Oh I could almost guarantee that I would beat you with no Deaths on all 4 of the PC FPS games you listed there. Of course all of them have more hacks then I care to count. Now if your any good in console FPS you'd probably beat me pretty well since I'm only about average skill on FPS in general.

 

With a FPS where the results of the matchs/battlefields are key a console only game is far better then a PC version, Its just the reality of the hacking world. Any FPS shooter on PC usually has a hack written or modified to work with it with in a week tops. On the other hand most console shooters are still relatively hack free.

PC versions are almost always better then the console version but are also far more annoying to play on anything short of a heavily moderated server because of the hackers. Sure they may not be rampant but a single hacker can easily ruin a game for some one like myself that is not a hardcore FPS player.

CCP in my opinion did the intelligent thing by only doing consoles for this, You gain access to a player base that they didn't have before and overall you won't see the sort of switch from the EVE player base anyway as most eve players I would suspect are not really die-hard FPS players.

 

CCP fanboy eh? I know, everything they do is perfect and only in our best interest.

 

 

Because hacks are such a huge issue when I am playing Red Orchestra, CoDMW, CoDWaW, AAO and ETQW in fact it is such a huge factor that everybody is hacking so that I wont even notice that anyone is hacking....true story!!!11

I find it funny how you guys throw big words around like hacks and cracks and don't know sh1t aboutc FPS online gaming.

Wow........very clever move. EvE has deffinetly established it's self in the PC gaming world and the console gamers outnumber PC gamers by a great deal. Making an FPS MMO that will interact with a existing PC MMO could bring up to the top of the MMO list fast. Cheers! Hope they can pull this off as this would be a huge boon for the MMO industry. I said could, doesn't mean I think that is the only possibility. Just a lot of possibilies with this, could suck of course but it could be great as well.

This is a brilliant concept. I really hope they can pull it off.

Their game may not be for everyone, but CCP is way ahead of the curve in the MMO industry on a number of fronts.

All in all, this looks pretty neat and there is certainly too little information to go speculating and getting feelings hurt. Though, I wonder: they say it's been in dev for 3 years. How long has ambulation been in development? Seems I've been hearing about it at least the past couple years. Gotta wonder if a neat idea just blew up into something bigger.

Anyhow, neat that they are doing something that other companies aren't and I'm anxious to hear more actual information about the mechanics and correlation to the existing EvE universe.

Wow over reaction much?  This is a separate game than EVE.  You don't have to play it.  It is a game that is meant for consoles, and FPS's on consoles are very good.  There are basically no hacks, and incredibly fun to play once you get good. 
Why does this piss you off so bad?  You think that the company owes something to you to make every game they release for the rest of eternity on PC with a 100% focus on what Lumster wants?  Give me a break. 


 

 

It is true that they do not owe me anything.......so what? Can't I be pissed about the fact that they sold out?

I doubt that most EvE fans have a next generation console, so why only consoles? Only for the money, sure they are a company but some companies even tho they want max profits do something nice for their fanbase once in a while.

If you cannot see just how much of a kick in the face of EvE fans this is then you are just as much a tool as CCP.

 

Has CCP ever made you pay for an expansion? NO? Geeeeee, what jerks they are. /Sarcasm.

Yeah, I'm a strictly fantasy player mainly and it's the main reason I could never get into EvE but you got to admire what they've managed to doso far and what there currently planning and working on. Little company, Big Ideas.

After reading this thread it seems the only person who really likes change is a wet baby.

C'mon folks, I'm 50+ yrs old, can't play a FPS to save my life, don't own any console games, yet can see the potential this brings to the EVE universe.

Have an open mind, and let's see what's delivered before going all apesh!t over who is being screwed or what not.

Yes, It could be the end of life as we know it. (wonder if the game is releasing in 2012?) or it could be something new and fun.

I might even buy a console finally.

hmmmm i wonder if this will tie into this console version....... i would bet my left kidney on it that this isnt just a console game, but an amazing leap for EVE mechanics/gameplay as well

I have read through all the comments and I like the idea but one question I have not seen yet is;

Will the console players pay a monthly fee the same as PC players? 

If feel that if they are going to be linked to the EVE server and play a part in the MMO universe they should pay a monthly fee.

If CCP was smart they wouldn't

Since Console players will only be getting the Planetary Combat/Rts content I would think a one time purchase with Additional DLC (for a small fee) would be much better and more accepted by the console players.

Also I really have a feeling Dust 514 is going to be just a Free expansion for Eve anyway.

I will say that once WiS and Dust release EvE's population is going to go through the roof!

It was originally discussed in the current issue of EON magazine that planetary control would be an aspect of changing how EVE's player alliances gain control of territory. Apparently, what players can do in DUST 514 will also play a major role in EVE moving forward. Hilmar explained more about how the terrestrial gameplay of DUST 514 will be interconnected with the ship-centric gameplay of EVE Online.

Currently, player alliance sovereignty (regional control) is tied to maintaining numerous player-owned structures across different solar systems to establish a territory as belonging to that alliance, and as shown on the game's star map. Since DUST 514 is set in the same galaxy as the core MMO, with the same planets, EVE players will have the option of contracting DUST (player) mercenaries to gain control of planets.

