Hmm was there a point to downloading the open beta client from fileplanet... As I recall the initial install was only 2gb. And with many people downloading the open beta it looks like the download is crawling.... Looks like it will be a long time to download :( Any alternate way to download the uptodate client? |

Haha this is freaking rediculous. Downloaded around 22mb and just kinda stopped. Restarted it and it is doing like maybe 5kb per second. At this rate I might as well cancel it cause it will never get done. Seriously a bad sign if they can't even patch the game how can you expect them to run a quality game.... I'm really starting to get bad feelings. I knew this would happen if I preordered the game. I think every game I've ever preordered turned out to be a looser. |

Haha what a joke. What cracks me up is how hard they are pushing the 6 month and lifetime subs. Everything you do with this game it is right there in big bold letters. |

hmmm... this whole situation kinda contradicts the idea of a file planet preload... By my calculations I am getting approximately 2 mb a min so my patch will be complete in about 30 hours lol. |

I'm not too excited about this game because of the sub + MT, so I'm not dieing to play. I still wanted to try it, and figured this would be the perfect time to check it out. My patcher has been stuck the whole time. I restarted it and it's stuck again. Oh well, hopefully tonight. I also wanted my bro to check it out, since he's a big comic book fan (and kinda new CoH fan). |

thanks for the spelling correction :) You can be my proof reader from now out ;) Anyway seems to me that knowing the patch servers were gonna be slammed I'd have put a more complete client on fileplanet or built the patcher to use torrent tech optionally or done something like that. At a minimum maybe invested in a CDN like limelight to distribute the code across the network. Honestly there are many options and to have not thought this through either shows inexperience and poor planning or an attitude of not caring about customer experience. Neither option is a good one and both bode poorly for the future... |

The patch is 900MB large, something went wrong from FP or Cryptics side with the position of the files in the pre-loader. there are a dev post in the news section with the work around. |

I downloaded the client over-night while I slept. Download speed was all over the place but by the time I woke up, I had the client! Lucky me!! |

to be honest with you, as i posted in another thread, my theory is that they did this intentionally to stress test the patch servers. Open beta is typically a time of stress testing, and by exluding what looks to be a large portion of data, they inherently stress test the patch server. I agree that alternate methods of DLing would be prudent when the game launches, but we are still in a testing phase. If this is the way they want to do it and it helps them work out any remaining flaws in the patcher, then i'm all for it. Does it suck that we wont get to play till late tonight/tomorrow? HELL YES IT DOES! Then again, i could be way off and they just suck :) All i know if that if suffering through a patch helps them out in any way, then we've potentially helped quite a few people come launch day. |

Not only is the patcher slow due to too many people using it at once, but their website is basically worthless at this point too. Takes several minutes to load pages there, if they even load at all. Can't wait to move to the 3.5gb patch phase (still trying to activate my key, because it's finally up...). |

The point of their workaround was the .hogg files in the folder were not the right ones, and the ones moved were. However, they messed up their instructions (maybe the same guy wrote them?) and thus borked the game. The correct method is to move all .hogg files from Program Files/Cryptic Studios /Champions Online/Live to Program Files/Cryptic Studios /Champions Online/Live/Piggs. In that folder are the same .hogg files as the ones moved, but they are only 65k, the ones being moved are around 100,000k or more each. The patcher was trying to download the same files (like you were installing then patching via .exe to get the full game). It removes about 2+gb of download space, because you moved about 2.2gb into the correct spot. Patch is about 900mb. |

Lets be real here.. If they need to stress test a patcher then they are in serious trouble. God help us when we get to playing the game.... Doing a patch server is stupid simple. It is basically and FTP type server and you just gotta go how many people are going to be downloading x bandwidth to know what you need capacity wise. And honestly they would be dumb to not use a service to do this since it is very bursty... |

Well I just checked and my download died with an error message...
ON a positive note though I reconnected and I'm getting a much better download speed now... guess we will see how long that lasts :P |

This is just the stupidest thing I've seen in a long long time. Game download 2 gb over weeks of time, then everyone at once patching for 3.6 gb. Stupid, stupid,...just plain stupid. |

The work around does work to a degree it shortens the patch to 900ish meg instead of 3.6 gigs. Get ready for it because it just adds insult to injury. Not only did Cryptic totally screw up this first day of Open Beta they posted the fucking fix wrong and haven't fixed it yet someone on the forums found out it was wrong. Heres the correct fix 1)Delete everything inside the Program Files/Cryptic Studios/Champions Online/Live/prepatch/piggs folder. 2)Move all the *.hogg files from Program Files/Cryptic Studios/Champions Online/Live to Program Files/Cryptic Studios/Champions Online/Live/piggs 3) Restart your patcher ![]() Damnant quod non intellegunt
