Achiement points are useless as a guide, it's as simple as that. At risk to sound like a broken record, the only way to figure out if a player is good or bad is to bloody play with them. If people are worried that they may have to 'carry' whatever person through a raid or two, they don't deserve that persons help and should take a good look at themselfes and their prioritites. Seriously, the gear grind in WoW tend to make people into asocial asshats

What about personal goals and achievements? This forum bitches and mouns about lack of player choice and being lead by the hand and wanting freedom. Well here WoW is with a system that you could completely avoid or participate in. Set your own goals and all kinds of stuff.

We get a system like this now you guys bitch because there isnt a reward vendor attached? that it's a waste of time?

Blah, not only is Cataclysm bringing me back to WoW, but so too are the Achievements!  When I owned a 360, those bastards breathed new life into each game I played and gave me new goals and things to do.  With WoW its the same thing and gives me something fun to do on top of everything else!

Sure you don't get some world ranking of how geeky you are about how many dumb games you rented to get another 1k points, but who really cares who has how many points.  The point of it is too add new and interesting if not dumb things to do for really no reason, but I find it fun and a great time sink!

I don't understand, how is it a scam? 

Maybe someone might have a goal to hit a certain number of achievements, maybe blizzard is waiting to implement a reward system that ties to guild leveling or the Titans system? All I know is that people in game like the feature and that's all that really matters.

Why are there pets in the game or different types of mounts?  Why is there a big moat in front of Stormwind or a lava pit in the midle of Ironforge?

Personal goals and achievements are all good. They just don't judge, for other people, is you're a good player or not thats all.

I found it myself a little fun to go back to the old content and chase down those achievements points myself when I still played the game but, while satisfying to myself, they only said I had the patience to run that instance again, explore those zones again, grind this and that rep grind to exalted and so on.

They are useless since you can't get anything from them but I guess one day, we will, so keep grinding em achievements guys

The reason is because it is yet another Eq ripoff.they probably quit working on them to move their staff to the expansion work,so for now there is probably no work being done on them.Blizzard finds it extremely tough to come up with their own ideas,so it will take some time to not look like they are 100% copying eq with every move they make.

This is not Blizzard hate,this is fact,take it or leave it,this is what you can expect from the Blizzard staff all the time.I would say it is going to be probably another year before you see anymore work on the AP system,they have too much work to do on expansion.Remember that POLISH term so many like to use?well Blizzard will get around to finishing the AP system after they make some more money from expansions.

Many raids and guilds use them as tickets to entry. Given that gear isn't always a good indication of knowing ones class well. Many have taken to using achievements.  Just another "thoughtful" way Blizzard has offered to separate those who have a life outside of the game, from those who don't...
