How can anyone logically think the cops did anything wrong? Robbery report called in. Man in house refuses to show ID and didn't cooperate. That right there makes the alarm bells go off . A rational human being would say, "Here officer, this is my house. Here's my drivers license. I appreciate you showing up so quickly. Thank you. Have a nice day." Thats rational. The officer should sue his ass for defamation. Imagine if it WAS a robbery and the cops didn't bother showing up for an hour and thought instead, "Oh its just some guy locked out of his own house. No big deal. It happens all the time." What do think would happen then? Obama is an idiot for even having an opinion before getting the facts. He SHOULD'VE said, "I don't have the facts, so I really can't comment." That's it. He just had to call the cops stupid, didn't he? But I'm sure people will just let it slide, like they always do since Obama can do no wrong and is infallible...according to most media that is;) |

Just to clear up a few things, the police didn't do anything "wrong". They appeared on site after a reported break in, which the suspect even admitted to having to shoulder his own door in, and got a positive identification that nothing was amiss. The problem came in that the suspect was beligerent and aggressive against the police. Now, on the one hand, Crowley was not against his rights to do what he did, if he felt it necessary. However, at the same time he should have known better than to do it, as it would just cause trouble down the road. I'll support a cop any day of the week to do what he (or she) feels necessary to protect themselves from harm, but arresting a guy for just being loud and annoying is asking for trouble. Probably nothing would have come of this on a national level if it wasn't for Obama speaking out against it, that was the worst. To have a President publicly admit he didn't know the facts, then immediately afterwards implicate/insult a public official, is just insane. Not even going to go into his final comment. No matter what level of idiocy was shown by that move, I'm more interested in why in the world he spoke out against that after spending almost an hour talking about health care. Did he somehow think those few seconds were going to take second fiddle to the rest of the press conference? Yikes.
Final Note: I like the comment made by someone who said something along the lines of "racism isn't dead, especially in America." I find that hilarious because I have a good friend who is black (not African-American, thank you very much, he's of French descent) who took a trip to Europe at one point. I've been looking to go there myself, and wanted to know if he wanted to come along. His answer: "Hell no." Why? Because while racism isn't dead in America, we've got nothing on Europe and some Asian countries. Its always funny that people assume you can't get much worse than America, when generally the situation is you can't find much better than America. |

Wonder if Obama will have the balls to pull a Nancy and at least say he stands by what he said. Doubt it. I also doubt he's going to apologize. He'll probably just jump back to the fence and act like nothing happened. If it had of gone to trial and the cop was found guilty of wrong doing it would be another story. |

As soon as I heard a news report that Obama had commented I rolled my eyes and thought, "here it comes". When you are President of the United states reporters are going to stand up there and bait you with all kinds of question to create a controversy. Controvery sells air time, networks love to sell air time. Things like what Rush Limbaugh said, or what he thought of the Cambridge professor's arrest, are not items he should comment on. Nor should he ever get in a public relations slagfest with an AM radio talk show host. It's just good common sense. Who knows, maybe by the end of his first term Obama will learn to exercise some, before his public relations people duct tape his mouth shut.

Yup I think most of us realize that the police were not in the wrong here. Sure, they have lawyers who have said "You can be as belligerent in your own house to the police as you want, as long as you are not threatening them" but really, that's besides the point. The police were doing their damn job, they were investigating a break-in and needed to figure out who's who. Obama really screwed the pooch on this one. And those of you who know me, know that I'm about as Liberal as they come. He better do more than apologize for his comments. I don't know what but something, anything. |

After hearing Obama's comments, I'd like to know if he is really that dumb (I don't have all the facts...buuuut the cop was dumb) or if he's trying to draw attention away from the healthcare fiasco in Congress right now. |

First off let me say that I think the only reason The President of the United States mentioned this in a prime time press conference was to distract the news media and create an irrelevant and pointless news cycle (irrelevant and pointless to them). Beyond that, Henry Gates pays officer Crowley's salary so he (Henry Gates) can have protection from dangerous criminals that ,by there actions, are trying to destroy the law abiding community that Henry Gates and others are trying to build. It is truly sad that so much attention can be throw on an issue yet so many, including officer Crowley and news media, no longer have the intellect and character to understand this. |

The stereotyping of whites by black leaders like Gates and Obama needs to be addressed for the good of U.S ... the U.S really needs a special Congressional panel on the destructive usage of the race card in the U.S and the economics of the race business. Without racism and the non stop usage of the race card.. Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Gates and Obama wouldn't have a job.

For one it was a question of life or death, for the other it's just a question of a little inconvenience. |

A future solution would be to put video cameras and mics on the police officers(just like they do with the police cruisers) when they respond to calls to protect both the officers and the defendent as well as to have a true account of the altercation |

9.7.24 edit, alot of you refuse to believe there used to be "whites only" drinking fountains and swimming pools, they murdered blacks that had the nerve to date white women, and "black blood" was kept separate (but equal) from 'good blood' by the red cross.
