If you are not past level 10 then you should not be making posts on the game world. Millenium City is the area you go to after Canada/Desert and it is the size of 2 CoH zones put together. It will remind you of COH too.

Have you defeated Gigaton and exited the Crisis Zone yet?  If not then you are seeing much less then 1/4 of the desert.

The zones are much bigger than the ones in coh if you want to compare it to something. It seems that they use the same type of phasing system that wow uses. You have to do things to open more of the map. Eventually you will open the whole map and have free roam.

The game world is still quite small compared to many other MMORPG's, but compared to CoH the zone size is a good deal larger.

I think the main zones zones are very open and wide (Yes, you must be out of the tutorial zones..usually around lev 9). Of course I think we can all expect more zones to be added as time goes on and the game matures.

The tutorial zone is small...the second tutorial zone (crisis zone) is bigger but the fully Desert and Canada zones are like 75% bigger then what you see in the crisis zone.  Millenium city is just crazy huge...even flying way up high and around part of the area I've yet to see all of it.   For once in a game you can count the Height of the buildings as part of the zone's depth since every building you see you can land on.

If your in the Crisis Zone you've ...well not experienced much of the game.  BTW you can regardless of level go to any area you want even the High End Zones once youf inish Crisis...Try actually traveling around.

btw peopel talking about 'small' must not of traveled around to much or forget to count that flying up is counted as part of the zone's size instead of just the width.

Your thread title "Game world too* small" is a statement not a question. So in essence you made a judgement about the game world at level 9 and said it was too small.

Now if you wanted to know about the game world you should have asked a question in your title like, "Is the whole game this small?"

Posting a title that is a statement is not a good way to get an answer to a question. Even a D level student in a high school English class would know that.

MI and Lemuria are both very large,  I'd say as large if not larger then the desert.

I'm going to agree the world is definitely too small.  Discounting the tutorial zones the game only has 3 zones.  Canada, desert and millinium city.  None of these zones are really HUGE but are comparable to other games.  I've flown around much of Millinium and it didn't really take that long.  They are bigger then the COH zones I remember but thats from playing COH pretty much at release.

I think each zone seems to have only 2 open quests which was depressing since I love the open quest concept.  There are a number of instances but so far the 4 I've done upto lvl 15 are very small and two of them were using the same map.

What's even worse is that the canada zone seems like it isn't adequate to level up nore is the desert zone without a lot of open quest grinding.  At lvl 15 I've finished all the quests that are doable in the desert and headed to canada but there I'm finding a lot of broken quests.  But from a quest lvl point of view the canada quests are a better level.

In general I'd say starting you character in Desert is far better then canada.  The Desert has a better set of quests with better leveling and less quests were you need to wait for something to spawn and compete for access with it from a line of people.  Also there are far more broken quests in canada then the desert area.

So my fear right now is that the game is seriously lacking in content.

You missed two large zones- Lemuria and Monster Island, which I believe are larger than the desert zone. There are also quite a few instanced locations within a zone similar to COH.

It seems more than big enough to me.

Big, bigger, huge... massive.

Sounds like my...

... last fish I caught.

Seriously though, someone want to measure it for me?

This is easy enough to do
Simply run from one end of each zone to the other and record the time in minutes and seconds
then run from one side of the zone to the other and record the time in minutes and seconds
The rules are:
Please use a 'basic character' which is the default character at new character creation = unbuffed by skills, abilities or equipment. Preferably human if possible.
Please run at 'Standard Pace' = At a run (since this is the default mode for most MMOs). Not at a sprint.

Now I realise that to access higher zones you may need a more advanced character - but please try to use the basic character you need to enter that zone.

Add notes if you think it helps.

For example - I have just done this for The Chronicles of Spellborn and it looks like this
Hawksmouth: 3:30 from docks to city wall (East to West).  2:30 from North to South.  Level 3 human Warrior.  20/Aug/09

I tried playing Real Life but the graphics sucked, the community was annoying too.

Well if there are two more large zones comparable to canada, millinium, and desert then I'd say there is a reasonable amount of content and that is a huge relief!

Again, I disagree,  Lemuria and MI I already said how big they were... apart from that, I've leveled to 21 and beyond without ever going to MC.  (I even did it recently in OB) so between 2 zones - desert and canada you can sufficiently level with the content there before ever stepping foot into MC.  Thats straight questing and no grinding. (slow going unless you take the mission item quests if not,  theres always repeatables)

Once you hit 25 and DO go to MC content opens up, you then have 3 areas full of quests, by the time you reach 30 you should be in monster island, which has enough quests to get you to max level... but you'll probably want to mess around in lemuria as well..   There is enough content to level from 1 - 40 and still miss half the content.... meaning you probably have enough content to level 2 characters without getting bored. (not counting PvP)

A bump for this because I would be interested in more info.

I just did the tutorial and got the following.

Tutorial area took 2 minutes and 50 seconds to run from West to East and 1 minute and 30 seconds to run from north to south with a level 3 Force character (if that matters?)
FWIW that makes it about 30% the size of the Hawksmouth + Hawk's Landing map from TCoS here*
http://spellborndb.net/?page=marker&map=pt_hawksmouth

*note that in the quote above it is 3:30 from the eastern edge of the map to the city wall.  It takes 6:00 to travel across that whole map West to East.

I moved on to the Canada map but I think it must open up more as the level progresses?

Anyway, the only reason I am comparing to The Chronicles of Spellborn (in case you are wondering) is because that is the last game I have done this exercise on.

I would be interested in more feedback.

Please remember though - measure on foot - not flying! :P

Just how big are the zones at higher level? I played beta and never got to MC or Monster Island and so on.

Thing is 5 zones is hardly anything, look at other MMOs at launch, they all had more then 5 places to go play in, AoC, WAR, WoW, EQ2, EQ1, Vanguard, Aion and so on. AoC which has more was even hated on because people felt it needed more places to go and play in.

So when you say 5 zones...that is rather worrisome unless the zones are truly MASSIVE and offer tons of diversity to feel like like multiple areas in one. Not just big but we reuse the same textures forever like CoH did.
