Arenanet have nothing in common with NC soft except the fact that both uses NC soft as a publisher.

NCsoft own Arenanet, they bought them.

Arenanet never really existed alone; they got NCSoft to fund Guild Wars because they were the people that made Warcraft, and NCSoft salivated at the idea. They left Blizzard, which is why everything from Blizzard sucks now, and Arenanet makes great games. Arenanet functions totally independently; that was part of the contract as Anet said years ago. They are part of NCWest because they are a western company, but they do not answer to NCSoft. NCSoft is happy to have them making games under them. They get profit from some of the greatest minds in gaming and don't have to work for the privilege. Anet has the financial security that comes from being under NCSoft. Guild Wars was nothing like other NC offerings, and NC is glad to have someone so different under them. Please understand what you are saying before making short quips that you think are smart.

Why are you taking what I said offensively, I know perfectly well who arenanet are and their relationship with NCsoft, the user said that Arenanet have nothing in relation to NCsoft which was incorrect

I dont completely agree with you on the "Guild Wars was nothing like other NC offerings"  GW is very near graphically speaking to the style of every NCSoft Games, even if they are a western company

NCSoft is a publisher, they are in charge of Advertisement sales and related things, and generally fund development of the games they publish. They do not develop it, however they do have some say as they funded it(usually)

ArenaNet is a developer, they create the game. That is their job. They do not usually market it or deal with anything else.

Technically speaking, NCsoft is a hybrid. They publish and develop their own games sometimes. Such as Aion itself, it is completely self developed and published themselves.

In ArenaNets case, they will not get any help in the "money" department in order to advertise the game. Though NCsoft will help promote Guildwars 2, the promoting is all funded from Arenanets pockets. Hence, "Riskier"

True but in this case they are not. They are simply a publisher.

Exactly, Aion and the Lineage games are made by NCSoft, games like Guild Wars, City of Heroes/Villains, Tabula Rasa, are all games developed by others to be distributed by NC

Because you are wrong and that has the potential to confuse people. NCSoft is only publishing the game, and Arenanet is only using NCSoft in the capacity of a publisher. Arenanet IS self-contained and the development of their games is in no way influenced by NCSoft's style or method.

So, I am offended by people that are completely wrong, but maintain they know what they are talking about and assert their correctness while continuing to say things that are not correct. That makes you a troll or just someone stupid with a thing against Arenanet. I also ususally think someone that colors their text is a troll or desperately seeking attention. And since your post is likely to be seen more readily than others, I want people to know you are wrong. I don't want people to write off this game as a NCSoft grinder because of people like you before they know anything about it.

"There are two great powers, and they've been fighting since time began. Every advance in human life, every scrap of knowledge and wisdom and decency we have has been torn by one side from the teeth of the other. Every little increase in human freedom has been fought over ferociously between those who want us to know more and be wiser and stronger, and those who want us to obey and be humble and submit."

Well, i loved GW and i like most NCSoft games.

I dont agree that they are totally independent from NCSoft, like i said before, the graphic style is very near from the other NCSoft games and this cannot be a coincidence.

For example, my brother played GW for 3 years and for the last year he stopped palying games for personal reasons. Some weeks ago i showed him Aion when I was playing the closed beta. His first comment was, and without even knowing it was an NCSoft game: "Nice graphics, the character style remind me Guild Wars"

What I mean is that I agree that Arenanet is independent, but i do think they follow some lines defines by NC in order to be distributed by them. Either that ot there are some great coincidences between GW and the other NC games

The characters do have a little similarity to Aion, not as much as you think but it is there. The environment and terrain? No way, no similarity at all.

Also I think it's more or less a concidences. People like Aion for more than it's art style and I think those are the reason it was chosen. Yes people have mentioned a similiarity to Guild Wars as far as art design but that's only two of the titles that NCSoft publishes... there are many more that have nothing in common.

I agree it's a coincidence. And really it is the player characters that have any sort of similar look. The art direction of the games are different. I've played both games and get no sense of sameness or similarity. For example the monsters you fight couldn't be any more different.

NCSofts logo is all over the game so you are arguing over nothing. Take away NCSofts money and servers, no more GW or GW2.

NCSoft is the company that went out on a limb and gave the little western guy a chance and shelled out the investment capital just like City of Heroes, Auto Assault,  Tabula Rasa. Cryptic made it big time because someone gave them a chance.

You may not like NCSoft because they are "Asian" but they have given more western underdogs a shot then anyone else I've seen. I don't see Turbine or Funcom publishing anyones games...

I don't think anybody is disputing that. Some people have the impression that NCSoft is actually developing or creating the game though, they aren't. ArenaNet is creating the game. It is like the structure of Activision and Blizzard or EA and Bioware.

Exactly. I have no idea why this is so complicated for some of these people. I am growing annoyed by people noting similarities. They are few and they are slight. It is no more the same than many MMOs out there today. It is tiresome to have to correct people time and again when they think Arenanet being under NC means NC controls their games. NCSoft likes the money they get, but part of the ownership agreement is that Arenanet makes the games it wants to make with no interference.

Seriously, if you do not care enough about the games to even understand how the companies function, you need to stop trolling these forums. I am tired of it.

"Gamers will no longer buy the argument that every MMO requires a subscription fee to offset server and bandwidth costs. It's not true — you know it, and they know it." —Jeff Strain, co-founder of ArenaNet, 2007

WTF? No subscription fee?

NCSofts logo is all over the game so you are arguing over nothing. Take away NCSofts money and servers, no more GW or GW2.

I don't think anybody is disputing that. Some people have the impression that NCSoft is actually developing or creating the game though, they aren't. ArenaNet is creating the game. It is like the structure of Activision and Blizzard or EA and Bioware.

I will dispute that, and counter it. Without ArenaNet NCSoft would be in a world of hurt in the western world. To add, just because NCSoft funded the games does not mean ArenaNet is locked to them, the contract does have clauses to protect a developer from a publisher trying to control them in the entirety, and vice-versa, however they could always get another publisher, and I know several companies would be more than willing.

This is a two way road, NCSoft cannot destroy GW, or GW2 because it still belongs to ArenaNet. It is like people who own stock, they have say, but only to a certain point.

Direct quote from ArenaNet.com:

"Located in Bellevue, Washington, ArenaNet is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Korea-based NCsoft Corporation."

Need a definition of subsidiary?

http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/subsidiary

There you go.

Other subsidiaries of NCSoft here in the states?

Paragon Studios

Carbine Studios

Hope that clears up some of the confusion.  If not, then research a bit more and I hope things become clear to you.

All that shows is they are published by NCSoft, sorry to burst your bubble of fun!

Using your own link for reference:

The parent and subsidiary remain separate legal entities, and the obligations of one are separate from those of the other. Nevertheless, if a subsidiary becomes financially insecure, the parent corporation is often sued by creditors. In some instances courts will hold the parent corporation liable, but generally the separation of corporate identities immunizes the parent corporation from financial responsibility for the subsidiary's liabilities.

And in the gaming industry, words do have different meanings. I would know, I am studying the industry in college.
