This game had a unique lifetime membership for a flat fee.  I was wondering if people who payed up for that were happy with it and still play..?

I paid for two lifetime subs at launch.  We've gotten more than our moneys worth, but I don't log in much anymore, maybe 1 evening a week.  There's nothing for me to do.  My play style isn't compatible with grinding intances, rep, rad gear until my eyes bleed...so I go play other games.

Not real happy with Turbine and the direction they've taken the game.  Each patch/book the game added more an more features that make it close to a WOW clone...with no expansion in sight.

Oh well, with a lifetime sub I can quit for a year and come back anytime I want.  Anxiously awaiting TOR.

single best MMO decision i ever made (just purchased a CO lifetime too because of how awesome/long CoH was).

I still play but not very consistant.  I find with a lifetime sub i have the freedom to pick it up and play whenever i get a craving (usually every 3 months or so) and depending on the MMO market i can stay for up to 3 weeks at a time.  Recently (with the crappy market) i spend 2 and a half weeks playing a champion and after purchasing MoM i rolled up a runekeeper for a quick weeklong play 2 weeks ago.

So yeah lifetime subs rock.

MMO wish list:

-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

I have the lifetime sub and I am still playing.   It's still the most beautiful game on the market.

hm i dont really think that lifetime membership is a very good idea.

well ofcourse its a good idea for developers to make sure they have money, but its not for players.

why is that? a lot of mmos are goin downhill. and whats after that? servers down or game goin f2p.

^Well, I don't think there is that problem to worry about.  LOTRO seems to have a stable population.

But you just better make darn sure you really like the game before paying up that much. I really liked the starter areas, and had no troulbe finding groups there, so I sprung for the lifetime sub.

Only to discover a month later, how much I hated the game and its stuckup community that never groups (or talks to anyone outside their kin, or at least to me).

Certainly one of the worst financial decisions I've made in the last couple years, once I always regret when there is something $200 I want to buy instead.

Lifetimer since launch and still play LotrO! Best deal ever :)

If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

I bought the lifetime subscription and have no regrets.

I hardly play now, but I do drop in for a look at least once a month or anytime I feel like it.  I will play regularly again when the level cap is raised or there is new solo content.

There are games I would like to revisit to see whether my interest would rekindle,  For example, EQ, WoW, City of Heroes and Istaria (aka Horizons).  However,  there are significant barriers to revisiting games you have not played for a while.  Some of the barriers include:

  • payment of at least a full month's subscription
  • purchasing and downloading any missing expansions
  • downloading missing updates
  • if you have purchased a new PC since last time you played, you need to download and re-install the whole game. Even if you did purchase a retail copy on disk originally, it is mostly likely so out of date that it you are better of downloading a more up to date version.

I just wish some of my other old games also had a less costly and more convenient way to revisit.

I should have bought the lifetime membership for my wife at release but I didn't think the game was that good.

I ended up buying it later when they had the $200 price special.  Glad I did.

I got my lifetime account for free from a PAX event :P

I still play every once and a while.

You're always saying how no one talks in the game. Have you joined the GLFF channel? Can't get people to shut up in that channel.

Playing - LotRO, SWToR
Played - FFXI, WoW, Lineage 2, Guild Wars, Aion

Yeah, I am usually on late at night.  And the GLFF channel is still mobbed even at that time.  Never have a hard time finding a group for much.  Maybe your server? I am on brandywine.

I have a life time and have been playing since the early days of closed beta. I bought the lifetime account as soon as it was announced and just took a leap of faith. I'm glad I did, I got years and years of entertainment out of the game.

However, I am a leader of a raiding kin (guild) and quite frankly the game has run out of steam for us anyways. There's just  not enough to do bar grind the same raids 4x a week.

Don't get me wrong I still feel its one of the best games on the market and is leagues ahead of anything I have personally played but there's just not enough there for the "hardcore" crowd. Once you get to the stage we were at and farming The Watcher & Turtle 4x weekly and doing 2 DN runs a week the lack of anything else to do gets a little stale. We where at a point where we had members with 5 characters fully maxed out in full raiding gear.

LOTRO is a fantastic MMO and I recommend everybody try it but if you play 25+ hours a week you will find after a month or two at the cap you are struggling to find things to do and will start resorting to alts.

I still do from time to time. LoTRO will probably never be my main MMO, but its good to come back to when I like. I wish more games would offer the lifetime subscription, but as far as I know only LoTRO and Champions Online (offer expired last night I think) have done so.

Yeah...I like hit stuff and it dies.

Life subber here. Got it since launch. Got it for the IP and the history. Have lots of RP buddies. The game is fun if you have the right friends. There is a serious brick wall though.

Lifetimer & Founder here, and yes, I still play, and I consider it some of the best gaming money I have EVER spent....and I've spent a whole lot on gaming.

Have I played non-stop since launch? No. That's perfectly alright, too. I don't feel like I 'have to' play to 'get my money's worth' because... I have forever, figuratively speaking. I can play once a week, a couple times a month, not at all for 3 months straight, or every single night for 8 hours straight ... whatever I'm in the mood for. Right now I'm playing it pretty much every single day, and have been for a few months, but before that I didn't play at all for a few. I was busy trying out Warhammer, got into a couple betas, and then got deep into a string of SP games.

My kinship in LotRO has quite a few lifetimers, and quite a few that would like to get the lifetime sub (and either lack the funds or are upset they missed any chance at getting the cheaper Founder-referral pricing now that Turbine's finally ended that).

I have a founders life time sub and still play the game regularly. I absolutely adore it and will continue to play it so long as it exists. I will admit my activity increases when new content is released but thats because I love to play my RPGs in between. Its the only MMO I play and will likely be so until BioWare releases SW:TOR. Right up my alley of course as I mentioned I love RPG's.

Bought a lifetime subscription for my brother as a gift last year and he has more than gotten the money's worth out of it.  He hasn't been logging-in as much over the last few months due to all the grinding and rep grinding required at the later levels, so I have taken to leveling some of his alt-characters as a way to pass the time while waiting for other games, so I've gotten a little enjoyment out of it as well.  For the amount of time he has put into the game, I think that it was worth the price.  The game is definitely losing a lot of its charm for me, personally.  I had a real blast pre-Moria, but since then it just hasn't felt the same so I find myself losing a lot of interest in it.

I have a lifetime subscription and I think it was a good investment..  I have played and then left and I am now back again.  With a lifetime subscription , I think it gives you a lot of lead way in regards to playing.  And with the lack of very good MMO's out there it gives me something to play.

Take this post with a grain of salt OP.

This poster plays on the unofficial RP server Landroval where there is emoting/RPing everywhere nearly, conversations, and events going on regularly.  The GLFF(global looking for fellowship chat channel) is nearly impossible to keep pace with at any point in the day.  It is easily the friendliest community I have been a part of in the 11 years I have been playing MMO's.

The poster either doesn't have his chat window open or has done something that has alienated him from the tightknit community on Landroval.

More OT:

I was a part of closed beta and bought the lifetime/founders deal the day they made it available.

I have no regrets whatsoever.  If I get busy in RL, there's no concern about wasted money since I have no month to month sub fee.  I play when I want and I feel it has really added to my enjoyment of the game.  I don't feel rushed to do anything and can take my time.

The beautiful part is, this game has a healthy population and the devs have even said it is growing so it's not going anywhere anytime in the near future....unless they CU/NGE it, lol.

Turbine is consistently coming up with new content and adding to the game.  Some of it popular, some of it not....you'll have that with any MMO though.

If they ever offer it again, I will talk as many people as I can into it, if they really like the game.  I may even pick up another one.
