Most of what I am looking for is out there, just not in one game. I want agame that is a complete world where fighting isn't the only option, raiding is a fun thing to do with friends instead of being a necessity. A game where the community is a living breathing thing and not just a race to be first. A game that isn't about some mythical 'ENDgame' an MMORPG has no right having an endgame IMO A game where you can be what you want, not some pigeon holed class A game where live events and competitions are a daily occurance A game that is has real depth, not a fake storyline to compensate for a lack of depth In short.....an alternative world |

I like those ideas what about if when u made ur char instead of choosing a class u choose skill sets and type then got to name your own class i think that would be cool and as you play the game u choose whatever skills u wanna learn as u go thro it that way there would really be no classes. |

I dream of a MMO that focuses on story and does not have even a single "kill 10 whoozits" or "collect 10 whatsits" job. Oh, and World of Darkness done right (that is to say actually following the game's rules and not being like D&DLOL). ::sigh:: I dream, I dream... oh hai this is not a sig |

I would agree with this. though I'm not sure I"m looking for an alternate world. I have no problem with a game being a game. but I would prefer a far more open world than most game makers choose to make. |

You dream for now but maybe just maybe if enough ppl write in here common things over and over maybe a game designer will see this and 3-6 years from now we might be looking at a new game that's really new. |

You can do that in Ryzom (not the name your class bit) you level the skills and even build the skill you want to use. Eventually given enough levelling you can fulfill all roles. The problem with Ryzom it lacks content it is the only reason I stopped playing it. With some TLC it could have been a great game, but then so could many others lol |

As did SWG pre-CU. I'm really surprised that no other game (other than Ryzom, SWG and I suppose Eve) have tried the skill thing v the level thing. I thought it worked really well. |

As much as everyone complains about killing mobs to level, that's what makes a game a game. If it was completely about story it would get old really quickly. If you want to pass the time with a story, there are movies and books. I don't really need to sit at a virtual table and read a virtual book. If you really don't like leveling, then a game like TeamFortress2 might be to your liking. If you don't like any kind of killing, then Sims might work for you. If you just want a social game where you sit around and RP and gab then you have Second Life.
My point is, in the MMORPG genre you kill stuff to level. What we really need (apparently) is a completely new genre of game. |
