Its set in a completely different time period, introduces new playable races, and there are many more differences I can list. I don't take NCSoft as a company to add a number to generate hype. If it were truly just an expansion, they would sell it as an expansion.

ArenaNet is making this, NCSoft is only distributing the game. How is GW not a mmorpg? What determines an mmo? Lets find out what your definition is. To me it is an mmorpg. GW2 will be more "traditional" in that it will have higher level caps, a persistent world, and multiple races. They are keeping the skill set system and class system I believe though, which to me are the most important aspects of Guild Wars. I personally loved henchmen and heros but many did not. I'm not sure how they are approaching mercs in GW2. |

here we go with the MMO-Not MMO argument again. GW is not your traditional online RPG game, and in spite of this, or because of this, its one of the most successful online game. above poster is right, ARENANET is the developer of the game, not NCSOFT. and ANET is a "separate and self-contained development studio" according to founder Mike Obrien. still holding my breath for more GW2........

The main reason I think it might be a WoW killer is mainly the f2p aspect. By the sounds of it, it will be a great MMO without monthly fees. If it doesnt "kill" wow it will at least hurt it. I think it will deffinitly put up a good fight. Off topic: Wow 2.. would that even happen? I mean with such a big fanbase with WoW, I dont think it would be a good idea on Blizzards part to take a risk with that.
Not to troll but what does it matter if it kills WoW? I seriously dont understand why people want WoW to die? If people have fun playing it, good for them. Am i missing something? LOL
I think GW2 is going to be a killer game whether it kills WoW or not..what does it matter? Well I dont hate WoW or anything, its just that its been the leader MMO for so long. I would like to see a new game take that position. |

I would like to see a new game take that position. WoW is the #1 MMO because Blizzard has worked very hard to refine the game and game world. Other companies could take this approach as well. Most companies release titles that only appeal to a either PvE or PvP audience, while WoW has 'tried' to cater to both player bases. I don't care about killing WoW. I do care about playing a quality game, and I believe ArenaNet can produce that. However it will not be a WoW killer because I don't think that's the market they are shooting for. |

Oooo I'm so excited.. NOT! "How is Guild Wars 2 different from other MMOs? While Guild Wars 2 adds a persistent world, it retains the unique nature of the original game including a strong narrative, extensive instanced gameplay, an anti-grind design philosophy, and strong support for competitive play." Stopped reading there.. |

Hmm that's very old information. Unless you know something the rest of us don't I'd guess a lot has changed in the past two years. As for differences I'd say the skill system, the ANTI GRIND philosophy, original lore. Not to mention supperior PvP. shoo troll. :) |

The current mission system, which allows for significant changes in gameplay or the game world to occur, will be adapted to Guild Wars 2. In other words, you will quest in a persistent world, but when the time comes for something important to happen, you'll gather a party and do the mission in an instance where you won't be bothered and ArenaNet have the freedom to work their magic that could otherwise not be done.
Most people would find that a good thing...the best of, quite literally, both worlds. It eliminates kill stealing, camping and many other negatives that plague many MMO's. But, if you want to shoot yourself in the foot, then feel free to move on to "greener" pastures. |

why are there many players that allergic to instancing in an MMO? to them , if your game uses instances, youre not a true MMOrpg. >_>

Most likely a "safety in numbers" policy |

As for me, I love -- LOVE -- instanced game play. What I do not love is instanced, group-requiring gameplay, which is why I found the original GW so appealing. I never had to waste time LFG'ing, EVER, if I didn't want to. I could just form an AI team and GO. I do like grouping with other players occasionally and/or with AI, but if GW2 forces grouping only with other players for key content, then it will have become like every other MMO and I'll be sorely disappointed with it. I am waiting with baited breath to see if GW2 is as accessible to players like me as GW1 always was. If so, I am really curious as to how they are going to pull that off. |
