So I've been searching the web and researching for a while.

This is the best deal I can find

http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11481469&whse=BC&Ne=4000000&eCat=BC|84|56671|4348&N=4017763&Mo=20&pos=3&No=3&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&cat=4348&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US&Sp=C&ec=BC-EC10600-Cat56671&topnav=

I'm looking for a monitor/PC bundle and I am willing to build my own PC if its cheaper.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I wouldn't, paying too much for too little in my opinion. Here are some of my AMD fanbois suggestions click was written a while back so prices may have gone down a little.

Just off the top of my head, that looks to be about a $1100 computer self assembled with OS, but it's not really an ideal setup. It should have 6gb of ram and the extra cash from that should be put into the video card to step up to a 4870 or gtx 260.

I like how it doesnt go into detail on what in all is in the case, hard to make an assumption but im sure most components aren't performance savvy other than the processor. If you dont know how to build a computer i suggest researching it because for 1200 bones you can build a pretty nice I7 computer. You should Take agricolas mid gaming rig, minus the keyboard, mouse and sound card and replace the 20" for a 24" your still looking at around 1100 ish with all performance parts that are easily upgraded down the road. If you need help I can look later and get you a solid rig for 1200 (using AMD of course.)

+1 on the AMD build but if you want i7 look below for some options

that is a $50 video card

look here:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229107

Or even check www.cyberpowerpc.com   and www.ibuypower.com  Dell too for combo deals with screen

When I checked those sites, I looks like I am going to end up spending more money. I dont mind lowering my ram for more graphic, in fact thats what i would like. However I cant spend over $1300 including monitor. I like the Newegg one but with a monitor, it will go over $1300.

Yes its a deal mainly because of the monitor. The reason you cannot make a sub $1300 with monitor that can compete is because you are probably picking good parts. DELL doesn't use good parts. When you are using crappy parts like Dell it would be sub $1000.

As far as advice on a system. I wouldn't denounce AMD just because its processor doesn't compete. If the processor isn't the main component, then AMD more then pounds an Intel Based system due to the bridges they burned. Intel Chipsets just suck, You will be stuck on an ICH10 southbridge and X58 northbridge. Those really don't compare to AMD and nVidias offerings which will help boost video and GPGPU performance.

If you go with a Core i7 build, you should get the 920. The other processors are just too expensive at this point. A 920 with a cheap mobo will only cost about $100 more then a top of the line AMD machine. From there I would wait until September before picking components.

The AMD 955 is VERY comparable to the i7 920, esp. in gaming.

A bit more "Budget" 720x3   very good OCer, and a very good gaming cpu

With the vast majority of games relying mainly on a video card over the processor theres no real need for an I7 imo. In terms of video gaming AMD is quite comparable then you throw in the extra $100 your saving and thats enough for me. I'll take the hit on the extra 5 sec it may take to boot up. The I7 would be a good choice if your planning on doing tons of video editing that 15 sec here 20 sec there would make it worthwhile.

As the industries shift more and more into GPGPU tasks, the processor is going to become more useless. Right now even Adobe and Autodesk are shifting to GPGPUs so the majority of video editing and 3D rendering are going to be done on the GPU instead.

Not terrible, but absolute overkill on the RAM.  My suggestion: less RAM, and use the money for a better GPU.  The 4670 is okay, but you can do much better for only a few more bucks.  Go with a GTX260 and you will not be disappointed

Thanks. Im not planning on doing video editing, just programming and using the Adobe creative suite. Along with gaming of course. I think i might go with a AMD so i can get the Nvidia 260 card. I was planning on buying that card sometime after I got my computer. :) I'll look into everyones links and offers. Thanks again.

it would behouve you to stick with ATI with an AMD chipset, esp when fusion gets better =P

You can pair an AMD motherboard with a nVidia chipset.

Strongly recommend building yourself, I priced a slightly better system than this minus the monitor for around 700.

newegg.com, but he's exaggerating and/or leaving out a bunch of stuff like OS/peripherals/case :P

Here's how a good PC for that price range and i7 should look:
i7 920 $240
mobo $190
6gb ram $115
HD $80
gtx 260 $175
power supply $80
case $50
keyboard + mouse $40
OS $100
dvd drive $25

total: ~$1100

add monitor ($200): ~$1300 .. this is what the Dell *should* be if it were built right and priced right (however a gtx 260 is not powerful enough to require an i7 so I wouldn't build this way)

The reason I quoted the original dell at $1100 is because it likely has low quality components.. the exact breakdown of that system would be like:
i7 920 $240
mobo $170
12gb ram $200
HD $80
4670 $65
power supply $40
case $40
keyboard + mouse $40
OS $100
dvd drive $25
monitor $200

total: $1200

Now if you just wanted a decent PC for gaming i'd do..
Phenom II 720 $120
mobo $85
4gb ram $45
radeon 4870 $145
HD $60
power supply $80
case $50
keyboard + mouse $40
OS $100
dvd drive $25
~$750

add monitor ($200): $950

This is exactly what I needed. Im going to build it then.

How do I know what size case to buy? and what about cooling ?
