Most of yesterday was spent trying to patch the game, so not very many people actually got to play it. Now that we can actually play, expect to see comments on the actual gameplay coming in. The only thing I've been able to test so far was the patcher, which everyone knows is a steaming pile of crap. |

How's that working out for you now? Wonder what you'll be in love with 6 months from now when you grow disenchanted with this one? Or I wonder, will you even buy it or do you just feel important posting like you're your current love's biggest blind fan? That's the trouble with people like you. No, I have no problem with opposing viewpoints. I have a problem with people who can't just say that they don't like something without having to convince everyone else that they should hate it too. You can look at the current US health care debate for plenty of real-world examples :) |

I did like the comic book feel to the game, customization and the travel powers were fun. Other than that I just thought it would be more exciting. |

What Im noticing of the posts is that nearly all of the supporters did not play in Closed Beta. So many "Ive been playing for 2 hours and its AWESOME" type posts. While the Closed Beta testers that have been playing for months are saying its bad. Hmm, who to believe? Someone who has played through all the content the game has to offer or someone who is 10 minutes out of the tutorial? I wont be getting Champions Online. The convoluted process it went through to arrive where it is now clearly had an impact on the game. Also, the way Cryptic handled CoH after release doesnt inspire hope for the future of this game. |

I just played for the first time today for a couple of hours, having already preordered with the 6 month subscription to go along with that. Im probably not going to play much if anymore at all until the 3 day headstart. I like what I have experienced and dont want to overplay it on characters that will be wiped. |

I played last night after I got home from work. Played for about 6 hours I think. I've been playing COH for years and was excited for CO but that was a negative as much as it was a positive I think. CO is different from COH, thats not good different or bad different just different. I'm still "getting to grips" with the character creator. Main reason is that it's just soooo expansive. There are a huge amount of options in there but I still found my self looking for a particular piece of gear or look I used in COH. I played passed the opening tutorial last night and got my travel power - acrobatics and I have to say I was very impressed. Very easy to use and really well implemented I had my character jumping/rolling and back-flipping around the place in quick time and I really like the ability to try a power before locking it as your choice. I'm still trying to define my "look" within CO again becuase it's a different style to COH which I have got used to over time. I do like what I've played so far and am actively looking forward to play again tonight. Tonight however I'm going to try "forget" all I know about CO and stop comparing the two..... see how I get on. |

You realize that's the reason for open betas right? The actual GAME has been very solid with hardly any problems. As a prior closed beta member, the beta forums where always generally positive. Most people enjoyed the game... and 95% of the arguments where generally about two different ways of making it better. The only negative complaint that ever came up that was generally championed by the majority was the lack of teaming at low levels, and that's been somewhat alleviated by the adjustment of difficulty across the boards. |

I love how everyone is just making shit up about the lifetime subs at the moment.... NOTHING is stopping you from playing open beta before you buy one. NOTHING. You have until September 1st to make up your mind.
The game is fun. Which is something a lot of other games are missing right now. You can min/max if you want, or you can do your own thing and try to create story and theme driven characters. Combat is just as exciting as every other MMO at the low levels (not sure about the high ones) and the graphics are actually very good if your system can handle them. I play at fully maxed on 1920x1200 and the game looks amazing. |

Honestly I really love the graphic style of this game. I love the attempt at a single server even if it creates a ton of instances. I like the pace of combat even if it is monotomous. These are the things I like about the game. |

Can you expand on what you mean. I'm not understanding what you mean by nowhere to go. Most of the missions so far seem a lot more varied than the classic go kill swamp rats or go deliver this to that. It also has the nemesis system, which i think is pretty new. If you have any killer ideas, share them. Or better yet tweet them to twitter.com/CrypticDomestic (im pretty sure that girl is the one who writes the missions). |

