I was so looking forward to this game, everything about it sounded great. then they had to issue the comment that cryptic bucks can be used to buy "anything" in game. RMT is a go in Champions Online and I will not be buying it. I am disappointed. |

edit: I hope this doesn't end up ruining the game. My best adivice is to try the free open beta Aug 17 and then decide if you want to write it off. EQ1-DAOC-EVE-CoH-EQ2-WoW-GW-LOTRO-WAR-RIFT-GW2(soon)-D3(soon) |

(RawGutts) Roper: As I mentioned earlier, Cryptic has a set of core technology that we build upon, and being able to have digital distribution for things that are both inside and outside the game was very important to us. We wanted to have a system in place that allowed people to get stuff that way. So we came up with these Cryptic Bucks, and you can use those to get anything inside or outside of the game. We basically wanted to allow players to have a denomination that can be used across everything that Cryptic does. It’s definitely something we’ve fleshed out as we look towards the future as well. We’ll have players that are bouncing between CO and Star Trek Online, so they can use those for either game. Or maybe they just want to get a hat. As opposed to having to do billing for three different or four different solutions, we just made Cryptic bucks and are allowing players to use them wherever they want. It’s actually a model that gets used quite a bit in Asia, for those developers or publishers that have several different online games. You see that concept a little bit with US game cards, but traditionally that’s just used to pay off a subscription fee. We’re trying to expand that out, so that if players get something with Cryptic bucks on it, they can go “Oh! I want pay for my subscriptions on these two games and buy this product from their store. “

the quote I saw used the words "anything in game". As far as trying the game - I am sure it is great, but with RMT in it I will not play it. |

So we came up with these cryptic bucks, and you can use then to get ANYTHING INSIDE or outside the game. |

"anything inside or outside of the game" is a rather broad term, i'd say Bill Roper has phrased what he was trying to say wrong. Not even full RMT model games allow a player to buy "anything inside of the game". I'll wait for the open beta to make my decision, anyone else of course is entitled to over react and decide not to buy this game based on half information thats their perogative. |

I don't know why there is so much heat already. Instead of sounding like a RMT for in game goods it sounds like they are trying to consolidate all of the current and future game ventures to have one method of credit. Normally games offer paid services from character transfers, to remodeling, to regular subscriptions. If they go with a universal cost, with everything costing a specific amount of cryptic bucks, then they don't need to have separate billing set up for each game and associated services. Also, this allow for them give enticing rewards drawing players to their games. Something like maybe, X cryptic bucks for getting a friend to sign up to any one of their games. Rewards then could also be given for competitions which then could be used as the winner should desire. If they did also offer in game items, I could see it a way to purchase fluff items. These might not do anything aside from looking cool, but there is a large market for people who would want them and attempt to gain cryptic bucks for them. I seriously doubt, given they wish to associate it with all their games, Cryptic is going to go the RMT route. However, these are all hypothetical ideas. Best thing to do is to wait until they actually release the details, then discuss the positives and negatives instead of screaming about the sky falling. |

I know how it feels to be disapointed about a game direction, sofar all newer games kinda done that. We only know rtm as they use it in asian games, the type of game Richard Aihoshi always defends. Me, Im not getting any hopes up anymore about anygame untill I see the final product live. I like live whitout disapointments, those are always so emotional.. I wana be spock when i grow up you know.. :) |

Originally posted by Jojin not saying the sky is falling. I said I am disappointed since I will not play RMT games. If you can afford to buy the game, pay a sub and buy stuff in game, more power to you. I will not. To me it gives an unfair advantages to those with more money than they know what to do with, if a player has more skills than me so be it, more money should not factor into the game. |

Hehe, yeah that needs a translations indeed. I read it three times and still wasn't sure what he meant. Is this guy always talking like this? Why not say it clear, we will know about RMT/microntransactions anyway. Not something I like, esp. since it has monthly fee already. :( Quite a letdown. I have always disliked anything like goldselling, RMT or microtransactions, where RL richness influences anything in a MMO. Let people work in the game for what they want, not have RL $$$ power in a MMORPG. It may be the future, but one I don't have to like it and also I think microtransactions AND monthly fee is a bit... greedy, IMVPO. |
