So i just read on Aionsource that, apparently, Open beta is going to require a key. Wtf is that shit? Isn't open beta supposed to be free? I want to test this game out before making a commitment, not pay 50$ so i can play it early >_> |

"Developers release either a closed beta or an open beta; closed beta versions are released to a select group of individuals for a user test, while open betas are to a larger community group, usually the general public. The testers report any bugs that they found and sometimes minor features they would like to see in the final version." Open Beta != Free trial |

re read your post, open beta is open to a larger community, still selected by the game company. in this case they selected the people that preordered, so either pay up or shut up =p, you can get in for $5 to a local gamestop. |

I didn't make it clear, my bad. != is the sign for 'not equal' in various programming languages. |

I am fairly certain that the $5 pre-order from Best Buy will get you in. I bet you can spare $5 to try out a game... Altough, I could be wrong. I got an email from NC Soft saying something about my account having access at some point... Can anyone confirm? |

Beta is not a trial people. This open beta is to better the game and stress test most new servers. I'm glad they are filtering out the retards that don't want to put forth effort for the game. |

Beta this close to release is a trial contrary to popular belief, its the release version, not to mention this game is already out in China so no major changes will be coming down the pipe. That being said I have already pre-ordered my copy of AION and will be in the "Open" beta, but I think its pretty shitty they aren't letting everyone in. Fact remains that "Open" usually means there are no special requirements, CB and OB in AION's case are both the same thing, if you preordered, or are a fileplanet subscriber etc is the only way you are getting in. |

Simple answer is if you do not want to pay for the game you will have to wait a few months for a buddy key program or even longer for the Free Trials |

They already have like 5 servers in closed beta from pre orders. If they had a true open beta they would need more servers than they would need at launch and that wouldn't make sense now would it?

I couldnt play CO Open Beta because the site giving out keys had problems sending to my mailprovider. So I would guess its just normal practice that you need a key. |

Did anyone ever stop to think that *ALL* open beta's require a key, and there will likely be ways to get the keys from websites such as Fileplanet, MMOHell, and various other gaming community sites, for FREE. Probably even here at mmorpg.com You just have to watch for them so that you don't miss out because the keys will likely be limited in number. |

This open beta, just like most other betas in the past, will require a key. And, keeping with similarities from other MMO open betas, you can get a key from multiple locations for FREE. All it takes is a little bit of research, some good timing... or, at the very least, a good friend who will hook you up :P. |

All it takes is a little bit of research, some good timing... or, at the very least, a good friend who will hook you up :P. Yes. Keep an eye for massive free key distributions, especially tomorrow and on Tuesday. And remember, they can't simply let everyone in or we'll suffer the same lag as in one of the CBTs, in which a massive amount of people preordered the game when the buzz about the game exploded, and 2 or 4 servers weren't simply enough anymore and there would be massive login queues. Then you would be here whining about how NCSoft is stupid and can't correctly manage an open beta instead of whining about not being able to get a key when the distributions haven't even started yet. This isn't a random asian free to play game, these kinds of closed (heh) and open BETAs open for EVERYONE that can fill in username password and email fields aren't that common. |
