Cryptic Studios will be offering a six month and lifetime subscription for Champions Online. Users who pony up for a six month subscription in advance receive a 33% off discount vs. a monthly subscription, as well as an Art Deco costume set, and most notably, access to the Star Trek Online closed beta test which begins later this year.
The high rollers, on the other hand, who can really afford to take a leap-of-faith, can opt for a lifetime subscription, which will offer all the same goodies that the six month subscription nets you, and more:
As I don't have a pre-order key for Champions Online, I do not know the pricing for the lifetime subscription. If you've got the details, let us know in the comments below! UPDATE: Lifetime subscriptions will run you $199. The exclusive specials website can be found here. Got your pre-order key? Enter it at the Champions Online pre-order site! Michael "MikeB" Bitton |

My only problem with this offer is that it expires on August 31st, before the game is even shipped. |

Personally 199 is just to much the game would have to be beyond bleeding awsome for me to want to spend that much even though the perks are pretty nice. It offers more than the life time sub for DDO / Lotr did but ...eh...well..Only if the Beta blows my mind will i consider it and hopefully they'll offer it for a while. |

Yay, let the costume sets galore begin. That's a cool discount on the 6-month subscription though, now if it didn't have an item mall... |

200 isnt that bad for lifetime considering that for 15 bucks a month for 12 months is 180 plus the 50 box fee = 230. |

Most MMOs out right now can't hold a player over 6 months, so its not a good deal unless its a great game. |

interesting way to choose people to beta STO (sad, but interesting) there is certainly great interest in STO and this way those that really, really want to get into the game as soon as possible can do so by paying their way into beta well, STO anticipation just went down a notch for me maybe it is just me but this whole thing seems to read that they really don't have a lot of faith in Champions Online
hopefully lifetime subscribers will also be getting a nice handful of "cash shop cash" to make up for the fact that this game will be going totally ftp within a year |

i pre-ordered this game already for 57 bucks. cant say that theres any chance in hell im going to pay for a life-time subscription right off the bat without having played it. now these new deals to me sound like greed vs the item mall. this game has to come out the gate screaming in order for me to pay for a lifetime membership. with the track record of the past mmos ive played at release, this option gets filed in the "no chance in hell" pile. |

I don''t have to know how to make a better game, I only need to know where the "CANCEL" button is! |

Hahahaha...I could smell this coming on the wind! How many months did those Hellgate Founders get to play for their 150 smackers before Roper turned out lights and skipped down the road? Now it's a sure thing where the Item Shop idea came from. Nice try, Bill. NO SALE!!! Dang those are still good offers. i am running a dcuo fansite and i wanted to try champions-online since i want to check out the competiton. i know what cryptic can do, so that $199 offer i would so be over that. heck i spend like $180 a year on ffxi so 199 for a lifetime, is like winning a lotto to me. This is a great time for MMO fans, no doubt!

I'm gong to do what I did with CoX, listen to my own opinion only and not go with the crowd. I also thought WAR was a great game, so people opinions on MMOs mean crap to me.

Most MMO's do NOT offer lifetime subscriptions. You know what the benefit of a lifetime account it? Quite simply if you ever get bored you can just stop playing and do other things. When you feel like playing again you just login. I have a lifetime founders account with Lord of the Rings online and I play a month here.. take a month off and then I play another month of so. With the other MMO's you have to resubscribe and pay again. I paid a one time fee of 199.00 for LotR:O and I have been with the game since it came out. Lifetime subscription plans are a heck of a deal.

Lifetime subscription plans are a heck of a deal. I agree. People get tired of MMOs so quickly because, more often than not, they burn themselves out. Yes, the feeling of playing a new game that you enjoy is great, but they blaze through the content so quickly that they have time to easily become bored. Going at your own pace with a lifetime sub, having chances to take months off and play a couple of months if you feel like it, is a great advantage. You can pony up $200 for a new piece of hardware. At least the lifetime sub won't have to be replaced, unlike that hardware. Still, I think the labeling just scares people away. "Well, I don't think I'll like this game very much... or, I don't know if I'll like it, do I really want to pay a lifetime sub for it? A lifetime is a long time..."

Haha so true. I got so lucky with hellgate paying the 10 bucks for the sub right before they closed anymore subs so I got to play sub content until it closed 3 months later. I have to say that they are offering quite a bit in this deal but theres no way I would take it after failship. Just think of all the money they are going to make with preorders and 6 month subs before the game even releases, plus giving out beta keys to another one of their games...it's almost as if they have no further plans for the game. I'm sure they will make good money off of the micro payments and this crazy offer but between Roper having a role in this games development and the hellgate situation...No deal! Make games you want to play. |

True. I've wanted to EQ2 again for a long while now. I read about the updates regularly, and I know that a lot of interesting changes have been made, but I can't bring myself to pay again just to check them out, knowing that I don't have much time to play. I didn't even play a year of EQ2, so a lifetime sub would have cost me more, but if I had one, I'd have played more. Same with City of Heroes (where I did play for over 4 years). I dropped my sub because I didn't feel like paying $15 for an hour of play a week or so. A lifetime sub would let me get in when I want. That said, I'm not going to pay $200 for a game I haven't tried. |
