Also the player base that is there are already going to have their clicks they run with on a regular basis. WOW has one of the most unfriendly player bases when it comes to PUGs meaning its going to be harder than most other games to actually be able to find a group to play with if your unknown. Dont get me wrong you will be able to get groups but it will be more unfriendly than say in a game like Vanguard or Age of Conan.

I would recommend trying a different game than WOW.

I agree with this post. I stopped playing a few years ago, then I recreated an account to play again and I created a healer and I couldnt find a group? All I got was sass from people and nobody was helpful or willing to offer a group. I leveled to 14 and quit due to lack of people to play with. Dont waste your time at this point. Just play something else and wait for blizzards next mmorpg

You tried to group for what at level 14? RFC? If you were Alliance you dont group until Deadmines and that's at like 16+.

People gave you sass because you were asking for a group when you could of easily done whatever you needed to do by yourself.  WoW isn't a sandbox game where you group/Hunt and kill shit together, it's more of a solo experience until you need people for a group quests or a dungeon. You could quest together with someone to quicken things up but unless you're doing this with a friend in a guild you wont have any strangers willing to group up for that.

Also I'm sorry but noone is a healer only at 14. It's almost like people just make up shit to down WoW on this forum.

Hmm lets see what game can stand up to WOW feature wise FULL feature wise.. I will state a game thats not even released yet in America other than beta..

That game is Aion. and what does it offer?

PVE... More challenging then WOW. Roaming mobs WOW is so Organized go here to find this mob. Go there to find this Mob. Aion brings back that feeling you had back in the days of EQ1 when you never knew when a giant might come into that low level area and open up a can of whoop ass on your entire group.

PVP.. More engaging than what WOW has... WOW PVP is battlegrounds, and thats pretty much it. Sure you can play on a PVP server and still go run your PVP in battlegrounds 90% of the time. Aion has Open world PVP that actually will mean something Contested Raid Bosses... Its PVP/RVR will bring a an entire new level to excitement that WOW lost shortly after it launched and then started pushing its battleground feature. Aion also has Contested RAID dungeons known as Dreadgions. Where you run the entire dungeon as you normally would however the opposing side has a force going after the same goals are you and you meet in the middle somewhere.

Crafting....Its nice I can actually level my character while crafting, and gathering resources. Regular character level as well as crafting level. This is actually a VERY nice change. Kinda like Vanguard where crafters didnt have to go out and actually level their toon adventuring in order to increase their crafting abilities. Aion has made it where you work on crafting and you will gain xp in normal class level as well.

Immersion.. The main story line of your character in Aion is much better than what WOW gives you. People who have complained it is to linear have only played the lower levels. Around level 25 the game world really opens up and continues to do so the further you go.

Graphics. WOW has laugheable graphics. If you like running around in a disney cartoon I guess it may suit you. Not everyone will like Aion Artistic style but the graphics are more more advanced.

Animations. The combat and character animations in Aion are the best in any game to date. From your clothing that actually flows and ruffles as you move. to general emotes. WOW cant come close.

UI... WOW allows cheesy UI mods, that half the time if you dont use it puts you at a disadvantage. Aion has added so many great UI features you dont need mods in fact they are not going to allow players to use mods that way everyone is on the same playing field.

Content... Upon NA/EU tons of new content will be added to the game here in the states.  The game already has alot of content plus player generated content. from the RVR..Expansion has already been announced due to the fact the game has been out almost a year already in Asia.. Meaning the devs are working hard to keep it coming for its player base.

Engine. The Cry engine being utilized in Aion is absolutely amazing. The game runs incredibly smooth even on some lower and and mid level computers.

All in all Aion is easily comparable and in most cases actually beats out WOW. I realize WOW has more content but hell the game has been out for 5 years.

I could also list other games that in fact are on Par with WOW...I never said I hated WOW.. but there are better games or as you said games that are better in some ways worse in others.

What wow suffers from is one of the worst communities you will find in any MMO.

Yes lets bring up a game near noone has played yet. Once I sub to aion and give it a solid three month sub to test in all areas I can actually discuss that with you. I'm sorry I simply can't argue with a game that's not released.

Atleast I know my OP is right in saying nothing new is out right now that is close to WoW.

Edit: I'm not one of these game haters on this forum, I test games fully before I judge. Even with my casual play schedule I can get to endgame in three months for a valid opinion on a game unlike the rest of this forum that tries a game for 10 minutes and writes a bogus review.

That mentality right there is why the community in WOW sucks so bad.... Also by the time you reach higher levels by playing solo you dont really know how to play with a group.

