Hey, I have done WAR beta and was half convince, but after the 10 days trial, I found that many things work very well in this game, and it deliver a lot of enjoyable features. So, haters go away! What do you enjoy the most in WAR? |

I love the PvE. Its probable the best in fantasy out there. So much warhammer lore.
What gets me most excited though is the RvR combat. This weekend I defended the main castle in Teir 4 twice. Once in Chaos then an hour and a half later in Elf. It was a slaughter. |

I never realy was with the pvp but WAR made it fun i love sc's and open RvR now its so improved from the beging. love pvp so much now I play on the pvp server. What i realy loved is the grouping, its been a real long time since my old EQ days since grouping was such a important part of the game from lvl1 to 40/80. Guilds man no other game has brought guilds to life like WAR did, look at the new guild tab, a lvling system so you realy fell like your doing something on a scale biger then your self its more then just /g and a vent. The tome of knowledge.. even WOW had to strait up steal that from WAR but WAR's is so much more title's kill tracker from funny little things to major mile stones. Renown its like a dual lvling system. love/hate this one clases are not all the same even the order to destro chacters do not mirror up take the sorc. to bw supose to be the same but the sorc has way better dot's and kite abilty literaly can light your chacter up with like 6dots in 3sec then hit you with a sustained damage abality like hand of ruin to put the cherry on top., while the bright wizzard has a better AOE path then the sorc does like i said you love and hate this all at the same time. Keep takes and fort pushes depending on the attacking/defending force and the teir its a little difrent every time ( i said a little difrent yes, yes, tank wall, range aoe,aoe ya ya ) but with all the little variables it's not the exact same experiance every time. Chacter variety in look from silly funny shammy, looking realy cool chosen, to wow they had thongs back then??? witch elf's variety. The fact you can play and lvl with out ever having to do 1 quest " Q. so how is it you are lvl 40 and dont have a mount? how do you get around? A. "the flight master takes me where i need to go don't have to walk far to train, buy gear, and goto auction then off to a WC to join a sc". Q. what do you do when your not doing thoes things or you are out of a sc? A." their's things to do out side of sc's??" JK but you could if you wanted to thats the point. Let me state this is the stuff i like their is also a lot of stuff i do not like I am not a fanboy and their are many times I would like to grab hold of someone from mythic take them into a dark ally and play the RL warhammer with them for what they didi to the game. but this is the stuff I will give them credit for that provide me with alot of fun.

Leveling with PvP. PvP from level 1. Level does not critically influence PvP outcome. Mature playerbase. Almost no "leetism." Open groups. Dual targetting. A good balance of instanced and open PvP. The way levels and gear come naturally while you play - no compulsion to play if you don't feel like it just so you can grind up something. For me the best mmo out there, despite its flaws especially at T4. Just came back from Aion beta and I wanted to puke. No more "PvE so you can PvP" for me. Ever. And the crap with chars 3 levels higher than you being unbeatable due to hidden res buffs is just plain despicable and ridiculous. WAR rules. Once you see what crap gets thrown around as PvP mmo you realize how fantastic some of the new concepts employed in WAR are. There is simply no coming back to old-gen mmos for me... I found myself grinding the 1001st giant hamster in Aion (yes, they are called "Mumu" and giant cats are "Mau" - enjoy your PvE immersion) and just said "wtf am I doing?", shut it down, got WAR up and entered the first scen that popped so I can get off the steam by bashing some good old red. Oh joy! |

The way it's going I don't expect WAR will be around this time next year there's a pretty reliable rumour going around that GOA are going to lay off 50% of it's workforce because of WAR flopping and that in the last 3 months WAR has lost another 120k subs, it's also been confirmed that WAR in Taiwan is closeing 5 out of it's 9 servers and the game only released there a few weeks ago. Aion while not to everyones taste is good enough to cause real problems for WAR all it has to do is steal 40-50k subs from WAR to put it at real risk of been shut down. |

