I also think it's in part that LOTRO is just a GOOD game period. Ever since Moria launched the game has definitely seen a continued increase in activity and subs. Good for Turbine. I really hope they knock Rohan/Gondor/Mordor out of the park. |

Its free so they will always have some player base, especially because whoever get really bored with LOTRO and do not come back will sell Life time subs account.

I thought most people used it for the chat client. I never even knew it had a record function, but then I have never used it for anything myself. I installed it for a couple of weeks just to track how much time I was spending playing games. the combo of the contest and the welcome back campaign sure seems helping with AoCs numbers though, they are up 30% over last week. Good timing too, the game was ready to drop into the 50's the way it was headed. |

I just started using Xfire and it's perfect for chatting with friends who aren't in the same game. It also has the ability to take screenshots, videos, and a new video broadcast feature. As for AoC - I'm installing it right now so I can give the 2-week free trial a go :P I haven't played since launch. |

I wonder how it compares to vent. We have a Vent server and the voice chat coming from there is pretty good. |

Eve Online felt like a job to me too. A job where your colleagues could randomly kick your ass and steal your paycheck.. |

This is pretty huge too considering YG hasn't been actively tracking players through it's bot service in over a month. Most of the activity is through it's profiler service which players have to download and setup.
That means the activity is much higher then even that number. |

LoTRO of course has built in client for fellowships. Sometimes a few of in my kin just group for the chat even when playing solo |

well just looked at the Xfire figures and the promotions are sure helping out their Xfire hours. It had had over 10K hours yesterday. Nothing like the 80K it had at release or even the 23K it had a month later but a hell of a lot better than it has had in a while. |

Heh - I got home from vacation today and thought: Oh well lets give AoC one last shot (even at a discount.) I do not care too much about xfire stats but the "Xfire users playing per day" is a sample (NOOO I do NOT care whether YOU, your GF, your pets or your guild is using xfire...) AoC did NOT attract anything like the original subs with their "winback program". Once I get a hostmachine set up for AoC (later tonight) I really hope that servers are a lot more "medium load"'ed than they were when I last checked back in november 2008. (Yeah I resubbed for a few months as well because I know I will be busy at work during the next month or so)

Ventrillo and Teamspeak2 are great for team/guild chat that are locked to a single server. (Even if Vent license is bad... Really BAD.) Xfire (and Skype or MSN messenger for that matter) is something entirely different. You can do team chats on xfire but the quality is generally a lot lower than TS2/vent once you have some 10+ ppl in there. However: Xfire is great because of all the other features: Game list, easy screenshots/vids including publishing, the IM client and a lot of extras. Add to that, that xfire coexists quite well with most "serverlocked" chat-programs

I am certain now that AoC will grow in the months to come. How much however I dont know.

It is back to where it was around late last August/early September. What is important though is not how much but rather how long it will last. This spike needs to be a trend that lasts till the release of the expansion. This is the last rabbit in the hat till then. if this is just a one month spike it won't do them much good in the long run. If it drops back down to the levels it was in early June levels I doubt if there will be many smiling faces at the stockholders meetings. |
