awesome blizzard, now warcraft is a professional e sport now. Now who says blizzard's pvp sucked? It is officially mainstream pvp now. Congrates to blizzard for becoming the first mmorpg to become professional e sport in the world of professional sports and the world. |

Professional? Hardly. Did WoW's PvP suck? No, but it is unbalanced and is highly undeserving of being an e-sport. I don't know if it's "officially" mainstream, but it is indeed mainstream. WoW pvp is a joke - it's a run-in-circles, jump up and down, macro-mashing, carebear yawnfest. |

Your late too the party, regardless of whether it should be an e-sport, it's been for along time. Originally posted by --Name edited out--

Magic the Gathering was an E-sport too. Not sure if it still is... ESPN likes money too and lately it seems Blizzard has plenty enough to buy into the mainstream. Go go capitalism! Sadly for WoW fans this is may actually be the first sign that the game has become 'too' mainstream and will begin to collapse. Fads cannot hold up to mainstream attention for long. When something becomes so big that it seems that 'everyone is doing it' the rebellious side of human nature kicks in and suddenly it's 'not cool'. |

How is wow's pvp system flawed? It is now shown as a professional sports like professional soccer, football, tennis, and basketball. WOW's pvp system has become a professional e sport shown on the tv network ESPN lol. Its the first mmorpg ever to achieve such a status. Those who missed watching it on ESPN can watch it live stream on my link. So the question remains how is wow's pvp system flawed? If wow's pvp system is so flawed why is it so popular and deserves to be shown on sports channel espn???? |

Wow has broken down the barrier between professional sports and e sports, quite possibly the only game to ever acheive professional sports status. As far as wow dying , it would never die. There will never be another mmorpg that will dethrone wow. And so with this new news, i mean wow has come a long way too long. It has finally became super mainstream now thanks to the sports tv network. :p |

My ignorance senses are tingling. You DO realize that Starcraft* has been considered a sport long before WoW ever was considered a so called "e-sport" right? *Only applies in Korea however. Noone watches arena outside of WoW players, it's a good thing there are a lot of them. Enjoy it while lasts, it is the worst spectator game out there right now in the pro scene. The only people that can follow that trash are WoW arena players. I'm not saying there isn't any skill involved or the pvp sucks, because it doesn't, but WoW is nowhere near the level of pro games like Starcraft, Quake, Streetfighter. As long as it has an MMORPG attached to it, with the main focus of the game being a PVE game it will never be on a real pro-gaming level outside of WoW players. |

The values are never going to be perfect and balanced out for each class and the system requires constant balancing (which will never end, its impossible since we are only human). The difference between that and sports is that in sports, you can't complain that the wide receiver position has too much speed or a lineback has too much strength because the game is mostly determined by the players with a much looser set of rules to follow compared to a video game (where you are more or less controlled by the program). However, the game Madden is as prone to flaws as WoW PvP. In regards to the OP, I don't think being on ESPN is that big of a deal, have you seen what else have been on ESPN? Magic the Gathering was beyond main stream before I ever seen it on ESPN. I don't think it makes it any more or less mainstream or officially mainstream on any given level. Professional gaming has been around for many years and can be easily followed online. I don't think ESPN defines whether or not video gaming is main stream, I think its popular and the communities that have brought this up for over the last decade. |

Off topic: Magic the Gathering is a fantastic card game btw. Ok very commercial, but the design was incredible. I only pity the people who have to pay for the cards, but if WOW is compared to MTG, no problem with that.
Funny someone brought up Magic the Gathering. I recently bought the Xbox live arcade Magic game you get an amazing amount of cards (thousands) and can play online or single player. I know it's off topic but if you love magic go buy it!!! was like 19 bucks. Oh and no you wont need to buy more booster packs they basically give you enough cards to make decks for a life time. Playing: WoW, EvE Interested in: TOR, ER, GW2, WoD, Dust514 |