Hilmar said, "DUST battlefields will dictate who control specific planets inside the EVE MMO. If a player contracts a DUST mercenary team to go and conquer this district of a planet. Then ultimately he will be able to control the planet, and therefore the solar system, and therefore the constellation, and the region."

He explained more about the interplay between EVE Online and DUST 514. Hilmar said, "You will increasingly have to fight with your fleet [in EVE Online] but you will also have to contract people who play DUST, the console MMO, which then feeds into the sovereignty control system of EVE. OK, if I read this correctly, sovereignty control of all 0.0 systems will be totally dependent on the actions of those who play DUST 514. 

Hmm, this could well end up as an NGE-type experience after all.

Wow, the part in yellow seems to be saying that the EvE online players will be creating the content for the Dust players lol. That could be pretty friggin sweet lol. Man they've really got an interesting idea here. It will be 2 completely seperate games that interact with each other. EvE online will be the space combat and Dust will be the ground combat. They will be able to comunicate with each other in some way to some extent at least. And EvE players will more or less be creating the Missions/Scenario's for the Dust players. Thats a pretty interesting idea to say the least. I may even consider playing Dust oO.

OK, if I read this correctly, sovereignty control of all 0.0 systems will be totally dependent on the actions of those who play DUST 514. 

Hmm, this could well end up as an NGE-type experience after all.

 

 

No. Its not totally dependent, it is simply contributed to by it. Its not black and white, not sure why people can only think in on and off.

 

Contracting the dust players is an optional, debatably quicker, but not guaranteed way of adding to sovereignty.

DUST 514 will figure prominently into the CCP Games strategy to revamp EVE Online's system of galactic control, called sovereignty. It was originally discussed in the current issue of EON magazine that planetary control would be an aspect of changing how EVE's player alliances gain control of territory. Apparently, what players can do in DUST 514 will also play a major role in EVE moving forward. Hilmar explained more about how the terrestrial gameplay of DUST 514 will be interconnected with the ship-centric gameplay of EVE Online.

 

Currently, player alliance sovereignty (regional control) is tied to maintaining numerous player-owned structures across different solar systems to establish a territory as belonging to that alliance, and as shown on the game's star map. Since DUST 514 is set in the same galaxy as the core MMO, with the same planets, EVE players will have the option of contracting DUST (player) mercenaries to gain control of planets.

Hilmar said, "DUST battlefields will dictate who control specific planets inside the EVE MMO. If a player contracts a DUST mercenary team to go and conquer this district of a planet. Then ultimately he will be able to control the planet, and therefore the solar system, and therefore the constellation, and the region."

He explained more about the interplay between EVE Online and DUST 514. Wow, the part in yellow seems to be saying that the EvE online players will be creating the content for the Dust players lol. That could be pretty friggin sweet lol. Man they've really got an interesting idea here. It will be 2 completely seperate games that interact with each other. EvE online will be the space combat and Dust will be the ground combat. They will be able to comunicate with each other in some way to some extent at least. And EvE players will more or less be creating the Missions/Scenario's for the Dust players. Thats a pretty interesting idea to say the least. I may even consider playing Dust oO.

Wow over reaction much?  This is a separate game than EVE.  You don't have to play it.  It is a game that is meant for consoles, and FPS's on consoles are very good.  There are basically no hacks, and incredibly fun to play once you get good. 
Why does this piss you off so bad?  You think that the company owes something to you to make every game they release for the rest of eternity on PC with a 100% focus on what Lumster wants?  Give me a break.

I doubt that most EvE fans have a next generation console, so why only consoles? Only for the money, sure they are a company but some companies even tho they want max profits do something nice for their fanbase once in a while.

If you cannot see just how much of a kick in the face of EvE fans this is then you are just as much a tool as CCP.

It isn't a kick in the face at all.
 

The game is a First Person Shooter, it's an entirely different kind of game than EVE, it just happens to take place in the same universe.

If the game was EVE 2 and was released exclusively on consoles, you might have a point but it isn't. It's a new game for a new audience, CCP is well within their right to create games for other platforms, they do not owe you anything.

About the interactivity between EVE and Dust, I'm a bit skeptical. To really make the system work it probably requires a healthy playerbase of both EVE and DUST players. EVE has proven itself to be game with a growing and dedicated community, but DUST on the other hand still has to prove itself in a market that is filled with First Person Shooters. Will DUST have enough players after Halo, Call of Duty and Gears of War have been released?

This won't be your run of the mill spray-n-pray shooter. This is much more than that. Communication and interaction with EvE alone makes it unique and sets it apart from everything else already out there. Shit, even games in the works. Imagine the powerful feeling you'll get working with players from EvE, contracting battles, ordering supplies..etc and then seeing all that take place. The same will go for EvE players. Pretty cool knowing you have boots on the ground flipping zones and whatnot. Name an FPS that does allows real time teamwork on the scale that's being proposed with this announcement.

CCP has this all to themselves and if they can pull it of, do it right, there will be no competition. They have EvE to tie it all together.
