So, I was kinda enjoying the game. The UI is not as cumbersome as some would have you believe, the graphics are still pretty stunning, and there were some interesting things going on. I uninstalled it after I died (I died on purpose to see what would happen) and being charged money to continue where I left off killed it for me. There were a lot of neat features in this game and I recommend anybody who wants something completely different from the usual fantasy MMO give this one a try. Just don't die....

This is a good thing actually, you are the type of player Eve does not attract....not saying this is a bad thing for you, but rather a good thing for the Eve community overall.  The game is not for everyone, what you experienced is what boot-camps or basic-training are for to weed out the weak and maintain the strong in armies.

You are just not the type Eve tries to keep, but the best to you and whatever you end up playing later on.

no he wasnt charged real money, in fact, he wasnt charged anything at all.

When you die in eve, what you were flying at the time explodes. If you want to fly it again, you have  to repurchase the item. The nice thing is, the said item is made by another player, so you are doing your part to fund the crafters and harvesters in the game.

However, when you die you are always given a starter ship again... so... you really arent charged a thing. Granted the death penalty is much more harsh than most other games...but thats what makes eve so fun, and also makes eve one of the few mmo's with a functional economy.

Lol- that makes sense I guess and I might give it a try again later on, but as was mentioned before- I would probably be a detriment to the community by the sounds of things.

I agree.  Everyone should die at least once on their trial.  EvE does not reward failure, it's one of its "Love it or hate it" distinguishing features.

Personally, I had my 100th lifetime loss this week - you get used to it after a while.  Now I just laugh, even if it's something expensive.

You get charged isk if you were podded and you need to update your clone. However, NPCs will not pod you unless they glitched. It's really just players that you have to worry bout podding you

Actually you dont' even get charged isk if you get podded... you SHOULD update your clone but the game doesn't FORCE you to.  So no, the op didn't get 'charged' for dying, not even in the remotest sense of the word.  In fact, if he'd made sure his insurance on his ship was up to date and at platinum level he actually got PAID for dying.   If it wasn't insured?  That's his own fault for flying an un-insured ship.

A lot of older players don't bother to insure most of their ships (myself included) for various reasons.  Usually because our ships tend to out-live their insurance period and at that point it's cheaper to just not insure them in the first place ;)  That or they are T2 ships which the insurance doesn't even begin to cover the mods, let alone the cost of the ship ;)

But for a new player, flying T1?  Insure insure insure :)  As a new player you will most likely lose the ship long before it's insurance runs out.

i dont get it, do you mean that you are upset that you lost your ship or that you are upset that its possible to die?

i dont think eve is really your kind of game, but good on you for trying it out.

i insure tech 1 battlecruisers and tech 1 battleships. i dont bother with frig insurance or cruiser insurance and insuring tech 2 like taram says is pointless.

You died on purpose and then quit because you died?   uh... hmmmmmmm. Ok.  As for the money part - the other posters are correct.  Myself, I cannot get past the part where you died on purpose and then quit the game cause you died.

the only other way I could think of he thought he was charged isk was he lost some t1 ship and had to pay ISK for new fittings and to reinsure his new ship

When you die it will cost you ISK and the further along you get in the game the more you will lose.

I have been playing eve for about three years now.  While I love almost everything about the game he one thing I can say that absolutley HATE about the game is the amount of e-peen waving holier then though eliteists that it attracts.  like Mr. Wow is that way -> guy.    Seriously, your not nearly as hardcore as you think you are.

-Currently looking forward to FFXIV

-Currently playing EvE and Global Agenda

I think that's a great idea. In fact, the tutorial should lead every new player into an non-winnable scenario that results in their ship being destroyed.

Then they'd respawn and have to purchase a new one with the funds they earned doing the tutorial.  That would give them a much more honest experience to the game play.

OP, don't let the folks here scare you off, EVE is for all sorts of players, and  you can play it so you suffer minimal losses .(i.e. I've played for over two years on 3 characters and have no where near 100 ship losses, but I'm risk averse)
