For those folks who enjoyed (or still enjoy) the original Guild Wars, the news out of GamesCom this last week was nothing short of epic. A brand new trailer for the long anticipated Guild Wars 2 has finally come out of ArenaNet with an amazing vision of the future. With the beautiful, lush work that we've come to expect out of their studio, the flyovers and underwater areas have an attention to detail and a grand scape that makes us want to play Guild Wars 2 right now.

Of course, we're but a tiny bunch of writers scattered across the world. This morning we wanted to ask you if you're interested in picking up GW2 as well? What is it that has fired up your interest? Is it the idea of the lore expanding from the previous games? The idea of battling hordes of Zhaitan's undead minions? Playing underwater? Something else? Perhaps you are completely new to the Guild Wars series, and are interested because it's something new. Or are you completely uninterested in Guild Wars 2, for whatever reason?

Why am I interestedi n Guild Wars 2?   There are many reasons that draw me to this game.  The most obvious would be that it is the successor to an extremely successful multiplayer online game -- one that broke some common MMO guidelines many of the other MMOs out there stick to.  The Guild Wars franchise itself caught my attention because its stark ability to be different.  From something such as the vast skill system to the payment model, there was very little that I didn't like about the original.  That kind of polish compounded on a successor that is touting a much larger world and more content is already astounding -- but what interests me the most is what will ANet bring to the table next?  In my eyes, this game was already purchased before it was announced.

MMORPG Character Monuments

...When its time for your character to take a well deserved rest...

Guild wars was impressivly popular clocking about 2-5million players.

Many liked the fact that there was no subscription

many disliked that it was highly instanced

I wager many who enjoyed GW will enjoy GW2.

Maybe, for the life of me I could never get into Guild Wars.  I've tried a couple times and always end up losing interest.  Still, I'm following GW2 anyways to see what it might have to offer.

1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Why GW2 is so appealing?

-designing character and team builds that rivals the deck building in Magic the Gathering. endless amount of customizing

-one of the best combat mechanics and dynamics found in this genre

-balanced competitive PvP. its predecessor is one of the best non-FPS PvP-game ever made

-guild ladder and tournaments with real-life prizes

-high quality, instanced storyline missions with great plot carried by cutscenes

-the excellent polish that was present in the previous game right from the superbly smooth launch

-very good looking even with older systems

-the "no grind"-mentality throughout the game

-no subscription fee. pay once, play forever!

This. I am an explorer by heart and I love the idea of plundering through another large, well-detailed world.  You bring a creativity to your worlds that is missing in 95% of the content on the market. Keep the games coming.

Absolutely interested in GW2. I loved the original, although wish that it was a bit less instanced. The trailer was pretty cool and I can't wait to see more.

Not for me.

Hey, is it just me, or do the first couple of posts sound like ad copy?

I'll actually take that as a compliment that you think a post such as mine could -- in any way, shape, or form -- be scripted.

I'm interested to hopefully see the continuation of GW's instanced content style; the highly-scripted missions they had was the closest MMORPGs managed to come to the quality of a single player RPG experience.

I also want to see the return of well-designed abilities.  GW1 had the most interesting skills of any MMORPG.  It was always a shame they were overly contstrained by only being able to equip 8 at once (because that wasn't quite enough to make mid-battle decisionmaking interesting for the length of a PVE mission, even though it caused pre-battle decisionmaking to be particularly deep.)

..Huge fan of GW played each new expansion with as much passion as the first...First off LORE...Guild wars may have been one of the first games that almost made me care about lore. The Stories are so rich and while the scenes may not have been perfect, i felt a conection to the game that made me feel like the story was moving not just this was just another mission and I'm only doing it to get to the next area...Second would be the Skills/Combat...This simple system of 8 skills at a time was one of..if not a major selling point of the game for me once i tried it.Even with so little skills the combat was NEVER boring. I remember runing Searing Flame spike groups in Heros Accent (before it became worthless) and feeling so good that i beat other good players(ohh and before SF spike was noob ,i ran other things as well) and this ties into Third...PvP, Guild matches were the most intense things to play/watch (which is one of my fav features..being able to watch replays of the top guild battles) Random arenas were always good when i didn't have much time. Fourth was the Artwork...Pre-searing still blows my mind. It is beautiful even by to days standards. The animations were always good from a simple fire ball to Ray of judgement. The skill icons are very well done and the enviroments are top notch (Burning Forest for example). Lastly there was the Players. No im not talking about the comunity in general im talking about the player ran econ and the people who i played with (doubt anyone from Crimson Phoenix Team will read this) but they really made my experience enjoyable...and i really hope to meet up with some of them in GW2. The player ran econ was great and yeah it was pretty much set up by greed and OMFG I NEED MY ARMOR...but the money sinks worked..but yeah the economy was reset a few times. I still remember when Sup absorbsion runes were 100k a piece.and Elemental swords were 100k + however many Ectos. The economy worked and it was good. I mean a free game this long that worked well with out a cash shop and still works well with a cash shop thats has no game changing iteams...something which i am sure Guild wars2 will not change....all of these things together made my Guild Wars Experience, and with new races new lore to learn and persistent world...i am sitting on the edge of my worn out computer chair, waiting for the day my Charr can step into the new Tyria and keep up the battle and fight the good fight  (or bad)