Get to max level in WOW and try to get a PUG going, and see how well it does compared to a game like, say Vanguard... Not only are people more friendly in Vanguard, but PUGs actually the majority of the time work out very well. Dont get me wrong PUGs can work in WOW to if you can find one. But alot of times they suck because people have their solo mentality. Not to mention they look down on PUGs most the time.

I personally love PUGS, I enjoy meeting new people. This is due to me being a older mmo gamer so the social aspect of MMos I really enjoy. Now there's a big difference between needing a group because your lazy and avoiding groups in dungeons. Dungeon running teaches you how to play in a pve group.

At such a low level you learn near nothing just finishing quests or grinding mobs in group because the game is no challenge at that level.  While many may have a solo mentality, I don't.  I love grouping for dungeons and pvp when I can. This so called level 14 "Healer" sounds lazy to me.

Learning how to group play in dungeons is one thing, being lazy and wanting everything handed to you is another.

I really, really cannot wait for one month after Aions release, when the game falls flat on it's ass in the west, the inevitable wave of complaints about the mid game grind, and how stiff (but pretty!) the combat is.

Not really to late to start really comes down to the people you meet. Personally I have restarted  on 4 different servers as until the argent tournament was added there was absolutely nothing I enjoyed at level 80.

Heh...I don't get to see this in print very often, had to emphasize it.

But seriously, i wasn't trying to start a flame war with Zorn over this.  The OP's original question was asked in the vein of "Is it too late to start the game and catch up with the veteran players?"

What I was trying to say to the OP is that he should start playing WOW, and depending on his experience and available playing time, he'll be able to catch up to most veteran players in 6 months or less.

No, he might not have all the cool titles and stuff Zorn talked about, or earned the great new mounts, but he probably will have a level 80 character with some decent gear depending on which path he takes to earn it. (PVP, Raiding, Heroics etc)

And for some reason, if he doesn't catch up, once the expansion comes out next year, it sort of resets the gear (which I still feel is important to most players) back to even and the OP will have his chance to keep up with the Jones so to speak.

I do think in many games it could be too late to start now, (Lineage 2 comes to mind right off the bat) but WOW certainly doesn't fall into that category.

I don't play WOW anymore, and certainly poke fun at it (OK, sometimes I even troll I suppose) but I would recommend anyone who hasn't played it before to give it a try, could be the perfect game for them. (heck, I got 18 good months out of it)

I think i got nearly three years out of it all told . I ve actually resubbed this last two months to level my hunter to 80 . It felt like unfinnished buisness . I think you d find if you played today you might get significantly less out of it because it really is a lot quicker to level nowdays and much of the game is easier .

My point for the OP and anyone else thats thinking of trying WOW is to wait a year and experiance it at its best because when the next expansions out there will be a lot of people rolling alts . You may even get to experiance some of the mid game content which you almost certainly wont now .

Its a pity WoW became more about the endgame . I always had fun in leveling making new friends along the way . A lot of that aspect of the game is gone now in one mad rush to get to 80 .

Instances and dungeons in Azeroth before moving on to the other expansion packs: BC and WoTLK, that I would be stumped to find someone progressing and gearing this way, yeah?

From what I've read, if you play now its pretty much -quest until 80- and THEN group and raid..which to me seems like it would make you very ill prepared for group/raid.

So it is too late for newcomers to progress and gear up now?  And when I mean gear up, I'm talking about all the COOL stuff lol..not all the boring looking 'greens'.  I'm a fan of exaggerated armor design..but if its too late, I will wait for Aion.

It's not too late to start and progress. The only thing is you'll be playing by your self all the way to 70 and frankly if your a NEW PLAYER I repeat a NEW PLAYER TO WOW. Than by the time you get to 70 they will have released the next expansion. So basically months of leveling by your self. Of course people will come in here, the BLIND OPTIMISTS is what I call these type of people " Oh thats not true you dont have to play by your self blah blah blah.." Get fucking real ive played this game from release and I have leveled 3 toons without seeing a single person till I got to BC Lmao. So BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY THIS. MONTHS OF LEVELING ( IF YOUR A NEW PLAYER  AND DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT LEVELING OR ANY TRICKS TO LEVELING ) All by your self. Sounds like fun eh? =) I heard Aion blowed balls btw. I predicted that. =) Just like I predicted Auto Assualt, And just like many people predicted Dark FAIL.

I played WoW when it came out and have been in an off n on relationship with it. I do love the game and am excited about the new Catalysm exp pak coming that promises to make the old zones new again.  I do recommend it to even new players as Blizzard also improves the game and creates new things to do or discover. I like soloing but also enjoy group play and also find other low lvls to group with for my alts.

