Sorcerer does much more damage than a Ranger. Yes, a Ranger has more survivability than a Sorcerer because of cloth vs leather, but Sorcerer does have spells to help compensate for that. Also, Rangers seem like a pain in the butt to play. They have to pay for arrows, and seeds I think for traps. A Ranger is the most expensive class to play. The Ranger spike DPS is mostly based on crit chance, so its kind of like rolling the dice as to your spike damage. The Ranger is a good utility class, but if you are looking for the most damage, I would guess the Ranger is on the lower end of the DPS class. |

Not to sound like a broken record since he has been our main source of info, according to Kilkil Ranger's at cap level provide the biggest range burst (not sure if it's best burst overall). I believe he says the Ranger does the most damage in the first 5s of combat but has weak sustained dps. Sorc on the other hand has good burst as well also but more sustained dps compared to the ranger. Rangers are also supposed to be the most fragile class also. Rangers will target sorcs as they have the upper hand... but as a Sorc sins will always target you. I'm not sure if a Sorc has better cc in a 2v1 suitation either. Maybe ranger is better for pure solo than a sorc... but merely speculation. Im sure you can do well with either or. Oh and on a side note im told ranger has poor pve damage (prob cause of the sustained) , and of course they are tough to level. Pledge your support to creating a PvP Community on Aion. Oh common man, haha maybe i'll make it more clear. Ranger has the biggest range burst pvp damage. Ranger is the most annoying class to fight against. You can kite like a machine. It is an excellent air fighter. Im told it gets an aoe or some good aoe. You can stealth. You're the anti sorc. I was only saying the PVE damage was weaker compared to Sorc to my understanding. The 2 are VERY different. Sorcerer has more sustained DPS but has less burst. A Ranger has less sustained damage but amazing burst damage. In most PvP situations you would want to dish out as much damage as possible in the shortest amount of time and thats where the Ranger shines, though you do need a bit of luck. Sorcerers are going to get hit with the nerf bat hard too. They are been buffed in 1.5 when they were already powerful before the patch. Magic classes always have and always will be the number 1 classes to be nerfed/buffed over and over. I find Rangers much more fun to be honest. Even though they dont do the best DPS they have no trouble against any of the classes in PvP. Think less about which class does the most damage and which is more fun for you as in the end all the classes are a threat in PvP if played right. In a PvE situation the Sorcerer will do more damage but the Ranger should NOT be turned down by groups because they dont do the most DPS. In patch 1.5 the Ranger is getting a few buffs that will increase burst and sustained DPS, so even more reason for the Ranger to be considered for PvE roles. |

Originally posted by Lwolf How about this. Instead of playing the "most powerful" class, you try them all for a couple of levels and pick the one that is the most FUN to you? Stop worrying about " the best" it is a subjective term. Besides, every class will get changed/nerfed/15 Minutes of Fame eventually. If you want to play a game based on how good it can make you look then you are wasting your time, you will never be satisfied. |

And again, we are giving the same advice: just try them all and see which one is fun for you. What we think of as fun might not be the same thing you do. You are asking advice about a subject that only you can answer...once you have tried it. |

I am not sure "solo PVP" should be your goal. This game is based around group/legion PVP and not solo. If you try and solo in PVP< even with the most powerful class, you are going to learn quickly that this isn't other games where one class is all powerful. The same was true in DAOC - people always wanted to play the most powerful class, thinking they would roll over others. What they didn't understand is, its not about what you can do as a class, its about how well you can work with a team and how well your team does. "Solo PVP" is kinda laughable in my opinion. |

i asked for advice, not for smart ass comments LOL. Fine. Go be a ranger. Kilkil is one and he is at the top of the game. So enjoy and go play.
Also, tell you what, make an Elyos this weekend and play on Triniel server. I'll help you. I'll give you lots of "advice".

so ill gues i have ranger or assasin i can select from? That summaries almost every class. Some are better at it than others. You have ones that do melee damage, caster damage and ranged damage. It depends on your play style and what you prefer. I am still in the process of trying classes this weekend. I have tried both melee and didn't like it so I am going to try the Chanter this weekend and see if it fits me. The best PVP'ers don't care only about doing lots of damage, they know their classes and know them well. They key is find the class that you want to play and that you enjoy playing. My issue with Aion up to now has been this and this weekend I am going to branch out and try something different. I don't like ranger classes, I find casters too squishy and I hate stealth. So really my only hope is the Chanter or Cleric. The chanter reminds me a lot of the Friar class (from its description) in DAOC and I LOVED that class. And honestly, if I do not like that class, I will pass on Aion for now. |
