What comes out first: this or blizzard's new mmo?

World of Warcraft is a proof that MMORPG quality should affect schedule/budget and not the other way around.

But please people, don't act as though they are suddenly making it into an OPEN world. Because they are not.

Directly from the site's FAQ. It will be the same sort of game the first GW was. Which is good, because after all GW was a big success. ^^

 

Edit: I am guessing the persistant world simply means you now actually get to see people outside of the hubs for a change! But missions/story/major gameplay will still happen where it has always happened. At least that's how I read this FAQ point.

 


 

Or maybe by extensive they mean amazing. It could be one hell of a amazing instance with tons of crap. That could be extensive,

Well, I found the trailer rather entertaining.  I gave the first Guild Wars a bit of time but ultimately found it to be not a game for me.  Depending on how many concepts GW2 retains from it's predecessor I may or may not play this one.  

I guess what I'm saying is that I'm just going to wait till I can actually get my hands on it and play it my way before I start drooling and hyping a product I don't know much about at the moment.  I've been let down before and I refuse to let it happen again.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

A typical teaser trailer, I guess if it didnt leave you wanting to see more it wouldnt be a teaser trailer.

I didnt play GW because I dont like instances in my MMO's. IMO GW is not even an MMO its just an online game. There is nothing wrong with that. There needs to be more online games like GW some of those needs to offer more solo play. There is a huge market for these types of games, and if its filled MMO's can get back to what makes an old  MMO an MMO.

 Nice art.  But no real gameplay.  Just a buch of flyovers showing the environments, which are very very cool.  The biggest question would be, can we actually go anywhere we want?  GW always felt so limited and rail-like.

Probably this since Blizzards new MMO really hasn't been talked about.

I think this trailer has been way better than any other trailer. Most teaser are just a cut scene.. I was going to be surprised if it was just the artwork... but when it became real showing in game footage... THAT was lots of icing on top of the cake.

You might start walking along a road you've walked a hundred times and suddenly there's a caravan travelling along that road that you may not have seen, and you can go help that caravan out."

 

I did the 14day free trial of GW not too long ago. Mostly because I found out it had a Necromancer class. Ever since Diablo 2 I've been a huge fan of Necros, when they are done right. It only took a one day of playing the game for me to get sick of it. The quests I did were pretty basic, annoying, and not inspiring in the least. Also, to me anyway, the Necro class was awful.

Maybe it would of gotten better if I kept playing, but it was just too painful.

And yes, WoW does have allot of basic styled quests, I never said it didn't, but Blizz at least makes them interesting and fun. Like cool cinematic like sequences that will trigger for quests that deal with the main story line, using special, sometimes very cool items the NPC gives you to accomplish the quest. Hopping on a huge giant and controlling him or using a kamikaze unit to kill the enemies for you are just a few things for instance. Not you praise WoW too much however, I quit playing it a few months ago because I began to grow bored of it too.

 

But anyhow, thanks for posting that bit about how they aren't using a traditional guest system, sounds pretty cool. Basically 24/7 in-game events built into the system. Should be very interesting to see.

What about the necro class did you not like? I've found it plays pretty similar to the one from diablo2 as far as minions are concerned. As for damage spells, of course they're a bit different, but the spells for the GW necro are much more elaborate than the bone / curse tree of diablo 2

I think (at least partially) they mean something like what they did with Eye of the North. They had instanced quests that were basically elaborate dungeons.

I don't think they mean the game will be extensively instanced (in the same way as Guild Wars was), because that would completely contradict the whole notion of a 'persistant world'.

Wasn't trolling and I suggest you rewatch the trailer.

I saw no one playing any kind of character or interaction with the world or anything.

All I saw was some carefully animated scenes.

Whether they are in the world or not, what it looks like in the actual finished game is what is important, not some nicely animated trailer.

 


 

Excuse me but are you taking stupid pills or something? that whole second half was ingame footage shot with video capture hardware. Though they did take the time to line it up with some of the artwork images to transition from artwork to ingame footage(which was a nice touch and shows that they made a game that actually looked like the artwork) graphically thats it. the world is still in progress but thats it for graphics graphics are generally the first thing that designers and engineers work out then they build the game from there. And there was character interaction everywhere. Though it didnt show it from a players perspective(i.e. show someone playing) they had players(probably alpha testers) walking around and interacting with the world. The underwater shots incited that there would be swimming. Why else would they spend so much time on under water stuff if no one was going to see it? WATCH the preview again...and dont just LOOK at it this time. Guild wars looks great. I gotta tell ya. NCsoft knows how to make a trailer...just like blizzard knows how to make CG!

It was all gameplay the second half of the trailer. It was even confirmed by ArenaNet. So you are mistaken. What you mean is that you saw no combat... big deal.. it's going to be the character models swinging their swords at stuff. This trailer gives an amazing amount of information and insight. Way more than any other teaser trailer I've seen for other MMOs.

But I'm excited! Can't wait to be there playing it. :)

I agree with you. and the guy who said "Blizz at least makes them interesting and fun. I imagine he never left pre-searing ascalon. There are cutscenes everywhere in guild wars. especially for main quests and "Missions"(Missions more than quests). Play the game again and play through it. Trust me theres more to guild wars than just basic quests...I wouldn't have really tried the necromancer class to start off with. I would've tried something more along the lines of an elementalist. And if you've never played before picking up a mesmer would've been a very bad idea. Mesmers are very complicated and require some patience to master, but once mastered are very powerful. Even to the strongest players.