It helps to be respectful and friendly to other players when you meet them. Gear is not too hard to come by and you can always get battle gear by lots of War Gulch, Arathi Basin, AV, ect by collecting their markers. Also get some nice mounts from Battlefield markers too. As stated by others finding a really fun & cool guild to be a part of also makes for a funtastic time.

Yes there are the attention starved rudies that say anything in chat for attention but that is what the good ol ignore button is for.  Sometimes there are funny conversations to follow in the different chats that one cannot help reading.

A lot of folks are suggesting AION. I do admit I am interested in it but am very cautious about it as I have tried other MMOs and have been very disappointed.  I have not heard of the so-called #1 guild that is going over there and am not swayed by it. A lot of the older guilds claim this spot. Every time a new MMO release comes out there is alot of flux between games as folks try it out to see if it is the next big thing, the ONE everyone hopes for. I rode that pony and would rather keep old faithful.

Its never too late to start WoW.  There are always up and coming guilds, and despite the community having a bad rep, there are still a lot of good friendly players out there willing to help new players.

Its a good time to start now, as the new expansion on the way will change the world.  And a lot of us old players are looking to do a run through of all the old content and enjoy the story before it all changes.  So its likely there will be lots of people leveling alts :).

Or just start with the new exp.  The world will be changing and much old content will be gone.  With the two new races many will start over to see all the new content, so you would all be on a similar footing to them.

Aion is just another short fad like Warhammer was. Players will burn out within a month or two and return to WoW. See you soon

I am something of a lurker on this discussion. I have been playing for more than three years now and have yet to reach 80 on any of my more-or-less 80 toons scattered over 6 servers and two accounts. I am a hopeless alt-o-holic. I am also something of a Non-conformist.

I recently started a new alliance warrior - soloing and without a high lvl to "TWINK' me - on a server where I only have horde troops. It was lvl 11 before I had enough SILVER to buy 6 hole bags to supplement my backpack and get a few moneymaking professions. All my equipment was GREY or WHITE. The ONLY time this troop died during this time was when my cable internet died and when I logged back on I was dead - by some puke thing that the toon could have taken bare-handed. I picked up a hunting bow early but had to wait until I had the fee to get training. YEAH - I know - a Warrior has Charge - but SOLOING it is often much smarter to PULL the enemy one or two at a time instead of charging into the middile of a FUSTER-CLUCK and agroing everything within two screens in any direction. (Blizzard could improve the drop rate on low level items like small bags, etc. BTW)

One of the reason for SOLOing is that I can take time to mine, pick herbs, skin, or just fish - or whatever - if I feel like it - Without some hard-ass griping at me. I play on MY OWN time - not someone elses.

I do not join guilds or groups with my troops. I have done Dead Mines and Wailing caverns, and other instances SOLO with troops barely over the normal GROUPING levels - mainly because I know the strengths and weaknesses of my class. Like the old Johnny Cash tune says - Know when to hold, Know when to fold up. Know when to walk away know when to run. Sometimes a run from a battle saves a lot of walking time back from the cemetary. (I don't do a lot of running.) My Horde Pallys earned their lvl 30 Pally weapons (listed as 5 man instances) SOLO.

If you do not have a HERD of troops to support you you MUST learn how is the best way to play the class. Carry your own healing (and mana potions) bandages etc.get the best weapons you can get - armor is less important than being able to take out the opposition before he can kill your troop.

The answer to the question is - What do you want out of the game? You can have a lot of fun WITHOUT having the title of MOST HIGHEST GRAND ILLUSTRIOUS POOBAH OF ALL WORLDS and all the flashiest dungeon trash. Start now and you can have a lot of fun.

DOS 6.22 - fuzzy memories...

8/26/09 4:32:06 AM#73

Please go and try the game. It's a great game, easy to pick up and play. I usually play solo, which is easy in WoW. If you buy the Burning Crusdade, the new races are beautiful and their starting areas are awesome. If you start using add-ons, your life becomes much easier, but you may find the game too easy then. You could either turn off the add-ons or come to play in a PvP server! The community anywhere in the game will be awful, one of the worst I've seen, but if you play your game, you'll end up meeting nice and kind people, willing to help and team up for memorable adventures!

OK - so I was wrong about which CW star did it. - they are BOTH good in my book The idea is still valid.

We had a saying in the Army in the early 1950s - he who fights and runs away lives to fight another day. NOT always possible in "FROZEN CHOSEN" AKA Korea.

I suggest playing AION till Cataclysm comes out. With its new Rumored Server PvE Instance Queue and revamped low LvLs, you should find a lot of gameplay open up for low lvls. Dont forget the fact that 2 new races are being added. (Lets hope Race change doesnt effect them)

Also with PvP queue from anywhere and Exp from PvP, wow is going to rock again for lvlers
