It seems that over the last few months online there has been tons of rage over TOR, and the way the game is being designed; I.E. Story based not sandbox. My question to the community is why? Why are you dissapointed in the way the game is turning out. If you're a Star Wars Fan (the target audience) you'll be getting your favorite IP turned into an MMO; And not just any MMO one designed around story and intrigue with an engine that looks amazing and with characters that are fully voiced. If your a fan or RPGs, your getting a game designed by the single greatest company in the buisness (bioware) and are going to get the expirence of a life time. The only crowd that leaves are the WoW-esque MMO fans, who tend to like grind based gear gathering and repetitive instances (a niche already filled by WOW). And the SWG Vets (who are not, star wars fans in the strictest sense) who prefer well, SWG a games that already exists. So the question I post to all of the future SW:TOR community is "what could they do differently to please you?" Blizzard uses WOW to harvest hours played into bottles so that the dev team can remain immortal |

lol Nice sig.
The only problem I have with the game is that they're aiming too high. |

BioWare has always delivered on anything they've promised. They do what they say they will do. This game is going to be epic. |

It's so nice and refreshing to finally see a post about SWTOR that is NOT a bitch and moan fest about what the game isn't doing to please the whiners or about how it's going to fail. I agree with just about everything you said, and I myself am very excited for this game and have a lot of faith in Bioware. I don't understand the idiots who expect a developer to cater to every single one of their needs, and in the event that the developer doesn't, the game has automatically boarded the fail train. If you don't like it, GTFO. One of my biggest gripes is people who somehow missed the whole part on choice and consequence in this game, and label it as being linear. Being told to go kill 20 rats is linear. Being given the option of either killing 20 rats or capturing 20 rats and taking them to another location where they won't bother the populace is not linear. This is exactly what Bioware intends to do. They had even given examples in interviews of one starting quest where you have the choice to kill a ship's captain or let him live, and each choice opens a different scenario and different ending, plus I'm sure it will also affect your character's development somehow. I don't understand how the crybabies can find this to be linear. Anyhow, I guess I missed the target of the OP's subject matter, as I don't have any hate for SWTOR, I just have a lot of discontent for the people that are qq-ing about the game not being what THEY want and being destined to fail. |

I want more to do than just "exciting Star-Warsy" combat. A game with depth, and freedom, in other words. This is simply another step toward over-simplifying and consolising MMORPGs. Have you seen the Smuggler's cover system, for example?? It TELLS you with little icons where to take cover....you're on rails the whole time, with pre-designated courses of action. Any choice is purely an illusion, and any there can be no freedom in this type of game. I am pretty much predicting that any space combat, if it's even included, will be more like Star Fox, or some other rail shooter. Why the hate?? Because for years we speculated on how AWESOME it would be to have a Star Wars MMORPG set in the Old Republic era....only we were envisioning a REAL MMORPG, not a glorified console game. We're pissed because there will NEVER be a true Star Wars MMORPG as a result of TOR. The potential is wasted. |

This is a really dumb question to be honest. It is fairly obvious that anyone that is hating the way TOR is being developed, doesn't like the way it is being developed. While you are giddy over the way it is turning out, others aren't. Different strokes for different folks. Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic |

All of that is based off of speculation. You have no idea how the game will play because you have not played it. You should never hate something out of ignorance or inexperience. |

What you think constitutes a real MMO is new to me. They all meet the MMO criteria. What you are defining is sandbox as opposed to theme park or guided content. You want sandbox, then wait for one to come out. Bitching about a MMO that chooses not to be sandbox is the epitome of stupidity. |

You don't have to be a hero, play Sith and you can be the conquering douchebag who kicks baby kittens and steals walking canes from the senior citizens of the Republic. I think the whole "It's on rails" argument is overblown. The cover systems shows you all the possible cover spots you have, it doesn't force you to go from one specific spot to the next. Did you expect to be able to take cover behind a space daisy or some Kath Hound turd? |

I've read interviews, press releases, watched videos, and gathered FACTS about the game. The only bit of speculation in that post is basically admitted to be ("I'm pretty much predicting..."), the rest is based on FACTS that have been released by Bioware. |

Bioware will give each class a different story (perhaps also with different endings depending on youre decisions) that is more the singlepleyar part of the game
next to that you will have a grand economy, pvp, pve, space ships for the guild (and perhaps a smaller one for yourself) and who knows perhaps dogfights! (gief that plx :) )
also no lame grinding quests like, kill X rats or slimes plz and do that tommorow again. k thx goodbye |

You'll notice that I said "MMORPG" instead of "MMO". You obviously don't know the difference, just as you assume that I'm clamoring for a "sandbox" game....and you probably don't even know WTF a true "sandbox" is. \ And yet you have the SACK to call me "stupid". And who's bitching?? The OP asked a question, I answered it. All I see you doing is trying to incite a flame war. |

Whatever. He's asking why people are hating on it and then describes how great it will be. Sorry I have to point out the obvious, but he obvously didn't get it. He thinks it's great, others don't. Don't ask dumb questions and you won't get dumb answers. Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic |

I do not know if the game will appeal to me or not but considering who is developing the game im pretty sure it will. And whether i like the game or not i have trouble thinking it will not do very well in the market. I dont know why people hate on this or any other game that they feel doesnt appeal to their specific needs. If its not your type of game find one that is there are many available be it MMO or single player. |

First off, im a Star Wars fan and an RPG fan (loved all games by bioware so far and thought that Kotor was one of the best games ive played). I also enjoy MMOS like WoW. I believe the biggest arguement there is probably that if they really put that much story into this game (more than all bioware games combined) then its very hard to make everything good quality. I rather take a 50 hour experience that is near perfect than a 100 hour experience that is decent. On top of that, there are still the questions "how will they bind the great singleplayer experience to a great multiplayer experience?" "How will they balance the 2?" "How will they bind pvp situations to it?" (Like if they do not add open pvp there will be siths and a jedis happily talking to each other over tea. Like I dont want to see sith and jedi walking past each other on the big map not being able to attack each other. Thats just ruins the RPG aspect of the game). Another good argument is that while you are out playing your unique story, in a tense situation, a kiddy comes by and ruins the whole intensity with a "Yo Noob! Your Characta looks like Jar Jar binks without his morning coffee.". There will always be farmers around that also ruin the experience , people that just want to level or gank low levels. Im sure that most people that want a great single player experience out of this game dont want kiddies interrupting them when it gets exiting. Dont get me wrong, if they pull this game off it will certainly Punch WoW in the happy Sack (and i will be there, playing the hell out of it), yet if they dont, we have a game that could be so much more but just fell flat on the....happy sack because instead of quality, quantity won the day. |

Which means there's VERY little real-estate in the game, otherwise they'd need an entire team of people JUST to put a little icon in all the possible PRE DEFINED (which is the KEY here) cover spots in the game.
The story arcs are pre-defined. The cover spots for smugs are pre-defined. EVERYTHING is pre-defined so that the "story" isn't "broken" by a player going along an un-expected route (as explained in one of the very first DEV interviews). The choices are an illusion. And how long do you think it will be before a web site pops up with all the story brances mapped out so that a given class can just jam down the shortest path, in what will basically amount to a different kind of grind?? You people are naive. |

A game where the task of dealing with the rats is manditory and blocking to player advancement is more linear, even if given the choice to kill or capture them. A game where the task of dealing with the rats is not manditory, and not blocking to player advancement is less linear, even if your only choice is to kill them.
