As the MMO genre moves on in regards to Player versus Environment and Player versus Player and their variants, what type of MMO are you looking for in the future? Choose the type you want MOST if several apply.

I'm looking for a good pve themepark style game. I detest grinders and while I do enjoy pvp its not my sole focus. Plus every game that puts pvp as the main focus seems to go down in flames so I have just given up on that. However, while I want pve I would like it to be a little more difficult than what has been thrown at us letely. I believe it is possible for someone too make a successful WoW clone that is more difficult and more group oriented than vanilla WoW was. There are a lot of newbie MMO players that cut their teeth on WoW and are now looking for more of a challenge. However all the new game released have been even easier than WoW and they have bombed, I think its becasue most people, despite what they say don't want a game too easy. |

PVE content usually goes over big with me. Never really cared for raiding that much though, personally. Some 'casual' PVP would be nice, too, if such a thing exists. I usually find myself grinding for gear at end-game, despite my dislike for raids. The whole grind thing can really wear thin on you after a while and these days I find myself getting more enjoyment just hanging out and being social in a more laid-back setting, or helping out newbies or something. So PVE it is, for me. |

Personally, I agree with you that a wow clone with a greater difficulty would possibly attract a large crowd. Since with WoWs 12 million subscribers, there are now a huge amount of "veteran" pve players. Also agree that it seems really hard for new MMOs to focus on pvp and get away with it. It seems especially hard if the game is also supposed to have nice pve. |

None of those options are what I'm looking for. How about PvE solo focused? I want to play in a world with lots of others but never once be forced to group to get a shiny I want or explore a dungeon.

Hmm. Not much love for the raiders. |

I was considering adding it, but really an MMO focusing on solo play? I could imagine an MMO with single-player dungeons, quests and all but where the focus was still on at least small groups. I highly doubt that any new MMO will target this but I apologize for not having it in the poll....
Also, yes raiding seems to be out of fashion! Dang, and I'm in that category ^^ |

Open RVR game world. No safe zones. Able to level through PvE and/or PvP. A new interesting theme. I am tired of the same old fantasy setting.
Too be honest I really am still holding out for a well-done Deadlands or Weird West MMORPG. After the let downs AoC and WAR were I have not cared about a single new MMORPG coming out. Champions Online? I played and liked it the first time around when it was called City of Heroes. Aion? EQ with Asian graphics and flair? No, thanks. Fallen Earth? Good premise but terrible implementation. Mortal Online? I sadly think this is going to turn out to be the next Darkfall. |

Exactly. I want PvE but I never raid, ever and I don't want to be forced to group if I don't want to. Therefore, I didn't vote because there isn't a "None of the above" option. Played: UO, EQ, WoW, DDO, SWG, AO, CoH, EvE, TR, AoC, GW, GA, lots more |

PvE, group focused, preferably small groups (2-4 members), with a group-integrated story and fantastic AI. What a dream. |

I would love to see something like Shadowbane - an open world. full loot pvp with pve and city building/sieges. Not into questing, but could care less if there were quests. Also hate first person - I like to see my character. |

none of the above. I prefer a pve/pvp game where the focus is on the individual player. You can group if you so choose or solo if you so choose. I prefer sandbox as opposed to theme-park. Let your imagination soar, if you need a story to keep your interests buy a good movie and veg in front of the TV. Games should be a challenge not mindless diversion. That's my preference and opinion. Oh and NO end game at all... the game should be endless. |

Good point, I can see where people are going with solo based (open-ended) styles. I wasn't thinking out of the mmo-box that much when creating the poll unfortunately. However I will not modify/edit the poll since that will affect it too much. If possible, just chose the closest one (perhaps the open pvp in your case). |

There honestly wasn't an option for me to pick...
My view point of the "next big thing" for MMO's... is more like Second Life meets actual MMO.
Where I can buy custom "skins" for my Avatar, Armor, Weapons and even player house off something like station exchange. Then I can use those "skins" just like using a custom UI.
Where instead of "instanced guild halls" like we see in EQ2.. its "instanced player cities" so they don't clutter up the planet. Where I can buy custom art for every piece of that if I choose to.
Then have an actual MMO with combat/crafting etc and the obvious filters to keep some of the paticular custom art people would want to make... out. |

PvE focusing on character developement instead of gear farming. Basically UO in 3d with additional abilities based on skill minus the gankers. |

I have no problems with an MMO having group stuff in it, I feel that it should. But I do have problems with MMOs (like, almost every one of them), where the best loot is only available through grouping. Enough of that already.

Some of this was said by previous posters but I will reiterate a bit, I want a MMORPG that is a healthy balance of PvE and PvP. I think that first off there should be a epic and overlying story to the game (to keep players interested) that will have both PvE and PvP connections which will both effect ultimately a ever-changing story. One thing that I have noticed many MMO's fail at (no matter how hard they try) is keeping subs interested, i.e. making them feel like their actions are directly affecting game play. Instead they are by-in-large a linear and uninteresting experience. A company would do very well for itself to create a epic but sandbox-style story in a game that allows people to chose how they want to play, weather it be solo/group, PvE/PvP or changing day by day while still effecting the overlying storyline. The idea is complex and if the game had 1,000,000+ active subscribers it could get very complicated, but I fail to believe that it is impossible and I hope sometime in the future a very brave company will really try to simulate this "real" and ever changing virtual world, it would either be a massive success or a terrible failure, but if they tried hard enough and got it right, this said game would be on top for 10+ years. Maybe it's asking too much, but without dreams what are we? |
