And no it's not because of VAT. It's a rip off.

Thats stupid considering the exchange rate makes it £95 +£19.75 a month =( Well they have lost me as I can't simply afford that price, shame I was really looking forward to this game.

Well its a bit of a gray area, I myself did not buy the game, not that I cant because I still even have my full loot reserved, but I just dont think paying that amount of money for something I have not played ever and its just based on expectations is not worth it, If I had played it even for a few minutes to get a feel of progress and how gameplay actually is, then yeah no doubt I would have bought it.

I still have high hopes and a very expensive box wont mean that the game is not gonna make it in the end, but im not willing to fork out more than 40 pounds to help these guys, it is also non refundable, and I would get for 80 pounds or the "cheaper" 65 pounds is their word that the game is solid.

I will however wait for the digital download if its within what im willing to pay.

Eh I thought $20 was about £10... learn to math, this is normal fee for mmos

If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

Add to this, the store opened around 3am in europe. Seems like SV is aiming to please the american market and to screw europeans.

On the mortal online site:

The monthly subscription cost of Mortal Online will be €14.25 for Europeans and $14.25 for everybody else. This cost is subject to change.

So please stop mumbling

I am confused about this "wait for the digital download" business. I have seen this mentioned a few time now, but from the shop page it looks like the download will be made available during beta. What am I missing here?

I can understand someone being willing to pay more for a box, and maybe charging more for one is justifiable since the print run might be small compared to other releases, but surely by now we all view any boxed copy of an MMO as a collector's curiosity, no?

It's surprising they would even consider € = $ pricing since that has generated so much negative publicity in the past year on Steam and in a few other cases. What's the justification for this? Someone in another thread remarked that $20 is a standard price to pay for a subscription fee. Who the hell (other than Darkfall, I would hazard a guess) is actually charging this to European customers right now?

$20 is about 14-15 euros right now. Wich is the standard fee you pay for almost all MMOs here in Europe.

I have always paid between 12 and 15 euros per month for my MMO games. This is nothing new.

Even this day you can buy games for $50, DVD's for $25 in US and here in Europe we still pay 50 euros for (boxed) games and 25 euros for DVD's.

So again... nothing new.

All europeans to pay in Euros @ 14.25euro a month. This works out at £12.25 a month. mmos in uk are usually £8.99 a month

MO isn't 50 euros. It's 89.94 euros for the LE and 68.69 euros for the normal boxed version.

Then how come I see the price of 54,95 euros for the NORMAL boxed version when I check out? From Norway, Europe.

Cheers

So? You either complain at the European Parlement or migrate outside the EU (like I did :P). Whole stupid EU is one big rip off.

All other MMO's are around the 50 euros (That's including VAT) + 13 euros per month, where MO is 68.69 euros + 15 euros per month. It's not the European Parlement ripping off anyone, it's Starvault.

Then don't buy it. Life can be so simple at times.

There are 2 different VAT's. When you buy a box at your local store. VAT is included in the price as the store can get it back from the tax deduction.

When you buy a product from another country within the EU, you are subjected to EU VAT (wich also differs per country) that ends up straight in the pocket of the EU.

EU VAT is always ADDED to the product price. That's why when I still lived in Holland, half the time I didn't bother buying anything on Amazon.co.uk or any other site outside Holland, as when the EU VAT was added it wasn't worth it at all and ending up, including shipping costs ...way way too much.

Cheers

Sorry but its a rip off. Here in the UK its going to cost an extra £3-4 a month to play, and the box itself costs over twice the price of a standard PC retail game. They are most definitely using the hype of the game, as they will have a limited number of boxes and no doubt people will still buy them despite high prices. I'm waiting on the digital download, hopefully its more reasonably priced.

I haven't bought it and never will. I just made an account to verify the prices.

Just seeing the kind of community a FFA PVP MMO attracks (aka Darfail) makes my stomach ache.

Read my previous edited post.

Have any of you already started a topic on the official forums about it? Or just contacted Starvault directly?

Could very well be they screwed up with conversion rates and everything will be sorted soon.

Just saying.
