Come on Kiba daddy got a nice juicy steak for you... |
One of the Staff writers on this site said that he projected that WoW will be number One in the year 2012. I beg to differ and I will toss my hat in this debate only because I am tired of people being blinded by the all mighty Blizz. Anywho this is why I feel that TOR will be not only number one by 2012 but I dare say by 2011 also. lets compare.
To give WoW a fair chance yes they are the king of MMORPGs as of this moment but to be honest Blizz will be Blizz own down fall reason being. They themselves know that Wow will loose its popularity considering the fact that they have resurrected not one but two older titles we all know them as Starcraft and Diablo. Yes I do realize that none of these games are not a MMO as of yet but these very games will take away players from WoW. And to be honest Blizz is scrambling yet again anouther expansion to the ever growing WoW. Woot now the elf class or blood elf's for that matter can go play in another land. Is it me or dose anyone else noticed how much attention Blizz is desperately trying to get us to give them. My goodness with all the new mounts again and new Raids again and new this new that whatever T7 gear T8 gear or whatever purple item you can equip your toon with it never ends. Guess what Blizz im sorry to be give you the bad news but it will end and soon actually it will end by the hands of Bioware here is why.......
www.swtor.com/news/news-article/20090819_001 Now come on can anyone truly argue against why TOR will be number one at least by 2012???

I am really hoping by 2012 there won't be a game that is king of the mmorpg market. That is not good for us gamers, and not good for the market. I hope it will be something like console FPSs are now, Halo v COD v Killzone, a plate of games with different style but arguably equal gameplay. |

I don't see how Diablo 3 or SC2 (which I think is turning out to look like shit) will actually gimp WoW. It might actually empower WoW a little. If people still don't get the expansions are nothing but endless loops of what came before then they never will. ToR will have to be revolutionairy to take the crown. I'm expecting blizz to take ideas from ToR and implement them, as more information becomes known. That's what blizz does best, they capitalize on other peoples ideas. To be honest I could care less if ToR steals WoWs thunder. Aslong as they deliver whats promised and the game is polished enough to enjoy. WoW can keep the #1 spot. |

The reason why Starcraft 2's development has taken so long is that blizzard has been moving it's employees around to work on priority projects. i.e. some of the people who were working on Starcraft 2 were assigned to work on one of WoW's expansions. (read that somewhere recently, actually) So when they finished that project, they were allowed to continue other projects. Blizzard is not making a new starcraft and diablo game because they are scared of losing their mmo market share to a competitor. The most likely reasons that they are making them are because it has been long overdue, fan appeasement, and they never really wanted to stop working on those franchises in the first place. And when is wow's new expansion coming out? Next year? Possibly a year and a half to two years since their last expansion? I dont think they are scrambling too fast. And wow isnt the only game that patches in +1stat better than your old gear for you to waste your hours away trying to get. It's just the most popular. TOR will do the same, just you watch. So my prediction for top mmo for 2012? I dont know. Maybe some huge tidal wave will cleanse the earth from humanity. |

I don't see how you can say TOR will get 10 million players (or to be fair, 3 million in the original release countries) in 2012 based off of 1 mediocare alpha gameplay video. If I had to guess at TOR's subscription numbers based off that video I would say around 100k subscribers. "There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer." |

Originally posted by greed0104 Agreed, i could care less where SW:TOR is ranked by 2012, as long as they put out a game with a damn good story like kotor 1 had with a good crafting system, good pvp i'm happy. Don't need 11+ mill subs or the title "king of mmo's" to make it a damn good game. I have no doubt bioware will deliver the type of game that will keep me playing for a long time, i'm impressed so far and can't wait to see what else they have planned. |

But, the OP was specifically referring to the recently released gameplay videos, which I personally was not very impressed by. "There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer." |

SW:tOR won't be #1 because: 1 - it isn't an MMO 2 - it isn't Star Wars. "" Voice acting isn't an RPG element....it's just a production value." - grumpymel2 |

Look at AoC, didn't they sell over a million and drop half of that rather quickly? I was actually impressed by the video. It actually gave new hope that the game was still alive. I mean gamplay video? No way? finally. The combat seemed pretty strait foward but the look was appealing. Of coarse I cant be 100% sure on that till I get to try it for myself. But I agree that demo really didn't put off enough to make it the next "King". |

Ok, I'll bite. 1. It's going to allow massive people per server, it's multi-player and it's online. Why isn't it an MMO? 2. It's set in the Star Wars universe, it's being co-developed by Lucas Arts. How isn't it Star Wars? "There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer." |

I was so disappointed after I have seen recent gameplay video. For a long time I thought it will be a 're-launch' of SWG but the the video presented sketchy cartoon based on Star Wars IP :( No hope on my side it will be much different from WoW-like games. |

Originally posted by Dameonk 1 - it will be a solo or small group oriented game. I have seen no idications of large group play, and from the little I have heard crafting and other player interaction will be quite limited. A strong storyline does not make for an MMO. 2 - Star Wars is first and foremost about the movies. Other than the force and some location names, this game has no connection to the movies. And it has more connection then you think. Do you think it was just a poof and Star Wars Started the way it was in the movies. There was always past stories, ones shown in Kotor and so on. By the way people are wanting a Star Wars movie in the time of the Old Republic. If that was made what would you fall back on next? |

I might be moron but I am not being sarcastic here :) Truth is I was not following all news closely. And what made me think it will be next SWG? After the NGE, I didn't think they will work on another WoW-like type of the game. Seems like Sony still sees NGE as good business move afterall and they took the opportunity to get rid of what remained of SWG and started from scratch. Pity for some, good for some other. |