There is definately good things to say about CO. Frist off, I didnt play Champions long, I played their CB for a little while and soon to begin their open beta phase(the initial impression is what matters). So...the first thing I thoroughly enjoyed was the level of customization that they offered. There are tons of costume peices and variations of costumes that you can mix and match. You can also randomize a costume to get ideas for how you want your character to look. You can also choose to customize your characters entire body from the head down to the feet or for the more casual players you can simply choose a "preset" option of the face shape, body shape, ect.
Now to talk about the gameplay, my first impression with my melee based character is that the auto attack was actually a repeated combo that regenerated my energy. This was definately different than what im use to but I quickly realized how fun and fast paced this made the combat. Also if you dont like the auto attack animations for whatever reason ( I usually turned off mine in sequence with certain moves to see all the other cool attack animations with my Single Blade) you can choose not to use it all the time becasue eventually most melee characters get an attack that generates momentum which in turn has an effect on certain other abilities, most of which the momentum effect caused my other attacks to not have an energy cost or to cause them to regenerate energy. Something else that I found very fun and interested was the different "type" of attacks that were available; by this I mean that some attacks you can charge them and release them for more damage some you simply click (there are other types I believe those are the main ones I've encountered). Enough of that.
Last but not least is the travel powers. I played around with some of these a bit ; they all are fun in their own way and nearly all of them operate differently. For instance, the normal flight is much different from the ice flight (I thought it would be the same but just on a platform) ; the ice flight is a lot harder to ascend with because of the weight of the Ice I'm assuming and the normal flight offers a much more free range of motion in about every direction. One more thing about travel powers that I noticed that was very interesting to me is that, you have the choice to charge your travel power up ( by clicking and holding the button) or you can simply click it and be on your way.....but if you simply click it you will initially run at a much slower speed and have to gain actual "momentum" to get up to your max speed. Well....those are some good things I thought about CO, I think it deserves this attention. Could have added more but I'm tired of typing >.>

Found lots of bugs but its still beta no complaints there but the damn game engine is a joke, laggy like hell, graphics look crap for a brand new game, tons of stability issues, even got crashes during the character creation, I really dont understand where was all the hype coming from. The UI is poorly done, clunky movement for a fast paced combat style, pvp is a joke and not just because balance issues, which are game breaking btw but everyone will just stick to the same powers. Melees are heavily underpowered also, and no option to skip the crappy tutorials. 5 out of 10 from me. but remember its just a beta opinion, things can improve, sadly the engine cant be changed. No chance this game will get past 500k subs im affraid and with Aion around the corner... this game cant compete. |

What can I say I havent had fun like this since Warhammer first came out. Much better then I thought it would be expecially with the poor comments leave about the game.. Sure it could use some polishing up in some areas but overall its a very enjoyable game, and thats pretty much what im looking for in a GAME (HAVING FUN).

Originally posted by daemon I'm wondering if it's your rig because the people who seem to have these issues tend to have older models or ironically high end systems. Cryptic is still optimizing the game. That being said, this game is not like WoW. You really do need a decent graphics card and processor. I think the graphics are great and on a good system, the game is very smooth. I think graphics are hit or miss with most folks. Can't help you with the combat. Maybe it's not your style? Cryptic would be absolutely ecstactic if CO hit 500K subs. Right now they will be more than satisfiyed with around 150K-200K which is doable. And since you mentioned Aion, I'm guessing you are a PvPer. If that's the case, yeah, play Aion. CO emphasizes PvE. |

I like the game alot.. better then aion by far...... Sure i have some problems like its laggy ( but that is due to my pc.. Im running a 2.2 ghz cpu with 2 gigs of ram) Tomarrow ill be ordering a 3.2ghz cpu and 6 gigs of ram.. So smooth sailing after that...
The combat is fast and fluid. i love the travel powers.. better then any stupid ass mount in any other game and 2x better then coh/v travel powers. If you Liked coh/v (or like the concept atleast) then i think you will really like this one. |

You have to be pretty stupid, or a troll, to think this game isn't good. Sure its got bugs, every game has bugs with every update. Just remember the Haters/Trolls usually have the biggest mouths. Play it have fun and ignore (I mean put them on ignore) the Haters/trolls. |

I have been playing MMOs since M59 and I can honestly say that this is the first game ever to turn me off just with its art style. There are some cool things in the game, but I simply can not get over the art style. I have a 4 year old rig and I turned everything to max and it still ran smoothly, but it still just looked horrible in my opinion. But hey, everyone is different and I am not going to blame cryptic for that, because I know its my fault I dont like the style, But seriously, oh man, I am sooo glad I didnt buy that lifetime offer. If your only defense for trolling or hatred is a stupid tag line, Then you should quit life. |