and thats my story

You know what it is ?The same reason i couldn't get into for long, the IMMERSION.When everything is instanced, you really are playing a single player game, there is no one else there,so you can have a million players on the server,if you enter an instance and they are not there, then it's like having zero players on the server.

I think even the solo minded players can relate to this, because even those people still want to have the feeling there is others in the game,an empty zone all around you is a feeling of empty space, like your not even playing online but feels more like your on your  PS2 or something.

I can see the subsciption model working for MANY,no problem there, but of course no fooling around it is a little sketchy, but not so much when considering a game like AION right now is already making the next 2 expansions to sell those players ,before the game is even released.

As far as the actual GW game,i know 1 was ok,i mean nothing to run off screaming ,it was ok though. However i can give an example of why instancing game is real bad.IN an open game ,players will always be gathered around a needed boss or a needed kill for a quest, well once you enter an instance in GW,there is nobody else ,so that chance of grouping up is lost.

It will be all the players crammed in a small area outside the instances, many also use those areas as AFK areas.Like i said you cannot game at this point, because once you enter the instance, there is no random chance at grouping up.

To be honest, you can get a much similar game in ROM or PW for free to play, both item mall games. So for those playing GW strictly for the cost, they can play the same for free elsewhere.I never had the feeling when in GW,that i was playing anything unique or different,so like i said you can get the same in ROM or PW for a cheaper cost[sort of].

The new GW2 looks like it may have that one thing to make it more appealing to the people looking at cost and that is it may look a tad better than the F2P games and GW1,and they are claiming this GW2 will do a few things different than the norm.

Hmm i never got that MTG feeling when i played? As you can tell by my avatar i was a big time MTG player ,i go way back to the dominating Psychotog days and of course the goblin decks lmao and WAke decks and Slide deck.If GW had that feeling of game play then yes i agree it would be simply amazing and something i would hold an interest in for a very long time.I still play MTG from time to time, only i despise HASBRO worse than the plague.

There has been a few games that try to emulate that feeling like Pax Nora ,but of course no game engine or graphics to write home about.WOW has a card game,EQ now has a card game involved, but nothign that really gives tha tMTG feeling you are eluding to.Turbine actually made a MTG game, but hey it's Turbine i knew they would botch that up.

As to guild stuff i never really find interest in the way games incorporate guild content.I am not one for competition amongst each other and of course i have zero interest in PVP,unless it had as you mentioned that MTG feel and IMO this game does not.

I am really looking forward to GW2. I was a really big fan of GW and love the art style of ArenaNet. Some of the features of GW2 really catch my eye, like a persistent world and live PQ-like events.

I really think that the live events could be a major success if done right, they seem to be really confident about it so I hope it works out.

I don't know, I sort of like Guild Wars. But my big problem with it ws this: I'm basically a casual game player. I'm not very good at game. I play them for fun, not to have to think or put a lot of thought into strategy and tactics (I do that for more important stuff).

Guild Wars was simply too much work for me.

In a lot of games, if a fight or something is too hard, you can just simply grind your way past it. But not in Guild Wars. You can for a little while (which I did), but thanks to the low level cap, probably 60% of the way into the game, you hit it. So you can't outlevel stuff anymore.

And then something like Eyes of the North, the whole game (or xp) is like that. You're always fighting stuff much higher than you. It's just such a slog to get through.

Maybe that's another thing I like, quick, simple combat that is over in a minute or two. But not really a part of GW, it can take a while to kill a mob of enemies.
