Hahaha! This isn't really relevant to the conversation, but I think it's hilarious that in the six pages of conversation, DukeDu has only posted one other time besides creating the thread. Here, to give my post relevance: It's true, DukeDu, most "mainstream" MMOs require you give them ~ $15/month. It's just their way of getting an income whenever they're paying to patch the game, bring in content, maintain the servers, etc. Age of Conan, Lineage II, World of Warcraft, Warhammer, EVE, EverQuest II... All require a monthly fee. |

Its simple. If you only wanted to pay for 1 month of service with a CC. then just setup your account & pay for your 1st month, then after you do that, just cancel your subscription.
You get to play for the full month & your account will not auto renew.

I don't use a credit card... I use my Debit card and ti takes it right out of my account. All you have to do is just make sure you have the money in there and you are fine. This way you don't have to worry about paying your credit card. Anyway welcome to MMOs OP |

To the OP: OR use this great invention on the internets called "Paypal". That way you don't give any of your CC info directly to NCsoft, AND you get the choice for either a one-time payment or the subscription based payment - all from your paypal account. Works kinda like debit, except you don't give any personal information away. :) |

DukeDu, I notice you are not from a generally English-speaking country, but the terms of service you quote say NCSoft will charge you "when you authorize" -- the box and terms of service specify there is a SUBSCRIPTION that is monthly, and you agree to pay it in the EULA and TOS somewhere (I don't want to dig for it now). If this is a problem, it's either not reading all the EULA/TOS (who does?) or a language barrier. The subscription is all over the place in the game information. If you get the game in a box, there's also a warning that it requires monthly subscription (and another warning that tells you you need an internet connection), in addition to the minimum requirements for your computer to run the game. All of these are your responsibility to read before you install. On the other hand, if you go to your account page, you can cancel the subscription at any time, just by changing a web form. At that time, you no longer *authorize* payments to NCSoft, and you will no longer be charged the next month's subscription, but you can still play until your renewal date, since you paid in advance for the current month. Admittedly, the only Brazilian MMO I can find is F2P, and doesn't require subscription -- but the MMO field globally is about equally divided between F2P and P2P games at this point, and there's no special agreement about the merits and flaws of either model. Good luck exploring the world of online gaming! Shava

Last time I checked NCSOFT sold only video games, not internet service, cable tv or health care. They only sell VIDEO GAMES. Now this is what's happening (I'm going to put it in a hypothetical situation similar to what happned to me once).
"A person buys this game, but then for any reason, doesn't matter why, this person doesn't want to play anymore. Ok, in the end of the month he recives in his credit card bill the valor he paid for the game ($50 Dollars). But! Guess, what? On the next month after that he gets a surprise in his credit card bill. Although he didnt even played the game anymore, although he didn't even has the game instaled for more than a month, he recives in his credit card bill a debt of $15 dollars for something he didn't even used, something he wasn't even aware of: A Subscription to Aion."
This company thinks they can charge you over and over again simply because ONCE you gave then your credit card number. That's right. For example: If I buy a video game at amazon once, you'll keep reciving the same video game again and again and again until you say "no I don't want it anymore". It's the same thing! We're talking about video games in here people, not cable tv or health care, so it's the same thing. Also I played many MMO's and it's not truth that the majority of the games are like this, I bet that in the hundreds of games in this very website list not even half a dozen of then are like this. And don't tell me "it's your fault because you didn't read the user agreement". We don't even read the video game history, we don't even read the quests the npcs ingame tells us to do and we don't even read about what's goin on in the game's plot. So nevertherless we read the user agreement, section 5: Billling! They know this, and because of that they do make a quick buck out of it! And again that's why I'm here for: To warm new players how those "barely legal" companies act. |

DukeDu, May I be so bold as to ask what previous MMO's you have subscribed to, prior to Aion? |

What you fail to understand or comprehend is the fact that you not only bought a video game, you bought an MMORPG. it CLEARLY states it on the box that it requires a MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION to be able to play the game. When you sign up on your account it clearly tells you that you will be charged per month for playing the game. There is no surprises here at all for anyone who actually reads what they are signing up for. You dont even have to read the user agreement, it tells you on the BOX and when you are creating your account.
There is another way around this and many MMO's use this, Game cards. You can buy them in usually 1-3 month lots and use them to pay so you dont have to give your credit card information.
And of course, I do have to state this. it IS YOUR FAULT if you do not read the box, the sign up form or the user agreement. it is plastered EVERYWHERE. Sorry, but you really do not have a leg to stand on when it comes to your arguement. Its like me saying I bought a new car, what do you mean I have to pay the gas for it every time the tank goes empty. Its common sense. No matter if its a video game, a new car, a cable subscription or buying a new house, it is up to the USER to read what they are getting into and if they fail to do so, its their own fault. I could almost understand where your coming from IF they tried to hide those charges, but they tell you everywhere you look that this is a monthly fee game, starting right on the dang BOX.
You know, this is the exact reason we now have warnings on every freaking thing you buy. You buy a frozen dinner, they now tell you to not eat the box. You buy a bottle of asprin, Dont eat the cotton inside. Come on people, just a teeny tiny little bit of common sense goes a looooooooong way. If your only defense for trolling or hatred is a stupid tag line, Then you should quit life. |

I can't think of one game that does not say "RECURRING SUBSCRIPTION: CHOOSE LENGTH HERE...." And than lets you select how long. Of course, it is pretty hard to click CANCEL. I don't know if I should be amazed or sad over this. |

Maybe you should be warning people about the birth defects upon children born from women that take way too many drugs during pregnancy instead of mmorpg subsriptions. |

DukeDu has done( and still doing) a really good job of fooling everyone. After three posts of the same stuff after everyone has been saying the same thing, he continues to go with his original thoughts. Time to let this thread die, people. |
