nerfbat hefty lef and right without testing it. So headstart people are completely gimped. No respecs are given. Forced to reroll. lol. Forums are in rage and ingame it's a ragefest as well! Good move Cryptic. And the retail people haven't even entered the game yet. Will be fun for them, that in one and half hour they enter the game, just to see all the outrage of angry people in ingame chat. Seems Mr. Roper hasn't learned a single bit from Hellgate London. |

A huge nerf without respecs even available? You would have thought they would wait until they put full respecs into their store before the big nerfs came in. I would also question why this "nerf" didn't come in during the beta instead of at release...? Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic |

Isn't the game still in beta? So why are people complaining that their characters got the nerf bat, it's a setup for testing not for playing the game and building up your character. The exact point of beta is to find problems, and balance issues are one of them. But judging from the posts that have been made since open beta started, no one that is in open beta understands the word beta.
Now if it was after release then there'd be something to complain about, but balance being changed while in beta is nothing. And it also means it's easy to iron out the adjustments made. |

If these kind of things bother you, never pre-order and only play mmo's that are at least 6 months old AND have a free trial. |

This is the way cryptic operates.. they always overcorrect when they make changes.. its how they "balance". They'll probably fix it, probably by the end of the week.. meanwhile... all the new players get to crash and burn and wonder what the deal is. It happened many times during the testing process... |

All I know is from playing what little I have played of it they need to fix how powers work big time, there is a huge discrepancy between CC and dmg in game for pvp. I mean I spend half the pvp fights rooted, slowed, or just pinned down. When I do get loose I feel like a god as I put people down left and right. Yet in game against npcs I get my ass handed to me regularly, so they need to unnerf pve and work out the pvp stuff. As is the game needs a good bit more work done to make it enjoyable. |

Nerf was needed I was beating up whole zones! I could stand with a telekentic block and regen health block all attacks and then kill a line of at least 30 mobs most higher villain mobs too lol was awesome and that was my squishy, but not realistic even for a superhero game. Im glad they nerfed it. I cant stop playing got like 4 character going. |

While it is possible they over corrected, the complaints that seem to stand out are from people upset that they are going to have a harder time reaching 40 in less then a week. what I have found out from other games is, once the first start people hit the top level then they compalin how easy it was to get there. All in hopes of preventing others from doing the same thing. then they gloat on the boards on how great they are and complain that there is nothing to do and how the developers need to put in more stuff just for them. Then they come to forums like this to bash the game and say "Glad I took monthly because the game is so bad and there is nothing to do". Just seems the developers got to the door before the PLers did. Perhaps now they will actually have to play for more then a week or really go and buy the game, instead of hiting max level during the grace period (Sept. 6).

Strangely enough, in CB I found it very easy to level and was able to get through content very quickly, and that IS how I feel.. I don't have any content left to play, so I didn't buy the game yet. I don't think thats entirely whats going on here though.... Cryptic didn't start actually balancing until 1 week before OB started...... balancing takes months to do correctly... and they had little to no feedback and started making wild changes all around -- even going so far as to change up the combat system slightly before OB.
SO, yeah, whats going on now is due to cryptic rushing to get things done when postponing another 2 weeks probably would have stopped the crying you're hearing now. Cryptic is the kind of company that, when they know they've screwed something up, they try and fix it.. but because this is a balance issue, trying to fix it could just make things worse. Let me know how it turns out.... I won't be in game for another few months... |

The problem with the patch is that they took away the superheroic feel of the game and degraded all their "superheroes" to people who hides in fear of adds and try and try and try to maximise a situation to survive. Not my idea of what a superhero should be about. Yes fights against super villains should be difficult, but when did spiderman have to run and hide from 3 thugs because they kicked his behind? "You are the hero our legends have foretold will save our tribe, therefore please go kill 10 pigs." |

*Shrugs* I never pay for pre-release time for no biggy to me. I've seen this happen way to many times. I'll definitely be playing CO though in 3 months. Tires blew out on my car so gota save for new ones or Id be playing now. As for all hell breaking out, duh, its a forum. Thats what they do. |

Originally posted by Horkathane Except that he's not a squishy: A melee character has a defensive passive, possibly a couple of defensive abilities, block and maybe CON superstated. A ranged character has the same defensive passive, the same defensive abilities, the same block and the same superstat options. A ranged character can also attack (at range) whilst flying, can clearly see the 'build up' icons on villians to time their blocks, can CC/'hold' attackers at range and knockback any attackers who get too close. Your squishy has a far better defence than a tank... so by nerfing the defences that both characters have, you become balanced, whilst any melee player becomes a joke... They have carefully flattened their football pitch, removing all the molehills and divots - whist ignoring that the pitch is on the side of a mountain :(. |

Sorry there was a lot of things that needed a nerf bat to it. I can still play my character. Sure I can't take on +5 level guys to me thats good. I want a little challenge. |

I do have to say one thing though. Close Combat did not need a nerf. If that got nerf then that is a problem. =) |

I logged in a while ago and didn't see a whole lot of difference. People are way overreacting to this. |
