I see other posters disagreeing with the OP. I see other posters giving their opinion of the topic raised by the OP.
Once again it seems that some on this forum mistake disagreement and differing opinion for "Flaming" and "Trolling". Perhaps the whole notion of an internet forum and how it generates differing opinions is a foreign concept. Oh well... maybe they'll catch on in time. |

Just an F.Y.I.: It's a forum on the internet for a game... not a life and death situation to get worked up over. Take a deep breath... Relax. |

It's ok to disagree, but don't call me an Aventurine bot. That's just silly. And yes, the game is hardcore because in order to level skills you have to Grind like nobodies business. I don't cheat in MMO's and use apps and scripts to get the edge. That would be like me fighting an MMA match with a roll of quarters in my hands because I NEED that edge to succeed. Problem is, with our current youth in gaming, everyone looks for the easiest way to accomplish anything at the expense of ethics and often morals. If you use macros and hacks for games, you are just another internet weakling that has proven incapable of standing on your own two feet and years from now in your 30's when you are sucking down Mt.Dew in your mothers basement, still a virgin and wondering where you went wrong, know that it was because you didn't have what it took to accomplish things the right way and this is your reward for failure. See you in game! www.mmabigshow.com |

Everyone else in the thread seems like they've been doing a pretty good job at being civil. |

Originally posted by Hammertime1 Requires? Nothing is making people macro. It is a choice, and not one that I have made. I've been playing since release and have probably gotten through about 50% of my character's development. Sure I may lose a 1v1 against someone who macros, but I am in a clan, we roll out in groups, and fight when the numbers are even or to our advantage. So what if you die. It's just gear and it's all easily replaceable. I compete successfuly and I enjoy the game. |

MMOs require more reasoning and imagination than most stereotypically ''adult'' activities. |

So... Doing something other than playing the game for 26 hours a day to level up = you'll be a 30 year old virgin living in your mom's basement? Your logic is obviously far beyond me. |

I have to ask, how did you come to that conclusion as to what the OP is implying?
The only confusing part for me is that while Mogus made the quoted statement, in his initial post he made this statement. "I'm going full mage, heading to being a Necro, just because NEC's are my thing and grinding level points is harsh. It's something I do in my spare time or while I'm doing other things on the other computers.
The two statements seem to be contradictory.

QFT. Yet oddly enough I still would not describe DF as hardcore. Its just too simplistic. The risk, loss and reward is there (sotr of) but it the global banking and knife fights that just me make think... hmmmmmm. Probably because both are prime features of suspect dumbed down gameplay. |

Indeed macro/exploit is not hardcore at all. I say all so called top players DF are carebears they afk-macro everything and exploit like crazy. Blood walls everywhere, they even make special bloodwall clans on euro server WTF:( Its a shame that AV dont see this and let the game going down the drain:(

Lol once they add a skill cap, and believe me its, incoming, all these macro'ers and 16 hour a day game playing kids will cry hardcore.
I love dfo, but I indeed think the immersion is lacking extremely, But I will still play, until MO will become a great game(if it does, it wont be til Q1-2 2010 or more judging by beta.) |

Harcore is nothing more than a term used to make one nerd feel superior to another nerd. Frankly its ridiculous on so many levels. MMA? Id say thats hardcore. A soldier fighting for his country? Hardcore. Getting arrested during a demonstration? Hardcore. Hell flying down the side of a mountain on skis going 50 mph. Hardcore. What do all these things have in common that makes me think hard core? They put your health and well being at risk. Sitting on your fat pompice ass trying to pretend you are better than everyone else in a video game? the farthest freakin thing Ive ever heard from "hardcore".
Hardcore is a term created by non creative writers who were unable to communicate their ideas, so they create terms to explain terms that explains terms that is suppose to explain something but unable to come across short of creating another term. Hardcore is a term created by someone who was unable to show the world how "different" "significant" "superior" he is using the conventional tools of measure or comparison, so he created his own label and convenient placed the label on himself, preteniously believing that everyone agrees with him. Emperor's new coat, self created or imagined. Hardcore is a term used by gamers who find the need to make his gameplay a significant part, not only of his life, but of his social esteem. Hardcore is a term used by some people who has no other way to establish his worth, but through playing or talk about playing games in a way he thinks is more significant than the way others play games, same or different games. Hardcore is everything except what the term user himself believes to be. Hardcore as a term is used by people who is not "hardcore" enough to live on his own terms without constantly reminding people that he is "hard core". Hardcore is? Nothing. |
