WoW set some HUGE milestones that I doubt will be surpassed by anyone besides themselves.  Having said that, I'm glad that FFXIV isn't going to be a WoW clone, but actually trying to do something vastly different.

Thankfully they did say that they would avoid copying other MMO's however one should read that as "Avoid copying if possible".

Yes, I like that FFXIV won't be too mianstream.  Mainstream usually becomes the opposite of good after awhile.. due to how many it has to cater to :/

I'd rather be part of a community with a million quality players, than a community with 12 million donkeys.

I never played wow, but I watched my little brother play for a few years. /no thanks

Exactly, we just need at least the amount of subscribers to make the game profitable for the company to continue developing for.  And as long as the servers are populated enough then it doesn't really matter how many subs the game has.

Well, WoW is WoW -- FFXIV will not have 12 million subscribers.  Maybe one million and that's more than enough :)

WoW has something like 5 million subs after they lost china. :P As long as the community of FFXIV is respectable I don't care how many people subscribe.

Yeah, I agree. Actually i would not perfer they have the success of WoW after seeing what happened to WoW post year one. Draws in too many tools and the success goes to the companies head and makes them stop trying.

I totally agree.  Too many just makes it worse.

 Yeah, close knit and friendly is the way to be!

Yeah, I prefer that in most situations actually :)
