I find the most disciplined and best players tend to be the best grinders.  Grinding builds discipline.  Maybe that's why RPG players from asian territories generally outplay and outclass players from other regions.

Nah, not really.  I see nothing wrong with removing people who can't grind.

I love grinding, but i dont think the culture you come from has to do anything at all with your "discipline"

To me grinding is a great way to kill time :) thats all

Emotep has a point, anyone complaining about leveling at 20 isn't ever going to continue playing Aion. It's better to get rid of them before they become a hassle and become a negative influence on a legion. It's bad for legion morale to have members quit than to have them kicked.

I played Lineage 2 for years, I can handle the leveling of Aion, but I can't say that about everyone else.

It still blows my mind that people really think this game will be a mega hit, let alone direct competition for WoW.  After two weekends of this game, I'd rather play WAR or AoC and I don't like those games either.

Grinding is what boyfriends are for, not games.

Grinding is more of a good way to see who excels at shutting down his brain completely for longer periods of time.

Alot of grinding = Alot of bots

Well it blows my mind that people don't think this will be a mega hit when it already is and it hasn't even released yet in EU or NA.  The game is mediocre 1-25, but mid to end game it is really a pretty sick game.  Still though I don't think it will threaten WoW.  The players who aren't mindless drones have already left WoW and won't ever return.  The rest are lost causes and will move between WoW to Diablo 3 to Blizz's next MMO.

Since when did it matter if your favorite game was a complete POS sellout?  That is much more of a negative factor to me than a positive one.

Ah and on topic, grinding exists in all games.  WoW has a neverending gear grind that people keep falling for expansion after expansion.  Grind makes MMORPG's long lasting.  However Aion's grind is not what most people think with 1.5.  Ignorance is bliss though, and it is also entertaining when people on this forum take it and put it on a podium all oiled up for everyone to see in it's shiny oily glory.

Do I really have to spell it out for you?  It should have been obvious that my comment was in reference to the western market, since that is where this conversation is taking place, but whatever.

That's funny.  Seems to me that anyone who plays MMOs are considered mindless drones by the public at large, among other colorful labels as well.  A big part of that is because people see that the majority of gamers spend way too much time in game than is considered healthy.  I bet, if these MMOs had a lot less grinding, people would be less likely to sit in front of the computer for 6 hours straight.  Not only would this be healthier for the player, but would do tons to improve their real life image.

I'd agree that there is some sort of discipline earned from hours of grinding. Focusing on any one task and attaining a goal is a reward all in itself, but don't go patting yourself on the back. Games are still a form of entertainment, which means that there are better ways of learning self discipline if that is your goal in the first place...

Some people take the fun out of games (grind), and in my opinion I'd rather get my self discipline skills from somewhere else and leave gaming for the fun side of life. :-)

Grinding is just practice. Even though it's a game.. you don't get to beat it because you paid for it. You gotta get good at it.

Whereas grinding might build mental discipline, so does the desire to do well.
