If Obama was SOE then his new health care plan would be the NGE. He is gonna try his best to shove it down our throats like SOE did the NGE and then try and convice us its for the best.  He'll do this despite the polls saying that a majority of Americans are happy with their current health care, like SOE did even though the current fan base largely hated the NGE.  Also like the nge, if his health care plan gets passed, it will be very difficult to roll the system back to a previous more successful state. Then you'll have EMU's pop up. This will be states like Texas that may end up seceding from the Union.  That is how Obama is like SOE

If an MMO was like healthcare today, your monthly fee would increase 10% a year for the same exact game that's worth only $15.  You'd have to answer a questionaire with things like, "have you ever been banned from the forums in the last ten years?" or "has your system even crashed to desktop?"  Of course, answering "yes" to any of these questions would make you ineligable to play.  You'd have rising out of pocket costs too for things like special loot and potions...things that wouldn't be covered by your monthly fee.  All of these expenses would do nothing for the increasing "server not available" when you wanted to log in.  And God forbid you had a database error that stole your loot and gimped your toon, because the publisher would recind your subscription and make you pay for all the CS you used and levels and XP you earned on their servers since you started, as if you weren't even subscribed at all.

Obama isn't proposing an NGE.  He's proposing a change to the EULA.

I haven't read his proposal, but I guees it involves some kind of free healthcare? How can't that be good?

The majority of the other western countrys have free healthcare for all it's citizens, HELL if you (an american?) came here and became sick you would get free care as well...

The reason why the majority of americans are happy with their health care is because of two reasons:

  1. They have a health insurance, about 15% of americans do not.
  2. They don't get seriously ill so they will never see what happens to their insurance premiums when they do get seriously ill

Health insurance should not be a majority decision, basically all civilized countries provide health care for ALL their citizens as it is stated in article 25 of declaration of human rights:

Article 25.

* (1) Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.

So adequate medical care is a fundamental right that all humans should have, not only those that can afford it.

All praise Obama for being the first president ever to realise that.

That being said, universal free healthcare is not perfect either. I live in Sweden and my collegues friend recently discovered he had metastatic cancer and the doctors gave him about 6 months to live if he does not get threatment. He got in line for chemotherapy and the line was 2 months long, effectively reducing his survival chances to basically zero.

NOTHING is free.

However, it takes away the power of health care from the local government ( state or county ) and puts it in the Federal system.

First off, this violates states rights according to the 10th amendment.  Can you say "unconstitutional"?

Second, it takes money from the states who do have a decent health care system for those who do not have insurance and gives it to other states that cannot support. ( I have first hand knowledge of the system of free health care in Texas. it is there and does help and is a good thing for those who do not have insurance, so do NOT TELL ME WE DO NOT HAVE IT! )

Third, the package they are proposing has not been thoroughly read by most who are voting on it and there are lots of rumors and inuendos flying about on what it does/does not  cover.

Last;y, when has the federal governement ever done ANYTHING that works?  Look at the complaints of health care for Vets and soldiers, you think civilians will get better treatment?

Final word.  This is a gaming site, politics should not be played out here.

Say hello, To the things you've left behind. They are more a part of your life now that you can't touch them.

The opening post is nothing but republican fear mongering.

The proposed "public option" is simply a cheap public alternative to expensive private insurance. It isn't a "takeover" of health care. It's a measure to restore competition to the industry and bring insurance to the unisured.

Here's the thing most Americans have healthcare or make over $50k a year and can afford healthcare but refuse to do so.

Roughly only about 5-10% of Americans (this does not include the 40 million illegals in America) do not have and can't afford healthcare.

So why should America do a massive overhaul to its healthcare system, best healthcare in the world btw, when 90 to 95% of Americans are happy with how it currently is?  Sure there needs to be some regulation tweaks in the system imposed by the government to help in reducing the escalating costs but what Congress is trying to pass isn't that.

We need to find a compromise to support the 10% of Americans who can't afford healthcare.  We also need to come up with a plan to deal with our illegal alien problem.

I wouldn't expect a European countries citizens to pay for my healthcare costs if I was in there country illegally and Europeans shouldn't expect that it is America's duty to take care of 40 million illegals in our country.  If you would like to take the proper steps to become an American citizen and abide by the ramifications of doing so then by all means it is America's duty to take care of its own.

Do not confuse RIGHT with ENTITLED.

You have the RIGHT to the health care meaning you cannot be denied.  Go to an emergency room and you will not be denied.  This falacy that you do not have access to health care is a myth.

Do you get billed for it?  Sure.

Are the costs outrageous?  Sure.

Will the bill they propose limit spending or costs? No.

Will the bill they propose limit lawsuits?  No.

Will the bill do anything to lower the cost of heal care? Who knows?

Will it end up costing taxpayers of every level?  You bet it will!!!!

Will health care suiffer for this?  You bet it will!!!!!

Why do people come to the US yearly for treatment?  Why is the Crowned Prince of Saudi in a US hospital and not being treated in his own country?  Simple, you want the best health care you go to the best place.

So what happens when the public option is way cheaper than what private insurance companies can provide?

I'll tell you what happens the government does not care about working in the red, private companies do not have that option they have to be in the black or they go belly up.

Eventually everyone is in the public option, because any logical person is going to get the best deal they can and there will be no more private insurance companies.

Think, what does this then lead to?

First of all the Healthcare plan is good... I had to join the military to be able to afford decent healthcare (It's free for us). I mean come on... I have fractured bones I let heal on their own so I didn't have to be in debt with medical providers... If you could run a country you would be rather then talking about what those that do are doing wrong before you even see it play out. Secondly... Obama could open fire with an AK 47 on a school every week and still be a better president then Bush was... who ran the country to s*** for 8 years.

This made me laugh. Out loud.

How is socialising healthcare restoring competition? How can you have confidence in a proposed "plan" that no one has even taken the time to read? Democrats are too busy trying to shove this BS down the American citizens throats instead of going over this load with a fine tooth comb to weed out all crap and get down to what will actually work.

All hail the second coming of the Messiah, here, take my wallet.

Just because something states you have a right to it doesnt mean you will automatically be handed it free of charge. I have the right to life, liberty, (and in the original draft) the pursuit of property. That does not mean that I am givin a house to live in for free...Or that I can just go toting a gun around at will...

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

Having the right to something implies that it is readily available. For example: the right of free speech does not mean that you have free speech if you can afford it. Same with housing and food etc otherwise the whole declaration would be pointless if you added if you can afford it to every article.

US health care system is extremely good but only if you can afford it. A large portion of US citizens cannot and hence suffer for it.

EDIT:

It is even mentioned in article two that people are entitled to all these rights:

Article 2.

* Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs, whether it be independent, trust, non-self-governing or under any other limitation of sovereignty.

Once again you need to get your facts straight, yes medical care is very high but no one is denied healthcare in America.  Also, as long as you are paying your medical bills regularly there is nothing that the hospital can do to you.

I had a major problem with my intestines when I was a baby and had to have surgery my mother did not have insurance at the time but the surgery was done anyways, life and death situation.  My mother paid $5 a month on the bill and there was nothing they could do to her, nothing.

Americans are not denied healthcare!

I had a major problem with my intestines when I was a baby and had to have surgery my mother did not have insurance at the time but the surgery was done anyways, life and death situation.  My mother paid $5 a month on the bill and there was nothing they could do to her, nothing.

Americans are not denied healthcare!

If you cannot afford it then you are denied to it.

If I go to a shop and the food costs 10x my month salary then I am effectively denied from getting access to that food. Having someone so expensive so that a large portion of people do not have access to it is denying them from it.
