Logic dictates that it is Aventurine..!

If they are too embarrased to ANNOUNCE who they are partnering with, the chances are they are trying to use slight of hand and not stir that question up.

According to the US Darkfall website, it's $50 for the NA client, and the transfer fee is $40.

do you feel that it would be a good thing if SOE was the publisher and if so exactly why and what point of reference (as in what game) would you use as an example

does your game have rainbow sprinkles and magic ponies!?

ROFL. Let me see.... $50 for EU client a while back... and know you US people have to pay another $50 for NA client plus $40 for the transfer.

And that for a game that has more nails enroute to it's coffin then one can imagine.

Good luck with that. What a scam indeed.

Someone should do a traceroute to see if the server is in the US or not.

No, you got it wrong. You can either start playing now for $50 (and will have to reroll) or wait three months and the transfer fee will be $40.

Still its a BIG scam. No matter how you put it.

They sold EU clients to you US people with the guarantee that you were able to transfer for free to the US server when it came out, as they wanted to start with EU server only.

And now they screw you over and you either pay $100  (EU client plus US client) or $90 (EU client plus transfer).

But then again, Tasos have been lying to you all all along. So it seems nothing new really.

And I guess it won't be long either till someone figures out how to traceroute this new US server and finds out it's located next to the EU-1 right here in Europe.

Think that will be pretty much the final nail on Darkfalls coffin.

Cheers

Life is the true sandbox.
So just enjoy the games

It  is funny how I can Google for a publisher for Darkfall and find one for Dark Fall: Lost Souls. BUt absolutely nothing for this game.

Well if they want my money they will tell me who is publishing this game. If it is Aventurine self publishing Then all the players who left EU1 and payed again for the NA really got screwed.

  1. No - they didn't promise you.  I created a long, detailed thread with quotes from Tasos.  Neither Aventurine or Tasos ever promised (or even stated) North American players would be able to transfer for FREE.  Didn't happen.
  2. That being said, I do feel like Aventurine is pulling a fast one.  While AudioVisual's presence is completely lacking from the European Darkfall website, the fact is they ARE (or were) the publisher/distributor for Europe.  There has been NO public announcement, either through Aventurine or any other source that I've been able to find, regarding the existence of an agreement betwen any other entity and Aventurine to publish Darkfall Online in North America. Per Tasos, in two separate statements (source 1, source 2):

    North American Server
Many of you saw the announcement our server hosting partner GNI made about the signing of our cooperation in North America.

We had already explained that we would be launching in North America sometime during Q2 2009 and this information is also in the FAQ:

We will be making our own announcement when we nail down an exact launch date for the NA server, there are a couple of things which may affect the launch date by a few days that are not ironed out completely yet. Character transfer/cloning will become available with a significant delay (months) and possible further restrictions. This concerns only the characters without any of their possessions. More on this at a later date.

There are several considerations to be taken into account including the fact that European rights and North American rights to Darkfall belong to different organizations.

    Default Clarification

Clarification: American players wanting to clone and transfer their characters do not have to buy another client. Everyone else needs to buy the American Darkfall client to play on the American server. The European rights and the American rights to Darkfall do not belong to the same company, therefore you cannot freely transfer between the two territories, as is the case with most MMORPGs. Our offer of character cloning / transfer to American players is because we had said that we would try to accommodate them should they want to start playing on the European server.

By referring to the rights belonging to separate companies, Tasos implies that there's a new publisher involved.  After all, if Aventurine was self publishing, why not just say it?  If Aventurine is sefl-publishing at this time, then it's essentially a lie-by-omission.
  3. Aventurine's justification for charging for the North American client and for the transfer costs is that the rights belong to separate companies.  If there was actually a third-party involved, this would be reasonable and customary.  In the absence of a third party (self-publishing), I can see Aventurine paying a per/account fee to AudioVisual to essentially "buy" EU characters so they can be released and transferred to North America, but why charge for a North American client license for existing EU players? I can understand the charge and transfers as a matter of logicstics, but the entire scheme seems very underhanded.

Good game or not, I wouldn't ever support Aventurine again after this debacle.  Why support a company that behaves in such an unprofessional and deceptive manner?  If Aventurine was a restaurant and served the best food in the world, but their service sucked and their business tactics were underhanded, I wouldn't eat at their restaurant.  Why?  Because the food is just part of the experience. Likewise, I won't pay to play their game. Their support is awful, their staff is unprofessional, their ability to effectively and honestly communicate with their customers is dismal and they appear to be deliberately misleading players in regards to the North American launch.

Honestly, what is the big deal? Every MMO developer charges for transfers, and that's if they even allow transfers at all across the atlantic. WOW sure doesn't, they make you buy a whole separate client and they don't even give you the option of transferring! All this drama is like a storm in a teacup.

its a big deal from the standpoint of AV basically misleading the consumer. No real reason to rehash the entire thing though.

From reading the DF forums, and talking to the few guildies who decided to repurchase the game, payments go to Adventurine SA, which is the same entity as EU. its just a simple money grab to generate more revenue at this point. Its actually more expensive to transfer a charecter then to buy a new account at this point. 15$ monthly + 40$ transfer fee, and the monthly fee doesnt roll over between EU and NA servers. Or just pay 50$ for 1 month + new account.

Personally while i like aspects of the game and really want to see a good FFA pvp game again, i have no interest in being scammed for more money, and hope AV fails pathetically at this point.
