Reading through some of the Guild Wars 2 threads and especially the comments in the hype section, I've been rather disgusted...

Time after time, year after year, MMO developers have hyped up their games after previously: failing to launch their games, launching them in a terrible state, launching them without half of the promised content present, or promised - as the new kid on the block - to be the saviour of the MMO world. Each time this has happened, people have thrown their toys out of the cot over the fact that there's no hope for MMO's because of useless developers who are only in it for themselves and lack passion for their games, who are lazy, and so on and so forth.

Then we have a company like ArenaNet. Now I'm not one for giving blind praise, and obviously as you'll see from my signature I've played quite a bit of Guild Wars myself, but I'm the type of guy who believes in giving credit and placing my trust in people who have proven themselves. Whilst I may personally find Guild Wars awesome, along with many other people, I understand that yet other people did not like it.

Regardless, some of the utter hate being directed towards ArenaNet is sad, pathetic and unfair. So what if you didn't like Guild Wars? There is absolutely no denying the fact that:

1) ArenaNet dared to innovate by providing a totally different type of gameplay from the norm at the time of its release.

2) They had one of the, if not the single most flawless MMO launch ever.

3) Guild Wars is and was polished. They did not release any content in a half-finished state or suddenly remove half of the game just before launch due to it being in an unplayable/unfinishable state.

4) Yet, despite all of this, they didn't demand a monthly fee. They provided exactly what any P2P MMO provides in terms of quality without the monthly fee.

5) They have stated time and again that they will release Guild Wars 2 "when it's ready." How many major MMO's recently have done just the opposite? Age of Conan or Warhammer anyone?

Therefore, if you are one of these blind haters - whether or not you may have liked Guild Wars 1, for your own sake I suggest you research Guild Wars 2 as it is an almost completely different game. Yes, it will be persistent. No, there is not a lack of innovation - any MMORPG that doesn't have a quest system and instead invents a whole new system of its own is what I call innovative. It brings with it a host of changes that the "it's not a REAL MMO!" crowd have been demanding for ages.

In the end - if you're terribly ignorant with regards to the facts or are totally misinformed, why comment or hype it in the first place? At least spare those who actually know what's going on the torture of having to read through the masses of misinformation and just hype it a "1" in silence.

Very much agree, too many haters are trying to bring down the hype by rating it as one, whatever you rate it, it is by far the most talked about game at the moment and is by far the most looked forward too. No other game is offering the same amount of sheer polish and content as seen in the first guild wars game series.

I think they are just scared it will be amazing and pull people from the games they are playing.  I have always been in curious of people who attack games they know nothing about. ARe they being paid by other devs to hype their games? hmmm... lol

People  who know me, know I am very critical of games, I do not just " jump on board " because someone else likes something, and I  have always point out the pros and cons in games. The one issue I had with Guild wars was the lack of  things to do between guild battles and the lack of the persistant world. Then Arena Net goes and makes and new game fixing these problems .. amazing, that is actually the first time ANY developer has fixed something I asked for. Honestly, I am in awe at  how complete and polished Guild wars 1 was and their customer service was the best I have ever dealt with in the industry. I give credit where credit is due and Arena Net definately deserves the praise they are given for their work.

Seriously, though Arena Net has taken an completely new approach. They are not out saying this is going to be the best game ever!  No, they are  too busy focused on their game, the only thing I have heard them say in that regards is they are focused on making the best game they can make based on their player feedback. That in itself, the developers mindset on this, is why they are  amazing.

 So many of the other devlopers have not figured out this very simple thing, to put the players first. That alone is groundbreaking  in this industry. I guess so many mmorpg players these days are so used to being treated like poo, they don;t know what to do with real quality customer service. Arena Net has proven they put their customers first, and if you have an issue with their game, tell them directly, they are different, they actually listen to their players.

I have nothing but good to say about Arena Net and the quality of their products. Sure, there is content I would like to be in a game that isn't being met by ANY game on the market, but this is the first I have encountered that weighs that , and does their best to come through with amazing quality. They treat their customers with respect, and do the best they can. I can't ask for more than that.

