I recently got into the beta test for this.. after playing a bit and having nasty lag, I gave my feedback and moved on. Not much testing I can do if lagspikes keep me from really playing.

Time passed, I get an email saying how there's going to be a stress test. Even laggy, I figure I can help with this, so I open up the email, read the first line, and am taken aback.

"From 8:00 PM - 11:00 PM Eastern on Monday July 27, 2009, help us push the limits of the new DDO Store and enjoy special sales on DDO Store items and limited Turbine Point price reductions throughout the evening! See below for details as well as other scheduled events for the evening."

Their stress test is a sales pitch? Maybe it's just me, but it strikes me as a low down, money grubbing move to have people help you test something by spending their money... which goes into YOUR pocket. Hey everyone, I need you all to help me test the integrity of my wallet by giving me cast to stuff it with.. a little help please?

I normaly don't comment on this stuff, I know that Turbine is a company and their goal is to make money. But I couldn't let this go by without saying something... It goes above and beyond the call of greed and leaves a very sour taste in my mouth. If you are enjoying DDO and have no problems with this, great. Enjoy the money pit they're turning it into. I'm walking away.

Wow. I just don't know what to say. Are you the cheapest of the cheap and the whiniest in town? I mean your getting to play a game that costs millions of dollars to develop and they decide to give it to you free, and you want to cry that they are having a sale on items in their store? Usually I try to keep some manners and cooth in my posts, but you are just completely retarded, and the fact that you even posted this amazes me that you would choose to make that public knowledge.

Huh?  They give you a pile of free Turbine Points when you make your beta account - spend those.  No one needs to use real money to help with this stress test.  Stop digging for conspiracy where there is none.

The store is part of the new game. They do need to stress test it even if it seems poorly done. Maybe the best way would be dump a load of points on people and let them buy some items with no real cash.

They are giving it free because it failed to make money as a pay to play game. Stop making it sound like Turbine is doing this out of the goodness of their hearts. You just made yourself sound like what you accused the OP of being. But I guess you wanted to make your own shortcomings public knowledge.

I mean each time they stress test add more points for everyone. Are they doing that or was it a one time thing?

Welcome to the F2P genre, where events are incentives to spend more in the item mall, and where whining is unacceptable - the game is virtually free for you, like it or gtfo, no one said you have to spend $100/month besides the cool shining equipment and the +XX% numbers calling out for your money.

They're nor forcing you to buy anything are they? It's just advertising which is everywhere you look these days. TV, magazines, internet, all have "sales pitches". /Shrug

Havnt you heard? This is the new, pay us to let you test our game era. Considering its going FTP you are obligated to buy something from the cash shop to pay for the honor of testing their new game concept. Sour taste is right and not just for this game but for the way the whole industry is turning.

i like how you forgot to add that they are giving away 5 ati 4890 video cards, and 10 signed posters i think it is, as prizes for just helping with a stress test. plus, it's not like your paying a monthly fee to stress test their systems like so many other mmos. oh, and they give you 1500 points to spend during it as well..... where the hell is the problem??? you act as if their mortal online asking people to buy a full game, long before the beta is complete, or darkfall for well being crap.

Edit: Erg - forum ate my formatting.

@Rokurgepta:

"I mean each time they stress test add more points for everyone. Are they doing that or was it a one time thing?"

This is the first store first stress test AFAIK.  I never spent any of my original stipend of  Turbine points, so still have the $20 worth that they gave me for getting into the beta.

While they are not adding points specifically for this stress test, they are selling them for cheap, and any points you use will be reimbursed when the game leaves beta.  So if you like the game and think you're going to play it after beta, then this is a potentially excellent deal.

Here's more from the email that the OP is quoting:

Get More Bang For Your Buck!

We'll be running a special "lightning sale" on Turbine Points, where the Points will be available at a special price for a limited window during the evening. Turbine Points you purchase during beta will reimbursed on your DDO account when DDO Unlimited launches in August! It's a great time to get a good deal on Turbine Points just for being a beta participant!

Throughout the evening we will be running special limited-time sales on select DDO Store items!

Win Big In Beta!
Beta players may log into Lamannia for a chance to win one of five AMD Radeon 4890 video cards or one of ten DDO posters signed by the Turbine team! All players who log in and play between 8 PM EDT and 11 PM EDT will be entered to win (subject to the terms and conditions).

Anyways - the main point is that you don't need to spend a cent to participate in the stress test; but if you do you're getting a crazy-good deal.

Except of course DDO is three years old and many of the people in beta have been paying 15 a month for 3 years to test a game to this day. So everything you said fails to apply to DDO. Have a nice day.

I know they had one a couple weeks ago where they stress tested the points for cash part of the store, but did not hear if it included the buying of items at that time.

ddo might be three years old, but they are stress testing new servers.... so the people who have been playing, for three years, haven't been paying to test a game, they've been playing a full release. so, enlighten me as to how everything i said fails to apply to ddo. they are giving away video cards and posters, 1500 points for being in beta, and you are stress testing their new hardware.... hmm... seems to apply very nicely to me...

You are missing the point. Here I will type it slowly. Everytime they stress test they should give more points so peoplke who have spent them do not have to spend money in beta. Is that clear enough for you? I was not trolling, but you clearly seem to be.

You said its not like you are paying to stress test. But people are paying to stress test. You said you are not paying a monthly fee like other games but people are. See your mistakes yet?

no, people aren't paying to stress test. they have an account, they are paying for their account, they can stress test on the beta server if they want, or, they can play the game they have been paying for, and not worry about the stress test, since it applies only to the beta server. i can't play on the main server with my account, i can only play the beta client, as thats what i'm in. you generally seemed to be mad, at the least despicable act a mmo company has ever made. do you see "your" mistakes yet?
