Well, I have the same experience on the PvP servers. The PvE servers however are better. And when I think of it I had the same problem in PvP servers on other games too, even EQ2 that use to have a very good community. Dunno why, seems like more kids prefer PvP servers, and LOTRO of course dont have any. |

lotr is a game I've never tried before for some reason despite playing pretty much everything else. This thread tempted me to go give it a go however they blew it already. google lotr online, get to the site, see they are offering the full game with expansion packs for $9.99 including 30 days free, can't go wrong with that. Realiseing I'll have more fun on the EU servers (I'm in england) I click the link on the bottom of the page to the eu shop. The same game £29.99 which is a touch under $50, 5 times the price, they can bite me. |

Well I'm playing on wiccah I think which is a PvE server so I guess they are everywhere. Anyway I didn't pay much attention to global chat and when I did look at it it had settled down some. It is definitely more irritating then any other game I've played which is kinda sad. That said I did get into the new yimir pass or whatever the zone was called and had a good time working on quests there. Had they had this area in the game when I played I probably wouldn't have quit. It looks like it is just what is needed in the mid to upper 50s. The zone was well done. Quests were pretty similar to most games although more like eq2 then what I recall from other games. In that the quests are more like dialogs although the dialogs in AoC are very much the best. They just need to add voice overs. I felt the quests were better then LoTR due to the dialogs and fire person interaction. I also thought the quests were a bit better then the ones I was working on in LoTR. Combat is much improved over what it was when I played it at launch. All my abilities at lvl 57 were 1 or 2 shot combos so I didn't have any of that BS dealing with 3-4 shot combos where the key strokes would not queue and I'd drop a combat ability loosing the effect. Playing combat abilities around the shields and weaknesses was great. I always liked that aspect of combat. However the speed of combat makes it difficult to really figure out why I want to use one ability over another vs just using abilites that I can use based on the shields. I speced corruption for my assassin which did give me a bit more spice to my combat. However I still felt like it was overly chaotic and my use of combat was focused mostly on shields. None the less I had no trouble taking down 2 npcs at once although I was lvl 57 and they were 55. Trying to do 3 at once was mostly a recipe for death. I thought that combat abilities had a bigger arc but it seemed very difficult to hit 3 at a time. At best I could get maybe 2 at a time but less then 50% of the damage. Another big issue I had was with appearances of equipment being bland and being the same for 30-40 levels. I didn't really have any way to determine if this was improved of not. Looking on the broker I didn't really see much in the way of new items and there was no way to preview what an item looks like on you. However in yimir the first quest I finished gave me some pants that had a unique new graphic. I just wish they had appearance slots. Initially I had problems with the graphics. I set the settings pretty high and went right for directx 10. This seemed to have pretty bad freezes. It would move then stop for a second or two then move. This was especially bad in the broker. I dumped directx 10 and switched back to directx 9. This improved things. I still had a few hitchs but they weren't too bad and when I was in yimir I think I maybe had one or two the whole time. I think the hitchs are due to loading info on other players. I also still had the long delays I remeber from the broker long ago where You look at your inventory and it takes 5-10 seconds or more to fill in the items in your bag. I also noticed that this caused hitching in the rest of the world. When I was in directx 10 I also had a few hangs where I needed to actually kill AoC from windows. I'd say directx 10 is definitely still in beta. Zoning was also pretty slow. Starting the game I'd wait a minute or more for the initial zone to load. Later zoning was like 20-30 seconds or more. It felt quite a bit slower then eq2 and way slower then LoTR or Vanguard. I only played for 2-3 hours and did a few quests in yimir. I think the game has come a long ways. I'm definitely attacted to the game but I'm thinking I'm going to stay with LoTR. I think that LoTR is quite a bit more polished and feels more complete. Also the combat in LoTR feels more involved and less arcade like. I kinda like both styles but for grouping AoC combat feels more like something i'd expect in a solo oriented game. I'm going to sub to LoTR but will keep an eye on AoC and when the expansion comes out I'll take another look.

On the community , while I would never try and say that AoC's community is as helpful and friendly as LoTROs on the Wiccana server the global chat is much better than I remember it being. What is odd though is that I see a lot of LFG messages. Hasn't FC instigated any LFG features still? Since I have still not made it out of Tortage I have not felt the need to look for a group yet, just curious as I know that LFG utilities were on the wish list of players as far back as beta. |

As for the rest of the game yeah it needs a better LFG tool. I always liked DDO's style to LFG. It has worked for me better than any other game, in my opinion.

Global chat is as bad as good ol' "Barrens chat". I know many players just dont have global chat showing. I have it in a separate window, behind my main chat, and only focus it when I want some entertainment while waiting for a minigame.
The LFG-tool don't seem to be used much, so people end up advertising in chat channels with more viewers. A bit like trade channel in WoW. The intention is good, but the only ones using trade channel was those trying to sell something, not buyers...
When I'm looking for a grp to do instances, and none on my friends list are with it, I just hang out outside the instance and ask grpups that are about to enter if they got a spot open. As a healer thet often works. |

well he was refering to some sort of auto-matching feature, so you dont have to spam lfg. he didnt mean there was a lack of group activites. Tortage has some, but the bulk of the grouping activites came as you progress further. also, if youve noticed the option for a normal playfield or an epic playfield, try doing the bat demon on epic, or just questing on an epic....instant groupable fun on any map. there is a group search, and lfg search function, its one of those three buttons on the top left of the screen, you can tab over to groups seeking members and tab to search for members looking for groups. either way its very lacking, as you cant tell from searching what the groups or members are looking to do, as well as having to search in a huge list of all the areas if you want region specific. Often its much quicker and efficiant to just say class/level/desired dungeon or activity than to search and ask. not a game breaker for me because i tend to find groups easy enough, but it is really lacking and could be much better. hell i think anarchy had a better lfg function, at least it was easy to use. |

@crunchyblack That's why I said if it was like DDO's LFG/LFM system you would know the quest the group is working on and apply to be in the group. When you click join the leader of the group then gets a message of your class and level. He either accepts or rejects you. So if you applied that to AoC. You could go to the LFG/LFM window and see a group with say 4-5 members. It shows the group is on the quest "white hand officers" then below it is symbols to which class the leader of the group is looking for followed by comments the leader might add. For example they are looking for a healer type so it might show BS or PoM. It is the best LFG system I have ever used in my opinion. And if that was in AoC I could turn off global chat easily. .. .... .- - . - .-. --- .-.. .-.. ... .-- .... --- .-. . .--. --- .-. - .-.-.- |

yes but the really cool auto grouper you show is attached to a game i did not find entertaining. actually aoc's auto grouper looks more or less the same by function as lotro. in fact, it has all the same criteria and the tabs as well. guess more people like to use it in lotro.