Originally posted by Newhopes I had to read your crazy run own sentence 3 times to understand it, but what you are saying is that Aion will cause WAR to fail? I played WAR from CB to 4 months after launch. I was 5/6 of Lost Vale gear (the best PVE gear), RR 65ish, and was in the "top" guild on my server. I can tell you why WAR failed. There is nothing for hardcore and long term players. I was playing 10+ hours a day, PVE, RVR scenarios AND open field, I simply found nothing to keep playing for. Besides the fact that the forts would crash every other time we tried to raid them, the game offers little for long term play. There wasn't enough PVE content to go around when PVP was dead, and there weren't enough people going out to RVR in lakes. Everybody wanted to do scenarios or take empty BOs and keeps. Nobody wanted to actually PVP. ANYWAY, sorry for the rant! When I played WAR, what I enjoyed most was RVR at lower levels. Scenarios are fun and I found RVR lakes more fun than in tier 4. PQ system is great, but its randomized for contribution rolling (unless they changed it). PVE was super easy, which is good and bad, and all classes could solo relatively well. This is good for casual players. The end game instances were GREAT, but after we beat them to death there was nothing else for us to do. The best experience you can have is RVR in lakes with full raids. So much fun, so many deaths, complaining and renown. I miss the game, but if I played again I will get bored within a month. |

Which would be a damn shame. We'd be left without any mmos that you can actually level through by PvP. That would be the end of the mmo hobby for me and my friends who play WAR. Aion's endgame looks very very promising and I believe they did make it actually work much closer to old DAOC than Mythic did with its over-fussy PvE-PvP separation and linear parallel frontlines. However, imo once you've tasted WAR's PvP leveling there is a very very slim chance you'll be able to accept Aion's hamster grinding for longer than a few hours. In that respect Aion is even more of an evolutionary throwback than WoW was. It gives the old dreadful "PvE so you can PvP" time-devourer a completely new dimension of frustration and futility. I really really wanted Aion to be the "WAR killer" since I'm pretty pissed off at how Mythic managed to screw up a perfectly good RvR formula they had in DAOC but the hamster grinding proved to be waay too much for me. I actually felt bile rising at my 200th giant hamster knowing that I have god knows how many of the pixelated bastards to go through before I get to actually play the game. Howevever, as weird as it may sound, WAR spoiled me and there is no way I'll even glance at Aion untill they fix that PvE leveling grind crap. |

Markoroas overstatements for Aion are laughable at best. Getting to 20 is doable in a small weekend. If PvP turns out to be good to great I don't know any real PvP-er that won't suffer through that *incredibly* short time to be able to PvP in a game for the rest of his game life.
The whole argument is ridiculous in my opinion, but then I know he doesn't agree.
Coming from Daoc myself, levelling through PvE to get to PvP is just fine with me. I care *far* more about PvP actually being *FUN* than I do about whether I get to do it from level 1.

Oh, I don't agree as you correctly predicted. You'll be grinding even more giant hamsters once you get to the Abyss. The PvP xp post 25 in Aion is laughable and the hidden res buffs are so powerful you'll be grinding those hamsters in PvE zones up till you're 50 and that's many months off unless you're borderline autistic, insomniac and on a dole (Aion's target audience I suspect) I have no idea how Aion is doing so well in Korea. I really don't. Maybe botting is the answer - if I was to play Aion as it is now I'd resort to botting, I really would out of desperation - it really is the only way to do it if you value your free time and you're in it for some actual fun. But heck, their subscription does work on per hour basis so there is some economic logic to this. You pay for the time your bot does the crappy parts of the game you don't want to bother with. Perfect economic sense in fact... Actually I WOULD play Aion as it is now if they legalized botting and made it an integral part of the game (Atlantica or something has it, no?).However I'm not going to spend my time and money on a 'bot's job... no way man. |

I don't care about Aion either way, my point remains the same. I could care less what I have to trudge to if I can spend the rest of my character life doing good-great PvP. That's no different than Daoc and that was about the best PvP experience a MMO has ever seen.

And this obviously has something to do with leveling by PvP... Talking about apples and oranges here. Good luck with your hamsters, walking clams or whatever. I got a child, a job, a degree to complete and a novel to write so I don't want to kill no giant hamsters in my free time - only the real blood will do. Will you be my Aion hamster-bot? I pay good $$ /angeleyes ? |

What I enjoy most is open world RvR. No doubt about it. I hope that in time they add more open RvR areas, add PvE quests to the existing lakes and try to make each keep a little bit unique. |

Originally posted by Newhopes Yeah i dont think Aion will "kill"anything but with the problems War already has any bite Aion takes will hurt. I am subbed to War right now but i dont expect to renew another month of it. As i side note, besides myself i know three other people personally who are doing the Aion beta's, only one said he wasnt going to buy the game as for myself i will be picking up my preorder when it ships. As for what i like about War, its the pvp right away, my main gripe is that after tier 1 i dont find many PQ's being done to join in with. So in a nut shell the War pvp is good , the War pve, not so much. |
