I've seen quite a few people display their dislike for World of Warcraft because of how it lacks "hardcore" content.

Well my questions are, "What hardcore games do you play >>currently<< since WoW is below your expectations?" and "Why do you consider your game Hardcore?"

"There is only one thing of which I am certain, and that's nothing is certain."

Fire fighters are hardcore, policemen are hardcore, A soldier fighting for his/her country is hardcore. No such thing as a "hardcore gamer" Once someone designs a MMO that has a death penalty that makes someone drive to your home and put a gun in your face for dying then we can call those guys hardcore.

As for "Hardcore" games? ehh no such thing either.

Certain games may take more research to play well and hold a bit more risk when dying but every mmo is the same.

Easy.

Playing: WoW, EvE

Interested in: TOR, ER, GW2, WoD, Dust514

"A very special kind of stupidity"

I'm moderately "hardcore" within the context of playing a video game (take note, poster above)

I reject the "need" for the game to be made easy; I accept that any failures in my game play are down to me to analyze, interpret and solve. I want maximum freedom of gameplay, despite the fact that this means that many players will use that freedom to do things that I or others will find annoying or pointless. All I ask is that there be plenty of room for me & my mates to do our thing, and that we try or fail on our own merits.

Don't protect me. Just give me enough information to start playing and get the hell out of my way.

Give me liberty or give me lasers

Well the point of my post was to see

A.) What "hardcore" game they were playing

and

B.) Why they considered their game "hardcore"

Hmm so you compare real life with games lol.

You know your on agame site right and can't compare fir/policeman/soldier with gamers and why we call them casual or hardcore these are 2 complete different subjects.

Hardcore for me is without macroing visit sites and figure game out by exploring and trying how things work without looking for walkthroughs or DB sites of that game.

I play Darkfall with no macro/exploit and i never visit sites to find out how something works or where can find it i do it all by myself.

I also solo in Darkfall play for 6months now and im rather far in my crafting and skill development without need to macro/exploit/clan.

Maybe thats hardcore, but offcorse others have other ideas of what hardcore is, playing WoW doing raids for years getting all gear they can get and play every day for hours and hours to get to there goal can also be hardcore.

Oh i think if you dont macro/exploit in Darkfall like me its rather hardcore almost no guidance no directions its all open plus you have dangerous enviroment of free for all pvp with full loot with no savezones or private instance its a truely open free world, thats i think rather hardcore also.

Nope,  just sticking it to these lame self proclaimed "hardcore gamers" that think they're superior to everyone because they log in 40+ hours a week and avoid the outside world.

I consider myself a hardcore gamer because I play alot of games but I suppose I really only think of hardcore games as being ones you have to put alot of effort into or take dedication. For example I consider EVE a hardcore MMO, as well as Civilzation or most shooters as being hardcore.

Well with respect, Remii718, I understand what you're saying pertaining to your relevance. But with this particular post, I "am" asking about MMO's, and what they consider "hardcore" and what "hardcore" games they are playing, not looking for a flame war.

The only MMORPG I play is EvE, because it comes the closest to fulfilling those requirements.

I was Raiding Plane of Fear in EQ1 until the eartly hours of the morning , i think by this point i was on a 24 hours session easily and almost in a semi conscious, the guild wiped once again and i think i must have fallen alseep waiting for a monk to come drag my corpse , proberly was only for a minute but i woke in a startle at in game noise thinking the worse and i piss my pants little but i continued to raid for the next 2 hours without changing my pants.

True story, i think i still have the stain.

I hope ZeniMax is working on Fallout Online.

8/29/09 3:33:06 PM#15

Risk.  If a game lacks any risk, then you might as well be playing Bejeweled.

Eve Online has risk.
Even CoX has risk.
Anarchy Online has risk.
Shadowbane had risk.

If failure carries some risk, then the game might start to be considered hardcore depending on that risk.

In WoW, there is no risk involved with failure.  It is a casual time sink.

Games that have open PvP, looting system (Kill/Thief a player and take an item(s) from his/her position) and PvP rank system :D And of course the game itself has to be very good as well!

Personally, though I don't play it anymore... was Shadowbane.

I leveled up a Confessor, ganked and was ganked, joined a guild, put my time and money into helping build a town and running it... then for some reason the Guild Master pissed someone off, and war was declared on our town. While me and a skeleton crew was busy defending the sieges and dying... the GM was hiding in the corner of an empty "allied" town. Sickened that he wasn't there dying with us while everything was destroyed, girl in the guild and I finally found him... unguilded ourselves in front of him, and killed him for his cowardice. Then proceeded to join the people that was destroying the town we helped build.

Good times.

Sure you don't get killed, but those that play 12/7 risk their lives in another way, you're likely to fuck up your health & yor career in the long run

Imo "Hardcore Games" are games which take a huge ammount of time to succeed, in that way wow is more hardcore than eve,

sure wow can be managed by the braindead but raiding takes still a shitload of time -afaik more than it takes in eve to play at the top.

I know and I appreciated the reply in your first post, I'm just trying to emphasise to everyone it's not a flame war or like you said about epeens.

Last MMO I played was WoW when I returned for a month for WotLK. I play casual now, because my RL requires me to do more at the age of 30, than it did when I started my MMO career at 18. My previous invovlements with "hardcore" games are very dated, Ultima Online (Pre Second Age) Dark Age of Camelot (I played Hibernia side pre shrouded isles, so yes that was hardcore mode) and Shadowbane.

I'm just curious about the people that play their "Hardcore" games, and why they think it's hardcore.
