This could have gone in the other thread, but it's too crowded and this is crazy enough to deserve it's own thread.

He's standing outside of the town hall waiting for Obama. He is legally allowed to have that gun because it is not concealed and it is registered.

Check out the sign. It's from a Jefferson quote. "'The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Blood? Hmm, what's on his mind. Guess what Timothy Mcveigh was wearing when he blew up the building in Oklahoma city killing 168 people?

2nd ammendment rights, I know. But there are limits on rights. You have free speech, but you can't yell fire in a crowded room or threaten someone's life. A limit on the 2nd ammendment should be that you are not permitted to go anywhere near any president with a firearm unless you are a member of law enforcement.

I'm 100% sure they had constant eyes on this guy, but what happens the next time when 5 people show up with guns? Then 10-20? You can only watch so many people.

If I was in Obama's family, I would be outraged.

If this was 2 years ago, and a muslim man with a turban and a gun strapped to his leg was outside waiting for bush to arrive what would have happened? He would have been taken in in a second and probably added to the terrorist watch list.

Functionless Art is Simply Tolerated Vandalism...We Are The Vandals.

That guy isn't Timothy Mcveigh.

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

So what made him a lunatic?   The fact he owned a gun, the sign or your mindset?

Edit: Also put the picture in context.  When and where was it taken.  How far was he from Obama.   Also can you link the story associated with the picture.

Well considering how this country was built.

I don't see a problem with it, you must remember our founding fathers believed that without a show of arms, OUR government would never know fear.

Governments must fear their people. This was their mindset.

I'm not condoning force, nor agreeing with them however their rights are their rights.

Just because it makes you,me,they nervous doesn't change the fact these are civil liberties.

The more that fall, the more we fall.

As for the muslim man, would that make it right?

Does that justify the effect? That would of been a civil breakdown.

The gun is fine; the sign is in bad taste and is inviting trouble. In combination, it is a really bad idea.

Painted on Rep. David Scott (D) sign not long after a town hall meeting where he supported health care reform.

Earlier he had received letters referring to him as N-Word David Scott. (He is black)

Every day you hear more and more about stuff like this and the above.  How much further is it going to go?

What in your mind SHOULD happen to a guy who is practicing his time honored rights?

That's the thing, if anything SHOULD happen to him, this country has failed.

Stupid or not.

I am not seeing anything wrong here. He is not unstrapping his side arm, he is not yelling and making threates, what exactly about him makes you think he is a lunatic? He looks like he is standing there peacefully exercising his right to keep and bear arms, and It is common here in Texas to see many people with firearms strapped, nothing out of the norm here. It would be a problem if he was making threats, with his hands ready for the draw and trying to provoke people into a fight.  His protest makes complete sense, and the attempt to portray him as " an angry mob" or raving lunatic sadly backfired from what I have seen. He didn't do anything wrong,  when people protest with sidearms here in Texas, it doesn;t even make the news it is so common. LOL

The gun is not the major problem.  The gun + the sign is as close to a threat you can get.

The man, however, did everything within his rights. That, I believe, was the point he was getting at. He was simply demonstrating he will exercise his rights.

By the way, I don't agree with you that the relevant market here is health care. You're not regulating health care. You're regulating insurance. It's the insurance market that you're addressing and you're saying that some people who are not in it must be in it, and that's -- that's different from regulating in any manner commerce that already exists out there. - Scalia

Oh, I agree. I just think it was in bad taste. It amounted to an implied threat to the president at a presidential event. Not something I can advocate.

The key word is "close".  So then you say its not a threat so what is the big deal?

He did nothing wrong. If he gets arrested for anything, then, whether you swing left, middle, right, up or down, then you should be concerned.

So what if it is?

Most protests are mock threats towards the government/whatever is being protested.

Nobody ever reads the signs and cares. Most likely they will be blogged on as "crazy protesters" or mocked in some fashion with witty meta''s saying :

                                           SPELLING FAIL

Sometimes you have to at the very least have the balls to bare your arms. He wasn't waving it in the air, he wasn't pointing the gun at the sign and making mock shooting sounds towards Obama.

He was making his message clear, it worked didn't it?

It got the "governments attention" , something many of us protesters RARELY ever can do.

Once again , the government must fear it's people. If it does not what is to stop tyranny?

Actually, that meeting had nothing to do with health care, it was about a highway project that would tear down dozens of minority homes. That's why he was so upset when people showed up to discuss health care. It wasn't even his town hall meeting. People opposing health care reform just showed up to hijack the forum.

In any case, it's hard to say whether the graffiti and letter were in reference to his position on health care or his position on this highway project. . .or the simple fact that he's an outspoken minority, holding a position of power, here in Dixieland.

I don't think it was a threat, but simply a reminder of the duty of citizens as put forth in the Declaration of Independence:

But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security...

There is a URL at the bottom of the sign, in the spirit of not promoting things, you can type it in.

It gives you a pretty good idea of what he was there for.

Regardless he has the right to stalk meetings like the rest of us, if we feel the need.

Bingo. I have no idea why this escapes so many "rational" people here. Here's the Jefferson ORIGINAL quote:

"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."
-- Thomas Jefferson

Here's this nutcake's sign:

"It is time to water the tree of liberty."

Since he's paraphrasing Jefferson clearly, and Jefferson said that the tree of liberty MUST be refreshed with B L O O D, when this retard shows up with a gun where there is no call for a gun, what is he implying that the tree be "refreshed" with?

Diet Coke?
