Casting magic and using a bow are both shooting actions, ergo, Darkfall has aspects of a First Person SHOOTER. It also has a first-person style of view, except for when using melee weapons, but that wasn't the point of my arguement and nerd-rage. I was making a point that CFurlin was drawing a conclusion that that was the OP's problem. From the way I read it, it seemed to me that the OP felt the PVP mechanics made Darkfall too restrictive of an environment. -------- The most awesomest after school special T-shirt: |

Yes, yes. That particular bit of irony wasn't lost on me when I wrote it, but I stand by my phrasing because at least the OP says "to much emphasis on PVP" (Paragraph 5 Line 2) in his post and also: "i've discovered its anything but a game for hardcore PVP'ers. It doesn't cater to anyone else when it boils down to it.I was under the impression a Sandbox game could be played anyways you wanted to play it.I guess i was wrong there as well." (P1 L3-5). Whereas the control system wasn't even mentioned. So yes, I did make an inference into the OP's complaint against darkfall, but I can also quote from the post to back up my reasoning. You used the part where the OP was getting ganked by other players to back up your claim about FPS, however FPS/Twitch skills don't make you hit harder, they just allow you to connect and avoid more (Caveat: Headshots in some games and backshots in this one as far as I remember, though the opt mentioned neither). What the OP was referenceing was the different in stat skill levels. The phrasing: "for some reason so superior to me that it only takes them a few hits to kill me(NA1 has only been going for a month)" strongly suggests that this is a reference to stats and not twitch (P2 L3,4). -------- The most awesomest after school special T-shirt: |

Sandbox means that the devs create a world that let's the players decide what to do. Players decide what political alliances to develop, what skills and type of character you want and what equipment to build. This is almost the definition of a sandbox. DF just barely guides you in your first hour, just "here's how the controls work," and kick you out the door. This sandbox just happens to be full of bullies that enjoy trying to kill new players, and lacking some of the tools to build the way you'd want. Asdar |

It definitely sounds like the OP should be looking for another MMO to play! Darkfall is *hardcore* (Many people here deny this because they think that by being labelled 'hardcore', the game is worthy of praise.... which is a big no-no on MMORPG.com) and truely is dog-eat-dog. Solo-play is extremely difficult and requires a massive amount of patience (I actually enjoy solo'ing alot of the time - it's like playing the game on nightmare mode where any successful trip feels genuinely rewarding). Anyway, find a large clan that caters for newbies and go hunting in your own PK squad. You'll have a hell of alot of fun! |

Sorry but some games are just not for soloplayers. Df is meant to played in a group, not alone. There are some other games that cateer more for soloplayers, like Wow and AoC. But I also think that totaly free ganking is a bit too much, there have never been a time in history when you just could kill anyone without any consequenses. Other faction is one thing but killing someone from your own place is murder and have always been. And MMOs are bad dealing with murderers. Some kind of guards that gets bonuses for catching murderers are the solution. It would actaully make the experience more interesting if cityguards were players who kept the law. It would work in any MMO. |

Funny, a supposed RPGer complaining about "cookie-cutter target-click-keypress".. give me a break. Do you have any idea why RPGs and MMORPGs are popular in the first place? It's not the "roleplaying", it's the relaxation they offer. It's a measure of tactics, chance, immersion, and socialization that can be played at a very slow pace that RPGs will always offer over a FPS. You can see why the real RPGers are slightly pissed off when it comes to a fast paced dork action pack that they can easily get from any online console title ever created. I'm sorry, but I don't want to speed 10hrs a day to practice "meh FpZ skiLLZ~" just so I can win a game against the ultimate FPzOrzGoinNoWherEorzInLifEz. Personally, I don't see why this game should be presented here, they should get their own site. I also don't blame them for letting it be here just for the popularity, because it really is entertainment.. ahem.. ForumFall. When you grow up, you'll relize just why the old incredibly fast paced FPS formula just does not work anymore (Unreal Tournament, Quake, etc.). |
