I hate that various game companis are doing beta tie-ins with file planet. I don't want to sign up for their service to get into a game beta.

I remember when they announced it was going to be shut down I was actually happy... i rarely if ever use it. ive gone to fileshack where i get up to 2.5mb/sec downloads and for free too boot. the main issue i have with fileplanet your forced to pay for their downloads, yeah could go free, and get a crappy queue where ur waiting in line with like 100+ (1 hour-2 hour wait ) but to be forced to pay to get access to a beta?? seriously? thats just nickel and diming people. 3.4ghz Phenom II X4 965, 8GB PC12800 DDR3 GSKILL, EVGA 285 GTX 1GB, 640GB HD SATA II, BFG 1000WATT PSU. Very nice! I've been a paying Fileplanet member for years, and it saved me tons of cash from all the Beta's you get into. Well worth the cost. |

Cheap tactics..... I never understood why we have to pay for a beta since betas are here to test rather than play... |

It's can't be considered an "open" beta if you have to be a subscribing member of a third party company to get in now can it?
Don't know if you can run it? |

Exactly, that is why they get/buy beta accounts to hand out to subscribers. So that you have to pay for it anyways. Same as to say you get a free drink in the shop but you have to pay entrance fee to get in and get your free drink. Makes me think about a song accually. www.youtube.com/watch |

Yeah, the only reason I used it was because they had some deal With Comcast where you got the Subscriber benefits free, hated it, but at the same time its hard for me to really say no to free. |

Okay, this is ridiculous. How "open" is a "limited numbers", "only guys who paid for some crappy service beforehand" beta, really ? No sh*t, Cryptic really chained failures of PR with this beta. If I wasn't already sold to this game, I would consider not even trying it. (I mean, if that's how they manage their community, what does that tell us about their dev team ?) |

Second, Cryptic didn't only use Fileplanet. They gave away 10,000 keys through Gamerzines, for free. That's how I got mine. 60,000 keys from that and Fileplanet combined, plus, most likely, more from other places I don't know about.

All of you complainers are amazing me right now.
Cryptic needs to be able to get thousands of clients out. Do they do it in house? hell no...that would cost them alot of bandwidth money.
So they tell Fileplanet....can we use your servers? Fileplanet says...sure...but we need an exclusive on it.
Since Fileplanet YEAR membership is so cheap...Cryptic says. "No way will people be THAT much of tightwads" and agrees to it.
Low and behold....the tightwads have spoken. Personally I think its a good thing...if you guys are seriously complaining about 86 cents a month or whatever it comes out to be...then you probably are going to have a hard time affording your raaman noodles when it costs $15 a month for Champions subscription. Move back in with your parents!...or if you are already there.....ask for an increased allowance.

Yo, read me again. I told I'm buying the game anyway, I trust Cryptic that much that I'm trying their game no matter what a magazine or any fellow gamer may tell me about it, so frack that bit about me being cheap. What annoys the hell outta me is that I and a crapload of other impatient gamers signed up on the very day the beta signup came online, only to be ignored for whatever reason we still haven't been told. That is NOT a good way to treat your prospective customers. Mind you, they could have taken 60k names out of that list for arbitrarity's sake, told me "sorry you didn't make it" and called it a day, I would have been annoyed, but much less than them trying to sh*t us into believing that they can not put a tracker for the client if they really wanted to save the bandwidth, or that they didn't have enough people who applied for the beta in the first place or whatever. (still yes, the numbers thing bugs me a little, I mean, aren't they stress-testing the game anyway ?) |

As far as the way to make money.....Cryptic is making nothing on this...Fileplanet is...they have no relation to Cryptic.
