Have played in the betas so far, and it's a fun game, but is no WoW killer.  I would put this game at 500k tops in the US 6 months after it's release.  Before you all start with the WoW = lowest common denominator flaming understand there needs to be some balance between pain in the arse, and easy as hell.  And while this game isn't over the top difficult, the questing is a pain along with a few other items that will cause it to lose about half of it's player base withing the first half year.  Not to worry though, there will be enough players to keep the game rolling myself included.

WoW's the gateway drug. You'll never outsell it. Life, and MMOs, go on.  Your crystal ball picked a nice random number, though.

No game will kill WoW.  WoW will die a slow death completely independent of any other mmo as most of it's populace slowly fades away to their pre-mmo days and go back to watching TV reality shows...because most WoW players never played an mmo before it, and won't play other one after it.

If you believe a WoW killer must be ridiculously easy like its precessor, then yes, thank goodness this isn't the WoW killer, however it will be substantial enough, 500k subs will probably place it in 2nd or 3rd place, as if this matters to us, since we'll be split in like 10~15 servers anyway higher subs only mean more servers.

By the way congratulations on making the 1000th topic with a "WoW killer" idea.

Aion is better than WoW in every way that WoW tries to be good.

But it has higher system specs, and WoW players have a sense of investment in their characters there. Those are the only reasons that this or pretty much any other game won't actually kill WoW.

And Ill assume youve played all that both games have to offer in order to make such a bold statement? Whats that, you havent passed level 25 in Aion yet? Havent played anything but the first couple beta's which uses an old client? You havent seen any raids, endgame or large scale pvp? Hmm, sounds like your just running your mouth to me. Saying this game is better than that game ect is pretty pointless when your not experienced with either.

No the WoW killer is called the Chinese Government. Without those subs WoW has a little under 7 million subs, Aion has close to 4 million and that is without NA and Europe.

As to NA subs I think they will have more than 500k, Aion is hitting at the perfect time, WAR failed, Conan failed, people have already finished WotK months ago, no word from Blizz on an expanision which means it is at least 1-1.5 years away, nothing else on the near horizon for big games (6-12months),  and unless you want to repeat the same old content for your 7th alt in WOW, I think Aion is going to pull in a lot more than 500k as long as its end game is as fun as it looks.

They already have very strong preorder sales and those sales are all by word of mouth, they have done 0 advertising and no slick marketing that WAR did.  I think they will still be growing unless they do something stupid 6 months out.

Nothing is going to be a WoW killer, but I do believe Aion is going to be a close enough equal and finally show a game besides WOW can be a big world wide success, and that that this will be the first big success of an Asia MMO in the NA market.  That is good for the MMO business.  And its end game revolves around pvp rather than farming the same instance over and over and over again which is the biggest selling point for me.

I, like many others, are pretty tried of the idea of a "WoW Killer". In a way WoW was pretty unquie among MMOs because it already had a large fan base from the RTS games and combined with Blizzards skill at making games that work like crack (Diablo 2 anyone?) it became a hit. The real Wow Killer will be time. I had fun with it for sometime but you get tired of games after awhile and look for something knew. Already the subscriptions for Wraith of the Lich King are far below the numbers they had in the past, though still far surpassing other MMOs, but still eventually people will just move onto something else.

I'm looking forward to Aion and hoping its fun in its own way and can keep in interested in playing it.

Yes Aion is the WOW killer. It will cut the throat of blizz and a slow bleed will commence and SWTOR will finish it off with a light sabre. Now give me a cookie and quit commenting on these ignorant threads people.

No one said it was, but thank you for the prediction. Just want to point out, though, that your ass is not a reliable source of data.

There aren't 500K's worth of PvP oriented, hardcore, grind tolerant players in the U.S.A.  WAR and AOC have a lot more PvE content than Aion has after level 25.  You grossly over exagerate the number of PvP focused Western gamers.

You people are really funny considering Icecrown citadel has yet to be released and only 1 guild that im aware of has cleared Ulduaar on hard mode.

Yeah, but why would you want to?  Just wait till the expansion, Blizz will put the instance in easy mode and everyone will be able to clear it.

Yep, real accomplishment there.

But I'll agree, Aion is not a WOW killer, just a game that will make some folks happy, especially those more interested in open world PVP.

Initial sales 400/500K and after 3 months: 250 K subs. And this is combined sales of NA/EU btw. :))

As always. :))))

A Korean copycat product can simply not be compared to the PVE content of Blizzard, the polishment and itemisation and incredible class designs of Blizzard.

It will be good to see another product of the WOW haters bite the dust.

As games need to be played and not hyped or hated.:))))

You know, a lot of us like Aion without having to stoop to bashing another game, like WoW. It's childish, stupid and just plain lame. "My game is better than your game" blah blah blah. Really, for someone as old as you are Zorndorf, I would expect you to be not so immature. But then again, your immaturity is probably what keeps you playing WoW. (See what I did there?)

I see what you did, you went from not bashing a game to bashing a random person on the internet. Which is amazingly mature. Lets all be internet tough guys now!

I'll start with the let's kill this "wow killer" crap maybe I'm too literal a speaker but what the hell does that mean? It's going to take so many subs from wow that wow will go out of business? Does it mean it will surpass wows subs? Once again that could certainly have no effect on wow either way let's let this phrase die out along with the chuck norris proclamations.

Some of us would want to because we enjoy a challenge. If there are players out there interested in shorting themselves the experience then thats cool too. But I liked to be pushed. Im too old to play tackle football so this fills that competitive void. I tried to do that with my wife but, she's a worse loser than I am. :-)

lmao @ the term "WoW killer"

If I only had a nickel for every time I've heard that phrase.  Who really cares what "kills" World of Warcraft.

It may not kill it in NA/EU but I think the Asian market will eat this game up.   I may try it because of the asian look cuz Im into that sort of thing, but it already looks like its going to feel like another WoW clone which may not be what I want.   After all ive never been able to play WoW past level 50 because the game is boring as hell.  But hey maybe the asian spice might actually keep me interested in it.  How funny would that be? after all my favorite MMORPG is FFXI.
