I ran it through Word. :) It's a fundamental law of the universe that any post criticizing someone else's writing skills will contain some sort of error. Nonetheless, there's a difference between casual and occasional errors and utter and complete incomprehensibility. (I'd also like an Acronym Expander. When someone types "LFG 2DPS 4 ERG run need PDQ or DRW no TUK!", it would be nice to know what that means without having to ask in chat, especially since every game quickly evolves its own set of contradictory abbreviations.) |

As much as everyone complains about killing mobs to level, that's what makes a game a game. If it was completely about story it would get old really quickly. If you want to pass the time with a story, there are movies and books. I don't really need to sit at a virtual table and read a virtual book. If you really don't like leveling, then a game like TeamFortress2 might be to your liking. If you don't like any kind of killing, then Sims might work for you. If you just want a social game where you sit around and RP and gab then you have Second Life.
My point is, in the MMORPG genre you kill stuff to level. What we really need (apparently) is a completely new genre of game.
While you missed the point I think that I understand why you did. I have nothing against killing the critters, but the sole purpose of the action needs to go beyond "kill 10 critters". Adding any explanation to that action simply doesn't cut it; that "goal" needs to simply not exist. I have to leave in about 10 minutes so I don't have time to type up examples, but basically the activities that players engage in should never be as dull as counting to 10.. or 15.. or 20.. or whatever. edit: mmorpg.com forums failed. had to edit to fix the broken display of the sentences.
oh hai this is not a sig |

If they build it, we will come.
(is that what the OP is waiting for?) Playing polished, lag free, feature complete games is carebear. Whining about a game you hate but still play is hardcore man! |

For 15 bucks a month I want the world basically. Every time I launch a game I want the game company to send a porn star to my home. You launch a game...door bell goes off....porn star enters your home. You haven`t experienced good PVP unless you got BJed by a porn star while ganking nerds online. That would be 9th gen MMO right there.
I care about your gaming 'problems' and teenage anxieties, just not today. |

Ok, ok. How about game with no buggs and lag? Those are 2 great features yet unseen. I care about your gaming 'problems' and teenage anxieties, just not today. |

I think the trouble with making the illustrious megamo is trying to recreate the blizzard effect. that was a gargantuan effort when blizzard first did it, simply trying to imagine collating everything new, learnt, and mistaken from todays mmos and somehow learning every lesson there is to learn is just such a collosal effort, and that is why it is so common to see an mmo that fixes whatever your biggest niggle with xyz, and you think YAY! SOMEONE UNDERSTANDS! but then you realize most other portions of the game fail in the same old way (or occasionally for a new reason)
such as AoC, WAR, etc etc, they all have peaks that are amazing and true progressions of the genre, yet fail pretty badly in other seemingly previously perfected parts. Playing polished, lag free, feature complete games is carebear. Whining about a game you hate but still play is hardcore man! |

No vendors. Resource areas PvP-enforced. Mobs only drop crafting mats. Total player economy. Capturable towns and fortifications, rather than NPC-run. BALANCED faction login queues. "" Voice acting isn't an RPG element....it's just a production value." - grumpymel2 |

Originally posted by Lizard_SF Oh, I would LOVE that. I want a pre-aproved list of eligible name for characters, too. Don't get me wrong, I reallly like choosing my character names, but it would be worth sacrificing that to keep endless Legolas variants and swear names out. By crafting it. The better the mats, the better the results. Rare creatures drop the rarest mats. Of course, it depends on how important it is to the players to have elite gear. You could have player-created quests, too. A player could offer xp for bounties on certain mobs/people or for x amount of y mats. - AIs with an IQ over 0 - The first quest not being "Go and kill 5 boars (and get me their entrails)" - Stupid actions should have consequences. "Hey lets see what happens when I shoot a fireball straight up". - Team attack (stray fireballs etc) - Some realism. Roaches dropping chain mail isnt. - Meta tagging players. "Hacker, noob, scammer" - Filtering chat depending on meta tags.
Thats it for now. Yeah, Im not in a good mood today. --- |
