I should post this over at the Guild Wars forum too.  If the game wasn't so good and I didn't plan to play it for sometime I would just forget this but...

Recently NCSoft announced an Aion promo in which people who have certain versions of the game are able to get wings for their characters in Guild Wars.  On September 22nd you can log into your Guild Wars account and type /Aion and your characters can have wings.  Though they are not usuable they can still have the Aion wings for looks.

The editions that do this for the player are the Aion Steelbook Edition and the Aion Limited Collectors Edition.  Both of these are hard copies and available through retailers only!  This is by no way fair!

I happend to be one of the people that purchased through the NCSoft site.  And I purchased the 'Collectors Edition' so I could get into the beta and get the free items.

Both the regular version of Aion and the Collectors Edition have been both available for digital download through the NCSoft store.  And both have allowed access to the beta days.

If I had known they were going to release 'ANOTHER' Collectors Edition, a 'Limited Collectors Edition'. complete with a music disc, figure, and artwork book, plus the new Guild Wars Wings promo, I would not have bought the digital download collectors edition.  (The Digital Download Collectors Edition is also available through Steam btw).

I am sorry but this whole thing stinks!  The Steelbook Edition and The Limited Collectors Edition should have been advertised before the digital download versions were available.   It has only been in the past couple of weeks that you can pre-order these hard  copy retailer items.  What should have happened is they could have sold the hard copies to go to the homes first, and then use the key for the beta.  The whole launch is horrible!  It could be because that is what they did with 'Tabula Rasa'.  But I don't care.  It is very, very poor managed advertising.

It is not right that us digital download people get punished for putting our money out first!  Its one of the worse/horrible displays of advertising for an MMO I have ever seen!!  How many people are going to buy a hard copy at $10.00 more even though they have a digital download version already paid for!

It should have been handled differently with keys given away through a pre-order with companies such as Amazon.com.  Others companies have done this and there is no excuse for this situaion to be as it is.

The only way I can figure out of this for NCSoft is to make a buyable pack available for the Aion Wings under Guild Wars.  Which of course would mean more money for them.  By the way, I also find extremely unfair!

Ummm......nope.

until the boxed copy of games dies out you wont see this issue being resolved.  Even though they know they wont sell as many boxed copies as they would digital copies they still need to sell as many as they can for profit.  That is why you see in all games that the hard copy of games generally gets items/rewards that the digital download does not.  I agree that if they offered the collectors online then they should give you the wings but you have to understand that most games are going to pull stunts like this just to sell boxes and Aion is no exception

The physical CE was available at the same time, if not before the digital CE was available. It was available before the FIRST CBT had even started. However it's limited in quantity and sold out fast, hence why there's now a online CE edition for $10 less so you can get the ingame items. As for the guildwar emotes, who really freaking cares. Wow, you have aion emote wings, whoop-deeee-dooooo. Congratulations on proving just how whiny you actually are.

I don't see what the big deal is, this is how life works.

there is always going to be some promotion you miss or some opportunity that passes you by.

Life doesn't work where you get all your choices right up front and you get to pick.  part of living is that you have to make choices based on what you know and hope that they will pan out.

And in the end, if you REALLY have to have that promotion then you can just buy it. Heck, you might even be able to return the other.

But keep in mind, there might be ANOTHER promotion that is made that is even better.

This is not the first time this will happen to you and it won't be the last.

Ummmm.... I had my limited edition box preordered for months (and it comes with everything you mentioned). What are you talking about?

The question would be, who cares about a cd and some nice looking box your going to forget about in a months time anyways. I mean seriously, why do you need that garbage anyways?

There is nothing to be upset about. It's a silly emote that is cool yes but hardly has a purpose. it's not like you can run around with the wings on.. it's an EMOTE.

Plus I don't understand why you think Aion will have a horrible launch but whatever. The Guild Wars promo is complete fair and most other mmos have done something similiar.

Am I missing something?  How does any of this relate to a horrible launch?

I think you can just add the new code to the account. I would write and ask if you havne't already done so.

I think you can just add the new code to the account. I would write and ask if you havne't already done so.

I did.  I was in touch with customer support via NSSoft and they could refund my money but if they cancelled from my NCSoft Main Account, the only one I have going with COH/GW/Lineage 2, etc. and I wanted to play the game again,  I would have to create a new NCSoft main account.
 

I am keeping what I have bought, more room in my closet with no box, but if the hard copy limited edition was available at the time I probably would have ordered that instead and just waited for it to come in the mail, or go to the retailers at midnight.  It was up on Amazon.com, but you could not order it, same with GameStop.  And it did not list any 2 day headstart codes and some of the other extras like for instance now the Guild War wings.  Now it is up for pre-purchase.  Lousy order of release, henceforth my complaint.

Oh one other thing I forgot to mention in this which is also pertinent to what I think is a bad launch is where is the Aion Forum?

I am complaining here because they removed the Aion community forum after the last beta run!  What's with that?!  According to what I read there will not be a forum until the game launch.  That also stinks!!

That's weird since they never said they came with physical items and there has been boxes sold by retailers just as long as offered digitally.

Are you seriously complaining about this  ?  This in no way makes anything a horrible launch.  Horrible would be DFO, Vanguard, EQ2.  Please read up on horrible launches before you complain about this crap.