It was funny, I had all these ideas I would have liked to see in Guild wars2, but when I saw the direction they decided to take with it.. I am seriously thinking this is going to be better than I could have imagined. I cannot wait to try the event system, the  world vs world battle for resources, the new races.. this is definately going to be something worth the wait. The more I hear about what they are doing the more I am dying to play this game!! I gues it is probably a good thing they have been keeping things quiet, they didn;t want people busting down their doors and trampling them like those crazy people on black Friday.

also the game is not *f2p* as some say it is you gotta pay for a cd key retail box whatever so its not realy f2p also the game has had more content and polished then any other game ive ever played that is next to wow also its sold millions of copies so people saying its the worse and it will fail just like gw 1 are stupid/noobs and thats a fact also its the only mmo with true pvp

No no, People are naturally stupid, the internet just allows them to show the world how stupid they really are 

Anyway, nice post OP. Arenanet is probably the only MMO developer that I actually have faith in, and anyone that has seen me post knows I'm naturally a pessimistic person. But with how great Guild Wars 1 was, I have really high hopes for Guild Wars 2.

I also get the feeling that a lot of the hate is stemming from TOR fans. I think these two games will be somewhat similar and be directly competing against each other.

The fact is that a great number of people posting on this forums are just bored fanboys who dedicate their life to trash other games while defending their precious game.

The saddest part is that they are so bored of their games that they spend most of their time posting here about other games instead of actually playing.

Many people would have alot more fun if they just stop thinking about stupid comparisons and whos the best or worst company and actually played games to have fun.

I played Guild Wars for around 2 years, and just stopped because after Eye of the North I got bored since i am a PvE players.

I am sure Arenanet will launch a great game and I will certainly be among the first ones to buy it on launch

I wouldn't get too worked up about it. It seems to happen to every new (or even established) games that come up.  Another upcoming popular game that I'm looking forward to also is getting similar trolls in their forums. I think their joy in life is being an ass on internet forums.

You guys are acting no different then the people you are complaining about. You are acting like GW2 will be the greatest product of all time and are all hyping it as a 10 rating. Just like there are the people who are against all new games, there are those that are all for each new game. You guys are blinded to your own excitement of it.

Many people tried GW1 after all the praises it got and really disliked the game, it is not surprising that those same people don't expect much of GW2. I don't think GW2 will be anything that amazing, I can only assume it will be better then GW1 but GW1 was pretty easy to beat.

But I make a post like this for every new game, because the super fans are mad at the other posters who don't agree. But then they accuse the negative posters as being the only ones who are acting wrongly. So is being so into a game that you hate anyone who doesn't agree that it will be good.

So in summary:

You are the same as the "haters" you dislike.

The difference is that we don't go into other game forums and trash their game or troll their forums. People have posted legitimate concerns about the game and they haven't gotten flamed. But trolls and specific haters that come into the forum to trash the game as their agenda have no place here. So what if we are excited about the game? What difference does that make to you. If you don't like it, don't come into that game forum. It is simple as that. There are many other games for people to play, they can praise or voice their concerns on those games if they don't like the Guild Wars franchise.

Dude! listen we didnt say you cant post in the forum if you dont like GW 2, cons are appreciated so developpers can try to make it more pleasing or maybe even a nice argument between fellow gamers. Yes the forum is a place for open dicussion but i guess if you wanna be a big a*hole go ahead.

So let me ask you then, if someone has the intention of coming into a game forums to say a game sucks and the next game that comes out in that series sucks that it isn't trolling? They didn't like the game in the first place or they just want a reaction and attention by coming in here and saying that. There is no reason for that. Legitimate concerns and complaints sure but coming in just to troll, and that's what the op is complaining about, is crass and rude. It really says a lot about that person if he needs that attention to troll a game forum. Yes you are right it is a public forum but when you get that behavior and it's tolerated it becomes a joke forum (which sadly to say a lot of this place has become).

There really needs to be more moderation here. Maybe it's not feasible with the commitment or how much staff MMORPG.COM has but I've seen other forums have decent moderation. Heck some sites have a "rivalry" type forum up so people can specifically go there to trash other people, games, life, whatever to their hearts content. The other parts of the forum people get banned for trolling.

That was a very welcome post, and I am in complete agreement. It has been weighing down in my  mind these past few days as well, and each time I see posts that seem extremely similar to troll posts

What really annoys me though, is when people actually insult the people playing or anticipating the games, like for example, saying that they have no taste and so on. Yes, I can understand why people insult the game as well. As much as I absolutely love Guild Wars, I can see that there are flaws too, and if these flaws annoy other people, I can understand that. But what I do hate is when people belittle other people for actually liking the games they play.

What people in general need to understand is that different people have different tastes. What one person may like might not be what another person might like, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with liking something that you enjoy. Seems that it is a problem all over the MMORPG forums, not just in this place.
